DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Here's for the day. Universal has been fun, but it's not Disney World.

Taking BIL out of the review is challenging, but I will say Universal's Simpsons ride was the best thus far. It has a great queue, special effects, but the humor in the ride itself just put it over the top. Transformers was awesome as well.

Overall, it just isn't comparable. We had to print out a ticket, print an express pass ticket, print a meal ticket, and that is just today. We'll have another set tomorrow. Can't post pictures from the "free wifi", but can if you upgrade. Have to pay for parking at hotel. It's the little things.

IOA is up tomorrow.

I never pictured Bart and Homer as being quite so tall.
I guess TV makes you look shorter.

Taking BIL out of the review is challenging,

:rolleyes1

Thanks guys. I tried to multiquote, but my phone isn't formatting correctly in Universal WiFi mode. I even offered to buy him a beer at the bar, just the two of us and my money to talk, and he refused. We get there early in AM, and he wants everyone to travel as a large group so that we can provide free childcare so he and his wife can go on rides. We went to eat after noon, and while we were all eating, he, SIL, and their infant son left the other children with us and FIL to go ride an easy ride with the baby. They didn't say anything, just got up and left.

I guess that was last straw for FIL. We finished lunch at Krusty Burger, rode the Simpson ride, and the he and his girlfriend went back to the resort. We were able to re-unite and return his other kids, and then the four of us went and did our thing. I don't look for this to get better before our trip ends, so I'll stop there and just #fugataboutit.

Sorry the trip isn't working out well. Finding out what the other place is like for the price of a bar tab isn't bad though and it looks like the girls are having fun. Hopefully your FIL learns something from this. Maybe your BIL and SIL's kids will learn how not to treat others by seeing your example and wont end up like

I wouldn't turn down a free trip to most places, but after seeing how Disney does it including the little things that make the trip special, I know where I would spend the money I have to work for.

Good morning all. Everyone still asleep while I get to post here.

One could argue the same about a certain other mouse we take pictures with?

Here we go USA! Good wins by Canada and Australia. France and Germany in the next round is going to be epic.

It was a good game. I was worried when Abby missed that PK, but after that red card and goal, it was all.USA.

Agreed on both points. And to the first one, FIL has continued his stance today. Yesterday, they even made his girlfriend watch the baby while they both went on a ride. So today, he said he's not getting up early to go to the park. Everyone is on their own schedule. The BIL came by the room by himself to get us to go with them all day, but DW immediately said no.

Good, you are talking to Cj about that guy he knows! :thumbsup2

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

'Morning all...
Been AWOL for a bit. Work is calming down so I might be able to check in a bit more often.

Either that or I can go out in the 100+ degree heat more often.
No... that doesn't sound like a better option.
I know... I could pay out some of our future vacation savings on some car repairs.
No... that doesn't sound like a good option either.

But I actually have to do that last one...

Dang...

...I think I feel a change in the wind, says I.

The old boy may have actually done himself in.

Sorry to hear about the car repairs. My boy talks about wanting to live in a big city where he never has to drive. When stuff like that happens it makes me think he might have something there.

Top O the Morning Dads! Norm - great to hear FIL & DW have responded the way they have, keeps you off the hook. Enjoy your day!

Going to be some good quarter-final matches.

Germany France is going to be fun to watch. Not sure the U.S. is going to get past China but if they do, playing Ger./Fra. winner is going to be a struggle.

Good for FIL and DW. I have a mooch BIL and when his mom died, he took a bunch of stuff that was supposed to go to DD. And of course, he knows everything about everything even though Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies would give him a run on cypherin. You have my sympathy. But, you are at Universal and they sell beer!

Not optimistic on the U.S. team. They have a great defense but even with Morgan back, the offense is struggling. With the exception of the first couple of minutes when Abbey scored but was offside, they had little going against a second string goalie. Then with the third stringer in and down one player, they only got one if you don't include the penalty kick. But they didn't beat us like they did France. I watched the analysts after the match and they were ragging on the coach.

France is a funny team. I was at the match they lost to Colombia and they didn't look that good. Although they did seem to play a bit on the cocky side and maybe they felt they could score whenever they wanted. The two matches since then, they have came out hard from the start.

I still think the US is the team to beat and I don't put much stock in some of the Fox analysts.

Thanks guys. One more thing I didn't know about yesterday. When we first get there, no one in parks, we are waiting for BIL & family. I assumed that the time was spent getting lanyards, changing baby, etc. It turns out that the first thing SIL did was take one of their children (age 9) into a gift shop to buy here new shorts because the ones she was wearing from the resort for the past 15 minutes didn't fit. Or, maybe it was because FIL was paying for trip so she is taking every advantage of shopping? So, it started there, escalated when they made FIL's girlfriend babysit, and then the final straw at lunch. The only time we ran into them today, SIL pretended not to hear my dd call her name. So, I just gave dd the truth.

Now, here's what 6 hours at Islands of Adventure does to an 11 year old. Maybe a minute into the bus ride home. And, this is a seasoned theme park traveler - at least once per year since 15 months old.

So, IOA was fun. Spiderman wins 2nd place better than Transformers at 3rd. The Simpsons still is the best ride for me. I enjoyed the butterbeer that Philip talks so highly about.

As a final review of Universal/IOA/ Cabana Bay Resort. I mentioned that it is the small things - like not having a curb which lowers a step out of bus - that makes WDW resorts that much nicer. Also, one cannot be too large to ride the rides at Universal/IOA. I did some quick reading on boards, at it seems 250 is max weight. Even then, the Dr Doom launch/drop really hurts the boys (if you get what I mean).

I'm glad I had the experience, even with outlaw snafu, especially as it was free. Tomorrow is Sea World and we are all driving separately.
