Did you pick up DVC while you were there? :lmao: I like TiW much better than any of the DPs as well.

DVC is not something I will even consider:confused3, I would much rather buy a Condo nearby and a used car, and be able to go whenever I feel like without having to make any kind of arrangements of where to stay, also since the prices of Condos and houses are still on the lower side, eventually it will go up again and be able to make a profit:scratchin

I spent 12 weeks there but outside of telling you it's hot as balls in August I can't say much else about it.

You were at Randolph Brooks? To be fair you were in the middle of 10sq miles of pavement and concrete, where it is a 3 day walk to shade. But 105 is hot until you get used to it.
Let me know if you TDY there again I will try to run down and we can do dinner or something.

Yeah, if I had an extra $100K, then I would buy some Florida real estate, especially a condo. Even if I just held it for 10+ years, it would be worth it.

Looks like congratulations and well done are due for several. Keep up the good work gents. Condolences for those suffering post-DIS blues, but it could be worse, you could have never gone.

I'm still on the green side of the sod so lots to be thankful for though if you want me to stay in character I could complain about getting switched to an HMO in our new open enrollment. Monthly costs are just going up a few bucks but the potential yearly out of pocket is jumping significantly:faint: with no out-of-network coverage now. It doesn't switch until July 1 so I still have 2 months to hit the lottery and not worry about it.

Time to call it a night and find the flashlights. We have some big weather heading in if it doesn't fall apart passing through the mountains.

I was there for basic training back in 2006 and my tech school was there right after basic. I do hope that one day I will get to go back to Lackland for a TDY for lodging. If that happens though it won't be till I get back from the sand box.

Good news on the knee - it's feeling much better. I can walk with little or no pain or limp. Going up stairs gives me a little issue, but not too bad. PT starts tomorrow, and I'm very hopeful for a good recovery sans-surgery.

Just blast the Rocky theme as you are going up the steps!

So any of you guys live or have lived in San Antonio, TX?

I have an Uncle who lives there. He says it's hot.

I've only been back from WDW now two weeks and I'm ready for another vacation. The weather is better now (except for these storms). I don't get it. I know work stinks, but it usually takes me a month or so of dreading to return to the office. I can't be going thru a mid-life crisis because that would involve too much effort. :lmao:

There in lies the issue. The crisis takes no effort on your part.

Good morning guys.

Traveling fact: your DW has three weeks notice of exact date of departure and now has only three days left before said date. She will NOT have any of her things packed and will present a long list of things that need to be done and a list of things purchased from store.

#ihatewaitingtothelastminute

Morning and continued prayers/thoughts over the storms.

Morning guys. 4 days until we head down to WDW... :cool1::cool1::cool1:

It will also be my last day of work at my current company. Took a new job. :thumbsup2

Best part of all that, the week I'm at WDW I'll be "between jobs" so no need to check the phone for emails or answer any work calls. :cool1::cool1:

Wow, congrats!

Less than eight days until we are on the road, ETD 0200 hrs, 6 May, 2014.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Listen to the doctors, don't rush it back. Less pain is a good thing though. :thumbsup2

Got back from WDW late last night:sad:

But I did have a few first's:confused3

- I flew on a plane:scared1: It had a few intense moments but all in all it was not bad:)

- We are now AP holders

- We are now TIW holders:woohoo:

So

45 DAYS TILL WDW:hyper:

:

Good to hear all went well with the flight, now you are set for quick impulsive trips :lmao:

When we hit the "year-to-go" mark we won't hesitate to grab things for a trip, we hate last minute scrambles.

Time to call it a night and find the flashlights. We have some big weather heading in if it doesn't fall apart passing through the mountains.

We made it thru safely again. Hope you did as well. I had to go drive and get oldest dd from dance class. It rained so hard that I couldn't see the road, but at least the vehicle is clean now.

I am a last minute packer as well - that whole effort thing - but I never have a list of stuff to buy. DW spends the week laying out and re-deciding on clothes, both dds clothes, supplies, shoes, shopping for stuff, etc. Then, the day of or night before, I get out my clothes, suitcases, pack everything and load them in the vehicle.

Your trip is way more significant. Continued prayers for all of you.

Morning Guys, happy Tuesday.

I played my first soccer game of the season last night and today my friend is a guy called Aleve. :goodvibes

Have a good one.

