...I still prefer old fashioned books
::yes:: SWMBO, the kids and I don't talk about numbers of books but weight of books. Last estimate on SWMBO's cookbooks was about 200 lbs.

Happy Belated Birthday to Amelia!

Morning guys!

Trying to post more in here, been slacking on all the boards the last few months. Just too busy at work and at home. Another busy day at work, then go home to continue the fast paced running from place to place trying to get it all done.

Welcome back!

Morning everyone. Day off today. Would appriciate a few prayers going Dad's way, off to the Hospital to see if he might have pneumonia, been feeling unwell. The new chemo they put him on makes him feel like beverly too.

Typical Dad though, annoyed that this might prevent him from his weekly coffee session with his fellow retired firefighters.

Prayers for your Dad and the medical staff that they get him well.

... School here still teaches printing and grades for it...

I am teaching my kids to write in cursive with fountain pens.

...
Dial up... man I miss that sound. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: We've come so far from the days where you click a page, go to the kitchen and get a snack, come back and still wait a couple of minutes for it to finish loading. :rotfl2:

And forget dial up... I still remember when we first got computers in school. I was in second grade, and Oregon Trail was the greatest thing ever invented.

Move to KY. I still have dial-up. My school offered their first computer class spring semester of my senior year and it used cassette tapes.

Definitely will be thinking of your dad. Prayers

Good morning everyone. I have to say it is pretty crazy because my 7 month old will never know a life with out tablets/smart phones. When I can remember a life with dial up and cassettes. The tablets are in schools now..... I mean aircrew on my base were issued iPads it's just crazy how technology takes over.

I think you forgot to add, "hey you kids get off my lawn!" :thumbsup2

Matt

I hear that.

Long 24 hours, but finally getting ready to head home. Stopping by the Hartford Armory to get a tour of the facilities for our Scout District First Aid Meet in a month. Hope the space is good. Supposed to be. But don't have a good plan B in Hartford and would really like to keep it in Hartford so the city kids can go. Tired of having it in the suburbs year after year and having no city kids come. Then hoping to take a nap before my kids get home from school... Goodnight!

‘Morning all…
Finally, finally, finally, the painting is done! Every blessed ceiling, wall, cabinet, and every last inch of molding in the new “old” house has been patched, spackled and rid of the wretched colors that came with the place. I can finally breathe. Half the light fixtures and now replaced as well and the most of the rest are on order. Now all we got to do is start putting the rooms together and then start empting out the storage locker. But at least now we can make some headway on this move in process.
:woohoo:

Only dad gets the good stuff! ;)

Sorry… can’t second that one.
That’s more of as aspiration then a potential law. :rotfl:
At least in my house, it’s the opposite of what happens. My first job is to ensure that everyone else get the “good stuff” (whatever that might be at the time). I always make do with whatever is left over. That’s just what you do. Every once in a while DW will even ask me: “so when do you get what you want?” The truth to that is once you become a husband and certainly after becoming a father…
you don’t.

And I’m good with that.

Pups…
Try life where internet does not exist, telephones are rotary (one per house as well) and “party lines” are common, Cable-TV does not exist (and most sets are refrigerator sized and still black & white), tape is reel-to-reel and computers take up whole buildings, are only in the possession of the largest governments and companies and are so expensive that the hardware is not owned but rather leased from the likes of IBM, Burroughs or NCR.

Talk about change...

Life does that. Just keep checking in when you can.
You’ll always be a DisDad in good standing ‘round here. :thumbsup2

I missed this in my severe lack of posting. Barry, I am going to be on the Magic with DD December 22, 2013. I fully intend to con my way into the kids club so I too can be a Marvel Avenger. Bottom line - I am 5'8" so I should be able to pull off the kid thing. If not, I'm taking over the ship.

pirate:pirate:

Evening guys...when I popped on this evening couldn't believe I was that far behindin days/pages. Way too busy for my own good.

Work has been a Beverly. Head Office has chosen now as we get into the busy season to do minor renovations to the warehouse so it;s been a mad scramble to empty it, in particular I need my beer storage area empty. Told after ordering a boatload of stuff. Very tempted to call in the DisDad "Extraction Team" although knowing the idiots at Head Office they'd want it returned afterwards. :rotfl2: For some reason our management has no plan in place so it's chaos. I do not thrive in chaos so have came up with my own gameplan.

Just gotta tell myself by the end of next week it shouldbe back to normal.

Was out late tonight, went out for dinner for Amelia's Bday today can't believe she's 9!

Happy Birthday to Amelia!

Unfortunately after the extraction team is finished, you will only have empty bottle to return to the warehouse. Hope it gets better.

A time also, when the good 'ol USA was very active in Space Exploration!

Yup. School here still teaches printing and grades for it. Soon, it will all be digital - until the zombie apocalypse.

Yeah the zombie apocalypse is coming I need to talk my wife into letting me get a crossbow for it.

Yeah thats true. Computers were in school when I went through. Just not as common. We had computer lab time in middle school.

I think you forgot to add, "hey you kids get off my lawn!" :thumbsup2

I'm trying not to be come the old man I feel like I am becoming. Partying has lost all appeal since my son was born. I mean I am only 25..... but yeah.....I feel like that old man sometimes.

You ain’t old (not even close)… you’re just now a dad.
Quite the responsibility and everyone here understands exactly what you’re talking about.

