Hello dads. Belt testing Saturday for me and DD. wish us luck please. Hope everyone is well. Prayers for good things to those who need it.

Donate it. We got a pretty sweet tax deduction. I think they changed the rules since then so you may want to talk to your tax guy first.
The rules changed substantially. Now, you can only deduct what the vehicle ultimately sells for. So if the vehicle's only good for scrap, you only get to deduct the scrap value. And it takes longer to get an amount certain for the deduction (you have to wait until the sale/auction or decision to scrap it and sale).

Bad news Tuesday ownage.

When the timing belt broke and busted the water pump, the engine over heated and blew the head gasket. That is another $1300 on top of the $450 for the water pump. I told him I'd think about it. I'm not worried about an upsale, as this is not his usual business practice, but the car is only worth about $2700. Do I fix it and hope to get another 5 years our of it? Or, try to sell it as is?

Tough call. If you donate it, maybe a charity has someone who can fix it cheap and then someone in need could use it.

Good morning. Happy Ash Wednesday for those of you observe. Heading to the early Mass today for ashes, then on to a doctors appointment. DW and I have a call with t he agency we want to sign with so hopefully that goes well :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, yes.

Was thinking about the deduction. I'm considering it. It depends on what I could sell it or junk it for.

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Being the pump and belt are already fixed you might be able to sell it to a kid in high school. Probably get more that scrap price for it. Some of them (i know there are getting to be fewer and fewer of them) like to work on cars and this may be a good project for them.

Morning all

Thanks. I'm thinking time to sell as well. It is also a third vehicle and we did just fine with two for years. It was convenient to have the third vehicle when one broke down, but not $1300 worth convenient.

$1300 would be better spent on vacations and such.:rolleyes1

Morning all...

Morning guys and Happy Ash Wednesday.

In the office :coffee: rather than on the beach in Florida :beach: today. Unexpected car expenses and all have changed our plans for the next few days but it could have been worse.

Agree with the time to sell it! When I bought our last van we had a similar situation. Car was worth about $3K and repairs were 1500-1800. Found someone that collects Grand Caravans that paid $2K for it.:confused3 I know, who collects caravans. Anyway, we ended up much better off.

Even if you fix it now, I think there is a pretty good chance you'll need to put more into before that 5 year point. An easier decision since it is a third car.

Hey Jim!

We had the same conditions this morning, but luckily it warmed up and melted most of the ice and some snow today. Ready for it all to be gone.

We still on for a lunch sometime this month?

Absolutely! Let me know your schedule. I'll come up there. I am pretty slow this week and off work with school vacation next week. Still trying to figure out if we are going anywhere so I am pretty flexible right now. Let me know what works best for you.

Good luck to you both! I hope everything goes well.

We are heading to mass tonight after work. Happy Ash Wednesday to you and the other dads.

I can't take credit for this (a friend of mine from FB posted it) but found it pretty funny:

The Vatican says that the Cardinals will pick the next Pope. If it's anything like how they pick QB's this will certainly be a disaster....

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: now that's funny right there.

Well now that depends. Is it the NFL or MLB?

That stinks Norm. Keeping it depends on what condition the car is in and how much trouble you can 'see' down the road.

Good luck. I hate those decisions. :headache:

John, I'd love to see what you have. We typically do a smaller graphic for the front pocket - and I try to whip up something for the backs of the shirts, incorporating the smaller graphics in it.

Thanks for the help! :thumbsup2

Sorry for the delay. I will check to ensure I still have the images on my computer at home this evening.

Who's got two thumbs and just was asked to attend a "convention" in Orlando in May?!?

THIS GUY!

:cool1:

Woo Hoo!