Charles Barkley said today that being forced to sell his team for a $billion dollars isn't much punishment. He was thinking a long suspension.
I was just thinking that same thing yesterday. Basically, now he's billionaire NBA owner. If they force him to sell his team, he's still going to get a fair market value for it, so he'll just be a billionaire with more cash. :confused3

As for suspension... suspension from what??? I don't think he really "does" much for the team anyway. He just shows up to games and collects the revenue the team generates.

I don't have the answers, but any kind of punishment they give him has to be something that hits him in the wallet. And even at that, unless it is equal to the GDP of some island nation, it still won't phase him much.

As long as he's the owner, he will feel it in his wallet. The corporate sponsors are dropping like crazy.

I think the NBA should buy it back from him at the original purchase price of $15 Million, add 1% interest annually for good measures, and give the remaining $900 Million to the Disdads to manage. I, logically, as manager of the dues, would also manage that money. :lmao:

It's a crazy situation, and the ability to punish him makes it even weirder. When you're talking about someone with that kind of money, a monetary punishment wouldn't phase him at all (see Mark Cuban). And it's almost impossible to legally take the team away from him. The best thing to do is suspend him indefinitely from games and league activity under the "best interest of the game" clause the commissioner has. They need to shame him out of the league basically. Wounding his pride is more effective than monetary fines/legal battles.

Morning all…
Hope everyone in the middle of the map is still safe and sound. Nasty stuff those storms.
They should get here today, but I don’t believe they’ll be near so powerful.

It’s the accumulative effect of going to Disney. Every trip you make to satisfy that craving, just makes you want another hit as soon as you can finagle it. I would say be strong, but I better think you should just give in to the siren’s call and go back now.

The Cheetah made it back to school and I made it home.

Back to school? She shouldn’t have many days left this year.
When are you headed up there to bring her back home, or is she planning some type of summer internship or adventure?

Let me know how things work out. I have fended off offers to be GM of multiple running teams and have retained my loyalty. If you are a has been, let me know. I'll follow the money and spit you out like a cup of Beverly.

:lmao: You’d make a good GM with that outlook.
Maybe you should consider the Marlins job.

DW is expressing interest in visiting/moving out that way. Personally, I've never been west of the Mississippi :rolleyes1 Guess I'm looking for thoughts on stuff like weather, what's to do, house prices and other general comments.

Hummm… Rather a specific choice for a sudden desire to relocate (unless a job offer was involved).
Anything in particular prompt her interest?
None my… but I’m curious.

Thank you guys. It is great news. It has been coming down from 13% I only have to be better than 5 people out of like 500 or something like that. I am hoping I will be clear of it before I go TDY to South Carolina in the end of May. I'm trying to convince DW to get me an Ipar Air and job security would help with that.

Again, good to hear. Where about’s in SC are they posting you?
I figure it’s Shaw, but Charleston would certainly offer more opportunities for off base enjoyment.

Got back from WDW late last night:sad:
…

So

45 DAYS TILL WDW:hyper:

I was going to offer condolences on the end of the trip, but with only a 45 day wait until returning…
However will your survive? :rotfl2:

As long as he's the owner, he will feel it in his wallet. The corporate sponsors are dropping like crazy.

True… for now…
As soon as they think the coast is clear, the corporate folks will be back.
Money follows money and cares not for humanity.

This is brilliant! It won’t happen, but it is brilliant. :rotfl:

I dunno, I gotta think going through life having to look at that face in the mirror is punishment enough. That is one jacked up looking dude. Thinking one too many pull and tucks.

DW vacationed there before we were married and really wants to go back. I told her it wasn't WDW. Not sure that helps much, but thought I would post it anyway.

Thanks for the info. I keep telling my DW that we should at least vacation there first before putting any thought into living there. :confused3 :lmao:

I can relate, Norm. Happened to me after my last trip. Time to book another one! :goodvibes

The Cheetah made it back to school and I made it home. Interesting flight. Took a little while to get on the plane and a more than a little while sitting on the tarmac in Miami waiting for a gate to open up. For all of you that have flown into or out of MIA, my apologies. Despite the billions spent improving the airport it is still one of the worst in the world.

Never made it to the Miami airport yet... but thanks for the heads-up! I thought La Guardia still held that rank! :lmao: Welcome back!

