Morning guys. Thank you to everyone who viewed our video, donated and shared. We hit the $1k mark yesterday which is 1/5th of the way to our goal of $5k. If you haven't shared please consider doing so. We are so grateful for all of you!

That’s a workable plan and pulls both I-77 and I-26 out of the equation.
On that front, I agree that hitting Charlotte during either the AM or PM rush will be frustrating but more so if you get there between 7 and 9 in the morning while traveling south. As for Columbia, it’s not really all that bad during either rush. Congested, yes… but bumper to bumper at a standstill, not normally. If you come through this area during any time other than the rush hours, you likely won’t have any troubles (unless a truck were to jack-knife and block the whole road but no one can ever predict that one).

Funny you should mention the truck thing. On our way home from WDW back in Oct we were on I81 in VA and a truck did just that during a rainstorm. Happened a few hundred yards in front of us. We wound up about three or four cars back from the pile up. We were just able to skirt around and drive on the grass on the right side to get around it. Thanks for the opine.

Sorry for my ignorance but is this like being forced to retire?

No, with retirement I would get a retirement check each month and get to keep all of my benefits (base access, tax free shopping on base, health care, free gym access) with this it’s almost more like getting laid off. All I get is a payoff and some temporary benefits. Another way to look at it would be if I chose to get out I would separate….. but I am not choosing it they are deciding it for me.

That stinks. Prayers and well wished that you are not chosen.

Can you look for other employment in the meantime and leave if you find something or is it something you need to wait on?

I could look but the issue with that is I might get to keep my job and the earliest I will be out is Jan 2015. The biggest issue is I will not find out my fate until September and I will be deployed when I do find out so I can’t look for anything out there.

Sorry to hear that. Are there any alternatives out there?

It is possible for me to enter the guard or reserve. It might not be likely and any chance of retirement would be a lot further away then it is now. As it stands now I could retire at the age of 37 if I can stay in. It’s one of those things I will have to look into when I know.

Sorry to hear this. Nothing is so frustrating as a situation over which you no say or control. Hopping for the best possible outcome.

Prayers for you :grouphug:

Hope it works out for ya

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope things work out for you.

Prayers for your situation. I seem to be doing a lot of that lately and will put you on the list.

Sorry to hear about this and hoping things turn around and go your way on this.

That sucks. Thoughts and prayers.

That sucks. Hope it turns out best for you.

Ah man, prayers it doesn't actually come to that and that it all works out in the end.

That stinks. I hope it works out for you.

Thank you all.

‘Morning all…
More rain, more work, more bla… :crazy2:
Good thing I can check in here from time to time.

It is difficult to beat a 12 man in the huddle offense. Given those terrible personal foul and inconsistent head butting calls, that may have been one of the worst officiated nfl playoff games I've seen.

True, there were additional forces impeding the process, but as a team the Cats also frittered away too many opportunities. They earned the loss and much as suffered it. I don’t know that the week off really did them any favors either; too much time to think. Carolina is much improved, but neither consistent nor near their potential.

Howdy! Long time no hear.
Hope all is well and that good things are going on in your world these days.

Morning Guys,

Coffee for you all!!
I’ll be having tea…
but it serves the same purpose and the sentiment is appreciated.
Cheers!

Well that just bites. I hope it changes for you and you can get it worked out or leave on your own terms.

Glad you didn’t get drawn up into the mayhem there. The drivers are so overworked as a group that truck crashes are a near daily event in most metro areas. Sad. The last time we went down to the world I got caught by such an even both on I-77 on the way down and on I-95 on the way back home. No amount of planning can correct for those types of delay.

Okay, time for some travel advice from the assembled wisdom of DisDaddom. We have our plans made for our annual Anniversary trip in May. We will be driving, again. The October trip last year went well but there will be differences. In Oct we left around noon on Friday and got to WDW saturday morning. For May, we will be leaving sometime on Tuesday, arriving Wednesday, so I am concerned with the traffic issues. Last time we went the rts 80, 33, 78, 81, 77, 26, 95, 4 path from NW NJ. My concern is places like Charlotte NC and Columbia SC. I'm thinking this time cutting across VA on 64 and 288, to pick up 95 south of Richmond and avoid nearly all the metro areas except Harrisburg and Jacksonville. Any thoughts?

I take 288 every day and you won't have any problems there. I'm on 64 less frequently but I never have problems there either and if it does slow down, it wouldn't be for long.

We almost always drive to WDW. The only slowdowns we experienced were in Jacksonville due to construction and Orlando- but that was just a bad timing - rush hour kind of thing. Plus if you take 95 you get to see Pedro at South of the Border. You're always a weiner at Pedro's!

!

True. Not having a healthy Steve Smith hurt. But, bigger factor was two trips in red zone with 3 points. Still, I hate to see officiating effect the outcome of a game.

::yes:: that’s a cardinal sin right there.
You do that… you loose.

Ok I'll admit, I had to look that up.

Nothing to have to “admit” to there. It just illustrates the obvious: you’re not a South’ner.

It is rather a regional reference and I forget that from time to time. Now that you know what the wretched stuff is, you’ll likely notice a lot of it the next time you drive down this way.

Driving my FIL back last April was my only time driving. I would like to do it again though and take some time to see the sites. Doing about 1900 miles in 3 days didn't leave a lot of time to check things out.