The old man comment was more about the fact that my ankles shout at me. My wrists hurt for no reason. My back will randomly just start to hurt.... I blame Landon.

:lmao:

And you’re right.
Young’ens combined with the constant effect of gravity will wreck your body every time.

I often tell folks that I don’t miss my youth one bit, but I’d surly like to have joints back.

Just trying to catch up…
Going to brag a bit about DS#1. For context, there's a dad I know through scouting who's son was diagnosed with a fairly aggressive neck and chest sarcoma about a year ago. I've gotten to know them well in the hospital and have done 4 merit badges with him during his hospitalization. All my kids play Minecraft with him on-line (for a long time he couldn't speak because of the location of the tumor, so texting online was much easier). Anyway, yesterday was a very bad day for this boy. He was starting a very hard round of chemo that would make him pretty sick. So he was getting admitted yesterday and was pretty upset. He asked if DS#1 would mind coming to visit him. So even though it was a school night, DS#1 agreed to go. He couldn't have been more awesome. Completely unphased about the chemo starting, the IVs, monitors, etc. They just hung out and talked and played Minecraft for a couple of hours while the mom and I went for coffee and ice cream. Very proud of the young man he's becoming. And on the way home got to teach him about Catholicy things like corporeal works of mercy too (which apparently they don't teach anymore in CCD? Who knew!). Definitely count your blessings today, guys!
Well done Jack! (and you too Doc;) )

I see I also missed a couple of birthdays…
:bday: a belated HBD to Tim
Thanks Rob.

And also to my nemeses. Congrats sir, you're officially older.
And I spared no expense in acquiring you a fitting cake for the celebration.
Enjoy!

Redneck_Birthday_Cake.jpg
That's not a bad cake… too bad all those cans are empty.

Thanks... It ain't Old Style, so it works for me.
OK… what is Old Style? Isn't that what they serve at Wrigley?

Pretty sure I would be doing the same thing. If we ever got AP's it would cost me a fortune in air fare since I'm sure I would use just about any excuse to get there. Good luck!
Might have to start flying from Bradley.. Southwest has some really good fares. Also Jetblue flies from Bradley, but they are a little more expensive than Southwest.

Total hip replacement Thursday.

You bringing the penguins?

If I don't get to tell you before tomorrow, Good Luck Randall! We are all counting on you!!! :rotfl:

Sounds fun. Is your imaginary friend an Eagles fan too? Or, does he have some common sense? :crazy2:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I somehow managed to move up to second to last. I'm sure next year's #2 pick will pull me right back up to contention.
I wonder who is in last? That person must really suck. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Either great minds think alike....

OR we are both to cheap for iPads for the little brats!
I ended up with a Nexus when we changed phone service. We put it away and are giving it to the kids for Christmas.

You should see my 2 year old on the iPad it is amazing. He has been using it since he was one. He can look at pictures, play games, watch shows, controls the Disneyland app, all by himself. It is sick.

Or sitting in chatrooms on AOL waiting for someone to respond to you…

And forget dial up... I still remember when we first got computers in school. I was in second grade, and Oregon Trail was the greatest thing ever invented.
Loved that game… also played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.

Ah dial up...I had to call long distance to my first ISP. :scared:
Oh boy… did your parents kill you?

Stupid dysentery.

We've been home from Disney for 2 weeks and Christopher is just starting to get back to his normal routine. When we got home he fought us about sleeping in his bed. (he was still in his crib) I put him down for a nap and the little stinker climbed out. So I ended up taking the front of the crib off to turn it into a daybed and put a bed rail on it. He has stopped taking naps and has been fighting us every night at bed time. For a week straight he has been waking up numerous times at night screaming bloody murder. The last 3 nights he still fought a bit about going to bed but has slept through the night.

He keeps telling me to go drive with him to the 'red room'- his talk for hotel room. He misses Disney and I don't blame him.

The old man comment was more about the fact that my ankles shout at me. My wrists hurt for no reason. My back will randomly just start to hurt.... I blame Landon.
It just keeps getting worse. I just turned 32 and still play basketball twice each week all winter, but when I was 26, I tore my Achilles. If I had a nickel for every person who told me I was too old to play basketball... including my surgeon. It's like, come on, I'm only 26. :confused3 :guilty: :sad2:

OK… what is Old Style?
You should really try it.

Isn't that what they serve at Wrigley?
::yes:: And to let you know how extremely high quality it is, it is also the beer that one of my favorite bars in college served, 32 ounces for a dime after a $5 cover.

If I never taste it again, it will be too soon. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

.
I didn't have internet till college but I had a stack of those 1month free AOL disks.
Greatest game was mech-warrior, came on 15 - 5" floppies', and you had to change the disk every time you changed planets because no computer had a hard disk big enough to hold the whole game.
And no one got dysentery.

:confused3

Stupid dysentery.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw Oregon Trail:rotfl:

I agree with that.

I do remember those days. I grew up in a small town so modern technology evaded us. We had the console TV that got 2 1/2 channels unless you were actually holding the fine tune knob so you could get CBS. we had the rotary phone that was heavy enough to knock out a bear with, on the party line of course. We didn't have reel-to-reel but our home stereo was AM with on 8-track
And there were still punch card computers at the high school.