Generally the weather is hot. But I like it, the spring and fall can't be beat. And you never have to shovel snow again, ever.
San Antonio has Fiesta Texas (a six flags park) and sea world, you will only be about 90 min to Houston for baseball and football, Spurs will be your local basketball. And you have minor league hockey, we could become arch enemies. The SAN Antonio team is my locals rival.
Great food everywhere as long as you stay out of the tourist areas. Not sure if you are into it but you also have 5-6 great wineries less than an hours drive; the Shiner brewery is just down the road(with free samples daily). And Austin is a day trip away for all the music you ever wanted and then some.
I haven't priced houses in the San Antonio area but around here a nice neighborhood with good schools will run you $200k for a 3/2 @ 1800sq ft. I will loom up the market down there tomorrow and get back to you.
Let me know what you are looking for and I will let you know where to find it close by.
Having 2 Emma's this close together may be dangerous. That's my DD6 name too.

This info is very much appreciated. :thumbsup2 <= Is a thumb. DW likes it hot, so that's not an issue for her. I have heard that it's more of a dry heat over there. Whereas here in Va Beach it could be 90 degrees and feel like 110 with all the humidity here.
All this inquiry started due to my MIL. She is now living with us in the room over the garage and is having difficulty getting up and down the stairs due to a bad knee. So now DW is talking about a MIL suite. I recommended getting a stair lift and save a bunch of money. Zillow.com is now getting hit with a lot of searches by DW now. :sad2:
If we were to head west we'd be looking into at least a 4 bed/3bath house with some sort of ground floor MIL suite. Preliminary searches have shown the market to be pretty similar to what we have here. Jobs seems to be available for my line of work, too. IDK... guess we'll see.

I spent 12 weeks there but outside of telling you it's hot as balls in August I can't say much else about it.

So... just how hot is "hot as balls"? :rotfl2:

Got back from WDW late last night:sad:

But I did have a few first's:confused3

- I flew on a plane:scared1: It had a few intense moments but all in all it was not bad:)

- We are now AP holders

- We are now TIW holders:woohoo:

- We tried FP+ :confused3, I do not really like it, but it does have a plus side if you make your FP's that day, a good example, we did morning EMH at AK we walked on Safari, waited 10mins for EE got off did it again, then waited 5 mins for Dino. It seemed like there was a lot less people taking advantage of the EMH:confused3, then we left and went to MK did Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room & POTC before our 12pm Haircut at MS Barbershop, on the way we stopped at a FP Kiosk and used FP+ for the 1st time we got Space Mountain, Peter Pan & Big Thunder all for after 8 that night, after we got our haircut we went to Epcot, and retuned to MK after dinner at Ohanas stayed until we used the FP's and split, buses were crazy, they had Marching Bands, Dance Squads & Choirs so there were a ton of people on the bus so we tried to sneak out during the parade to beat the crowds, it didn't really work all that well since a lot of guests had the same idea:scared1:

I don't like the idea of making them way in advance since you don't know how the day will go and with some of The FP+ we made we ended up riding the ride before they were due since they had short lines

If I have something (like a AP) I'm the type that going to use it for all it's worth:scratchin::yes::

So

45 DAYS TILL WDW:hyper:

Congrats on your first plane ride! Sure gives you a lot more time on your vacation, doesn't it? Plan of flying on your next trip?

Those AP's are your wallet's worst nightmare

Thanks for the review for FP+. Not having experienced it yet I'm not sure how I feel about it. When I told DD that there are no more paper FPs she just looked at me with a blank, crazy stare. Her mind couldn't comprehend changing something like that at Disney World. :lmao:

45 days?? You suck. :lmao:

Looks like congratulations and well done are due for several. Keep up the good work gents. Condolences for those suffering post-DIS blues, but it could be worse, you could have never gone.

Sorry to hear about the healthcare insurance change. I'm still waiting for affordable care to materialize. :confused3

Hope you made it through the night safely!

I have an Uncle who lives there. He says it's hot.

I saw the weather for San Antonio yesterday... it was 99 degrees at 3pm. Heat index was 92 though :confused3 That's opposite of how heat indexes work here :rotfl2:

We made it thru safely again. Hope you did as well. I had to go drive and get oldest dd from dance class. It rained so hard that I couldn't see the road, but at least the vehicle is clean now.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Glad you are safe. We had our first set of thunderstorms roll through last night. Very thankful that were are not in the tornado belt... hurricanes are bad enough!
