DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning Guys.

It's good to be home but I do miss the the heat that came with the sun in Florida. Today will be a day of soccer tryouts for DS and Costco for DW and I. Wish I was able to see some cherry blossoms or any blossoms for that matter.

Question for the cruising dads. We are on the Fantasy Eastern trip in August. We were assigned the late dining slot - 8:15pm. That is not a big deal for our family, but I've read a lot of people suggesting to get that changed to the earlier slot. Why? Like I said, my family usually eats late anyway, especially on vacation, so is there some other reason I'm missing?

I think that there are many reasons that some want first seating for dining. For those with small kids, it is often a matter of wanting to have the kids in bed earlier and don't want the kids eating then heading right for bed. Some just do not like to eat that late. I think that there are also some people who just believe that they will be missing out on something in the evening if they're not in the first group.

As for us, we actually prefer the late dining as it gives us more time to finish up whatever we are doing that day and get ready for the show for the evening and dinner. The only issue that we have is on Pirate night, by the time we get out of dinner the spots that we prefer to see the Pirate show from are already taken, but you can see the show from many areas of the deck.

Well, I hate to argue here, but I'm right. I do like a bologna sandwich on a rare occasion, but never fried bologna. First, have you ever personally fried bologna? That just may be the worst smell ever. Next, what is the name of your favorite restaurant or bar? Does it serve fried bologna?

More importantly, make a list of the top 10 food you would order in that or any other restaurant and be specific. Fried bologna ain't on that list. But, if you want to further test this, add a step. Don't just list steak, but go with your preference - filet, NY strip, sirloin, prime rib, etc. Same thing with seafood - lobster, crab, shrimp, scallop, turbot, Mahi, salmon, catfish, etc. Make that list for sandwiches - cheesesteak, lobster roll, Italian, rueben, po boy, roast beef au jus, Cuban, pulled pork, hot brown, club, chicken, etc. I can't even get fried bologna on my top 10 sandwich list.

I may accept the caveat that if one is drunk enough, and i really mean drunk enough, then fried bologna may appear to taste good. :lmao:

You left one thing out. If I could afford filet and lobster I wouldn't be eating bologna.
But make a list of dinner for under $1. Fried bologna is right up there with menudo and spam.
Lol

What? Buying meat out of the trunk of a car is frowned upon? :lmao:

Morning guys.

Made it safely back Saturday afternoon and yesterday, spent the day recharging. Just dropped off the Pirate Princess at the airport. She has a test tonight and is a bit worried about it. Seems she was a bit busy last week to spend enough time studying. Of course I was my usuall supporting self and told her to "Suck it up, Buttercup."

Hope everyone has a good day today, even though it is Monday.

Sad day today, leaving tomorrow morning. We really enjoyed the stay here but the time went too quickly. Promise some pictures when I get back.

I wonder, barring the haters, has anyone ever felt that a trip to WDW went too slowly. Comments?

Evening guys,

made itr as far as Rocky Mount NC today. The driving was pretty good except one construction delay that took about 2 hours to clear. Ironically it was pretty close to being in the same place we took 2 hours to clear an accident two years ago on this drive.

I believe you are a victim of a subtle, cleverly crafted conspiracy orchestrated by the Canadian Anti-destination League, a nefarious organisation dedicated to keeping Canadian vacation dollars safetly above the border and not in the hands of the godless southerners (ie, south of the border).

'Morning all...

Hi, My name is Mike. I'm a DCL addict and it has been 22 months since my last cruise.

It's been 45 months since I was last aboard one of their ships.
I'll be suffering a complete and total relapse next month though.

Had to drag the kid away kicking and screaming from the resort yesterday. Currently watching the sun rise over the Atlantic from my room. This was a great
trip with good friends, so life does not suck at the moment.

May life continue to not suck for as long as possible.

We've always done the late seating and saw no real down side; especially if you're accustomed to dinning late anyway. Just to be different we're trying the early seating this time around. I doubt there will be much difference, but I'll let you know if I notice anything.

Didn't make it to DC today, Jodi's a little under the weather. But we make the walk.

May she be doing much better by now.
Hope you enjoyed the walk and maybe you can get down to DC sometime during the week.
The crowd should be a bit better that way.

:rotfl2: We appear to have struck a nerve.

I'll make you a solemn promise that it wont show up on the table if I ever have the honor of inviting you to sit to dinner with my family.
Scouts Honor. :thumbsup2

But... I have actually made it at home, and two of my current favorite local restaurants actually do have it on the menu. Its just one of those things I was raised on. It also fits into a category that 'round these parts we called a "Destitution Meal" (simply put, we already skipped lunch and this may well be all one can afford for dinner). It often showed up on our dinner table when I was a kid, and being kids we didn't know we were "slumming it". Sometimes my momma would purposely not cut any expansion slits so when it cooked up in the skillet it would draw up and form a cup shape. Then she'd fill the cup up with either mac-n-chese or beans (depending on which we had in the house at the time). To a 7 or 8 year old young'en, that was just entirely too cool.

For us we take the early seating because our kids our used to eating dinner at 5:30 at home. Plus if we went to a late dinner it would be eating then putting them to sleep. There are advantages to both seatings but I think you'll be happy with the later seating.

Welcome Home CJ.... sounds like you all had an awesome time.

Nope.

Bravo! :worship:

Top O the Morning Dads! Randall - hope Jodi is feeling better. Welcome back to regular life David & CJ.

I wonder, barring the haters, has anyone ever felt that a trip to WDW went too slowly. Comments?

No, but there have been times I've done so much, enjoying it, that I sit back a think about it and realize that it's only been a couple of days, and that there is still so much to go, and I LOVE that feeling.

Good afternoon gentlemen.

Today is a good day; there is someone in more trouble than I am! A lady a few offices down the hall got a delivery of roses with balloons and a stuffed animal. I asked her if it was her anniversary or birthday and she said neither. :confused3 Had me confused. Why else would you spend that kind of money? Turns out it was as an apology from her husband. He must have really screwed up. Good to know there are others dumber than I am out there.

:rotfl2:

I seriously doubt if the Pirate Princess Pirate will let you or herself down. What she probably meant is the "A" will require a little more effort this time.

I would say that time between trips goes too slowly, but the truth is life goes by all to quickly at Disney or not. :hourglass

I'm good at hitting nerves or so I have been told.:duck:

I like it though I rarely fix it and don't think the kids have ever had it.

A long day. The bourbon is good.

Parenting at its finest.

I'm not sure I understand what you are even asking. I guess WDW time might be too slow if present during Brazillian tour group park capacity. Maybe?

We appear to have struck a nerve.

No nerve struck. But that smell sure strikes something else. And, I would even eat a fried bologna sandwich with you, preferably with a lot of beer.

it.

Wow, that must be a really big goof. I just bring home flowers and put them in the vase we already have at home.
