DIS Dads DDC XXVI: They all went to the DDCC and all we got was this Lousy Thread!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Okay Disney Dads, where's the best place for good Dad chow in Magic Kingdom. I booked my family for Liberty Tree, as I recall it being good comfort food. I'm open to better options, especially if they are quick service. This used to be a double win when it was a character meal in addition to some home-style food.

Mark

Thanks, I just got on yesterday. I'm kind of looking for the Flametree BBQ or SciFi equivalent in MK for QS. We did CRT a few times, but I enjoyed it more than my kids... DD10 is a tomboy, and DS6 isn't a big fan of Cinderella. We end up at Crystal Palace every time lately, and I need a change! I think you are spot on with BOG, unfortunately the dinners are booked. Looks like it's a QS for lunch, so we will have to put it on our list.

Welcome, Mark. I think the restaurant for which you're looking in MK is probably Cosmic Ray's. It has the BBQ plate similar to what they have at FlameTree, although I don't think it quite measures up. At the very least, it is a lot of BBQ meat. They also have burgers and some other sandwiches.

I like Columbia Harbor House better, because it has stuff that isn't in a lot of other QS restaurants, like salmon, a good tuna sandwich, clam chowder, an unfortunately-not-CT-style lobster roll... mostly seafood themed, and more hits than misses.

Thanks for keeping up with the thread even while you are on vacation Randall! All things considered, I'd rather be with you guys at the DDCC. Have a great time!

In the words of Fed... "Har Dee Har Har" :rotfl:
Glad I could help! :thumbsup2

Looks like everyone else has your question covered... Hello to a fellow Nutmeger!

Packing right now and I can't find the Damn battery charger for the camera. The kid has her camera but would rather use mine. May have to stop at Best Buy to get a replacement.
There's always something missing...

We're finishing up packing here too. We're 12 hours away from there now.
Clothes are packed.. I'll pack the carryon tomorrow. DW decided she is DLing a book to her ipad for the plane... Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm bring the macbook. I really don't want to because I'll be stuck carrying it around Epcot all day Friday if our room isn't ready. :headache:

We are heading to the expo as soon as we land. We've always been on Friday afternoon and by then it's usually packed. Hopefully it'll be less crowded on Thursday morning.
Man, I hope it isn't a zoo Friday but I'm sure it will be. :headache::headache:

Florida Gator here but I will answer your question anyway. We did the tour years ago but from what I understand it hasn't changed much. No behind the scenes stuff. They take you on a scavenger hunt to foil a Disney villain (ours was Hook). They take you through the MK and you and the kids do silly things. As an example, we "snuck" up to Pirates and yelled, "Captain Hook is a Dirty Bird" and then all ran away. At the end we met up with Pan and he took us on his ride.

Fun tour. A lot of walking in the sun though. The kids need to want to be a little silly. They encourage parents to do the same but will not beat you if you don't.

Thanks for the insight! It sounds like it could be fun, just wanted to make sure it is worth the $34 per head to do it. Kids are on the silly side anyway. Wife wanted to know if you "even get on a ride for that much money":duck:. We have been big fans of the Pirates and Princess, and Mickeys NSS Halloween Parties, so I think she is expecting a lot for the extra $$.

It does make keeping up easier when you're running in circles all day.

I've been working on something similar with my kids. I'm not a big organized religion guy but I try teaching the kids a lot of the basic tenants like being honest, love thy neighbor, and but in your best effort.

Welcome. Die hard Vikings fan here. Yes I like pain and misery.

You get used to it.

There you are nemie. And blathering about the Vikings no less. Woot. Hope your holidays were good. Bye nemie

Good morning guys :)

Really looking forward to following everything at the DDC through Tumblr. Make sure you take lots of pics!

Morning David! That's assuming we can figure out how to use tumblr...

Waiting to board! Meeting Scott at ME then headed to MK to meet up with Carl and (hopefully) Paul, Randall, Barry, Ian, Mark, and others

Thanks for the good advice guys, I think we'll just shoot for BoG QS at MK this year.

It seems like this crew is heavy on the Disney experience,so I'm hoping one of you have done Disney's Family Magic Tour at MK. We've been to WDW enough times that I'd like something a little different, but not the "see man behind the curtain" stuff. If anyone has tried it, I'd love to get your take on the value of it.

Also, are there many NFL junkies in this crowd? I'm a UT Volunteers fan, so I have abandoned college sports until further notice...

Welcome! I'll echo CJs comment. This was a great way to spend a morning. Especially if you're looking for something different.

Good morning fellow dads, hope all is well, I can't believe even though it raining that its suppose to be in the 60s and 70s the rest of the week, yay global warming :)

Man, I have a LOT of catching up to do...

Enjoy your trips for all the dads at the DDC...

I will hod down the fort at work while you are all there.

That makes me a Lawyer, Doctor, Accountant, IT specialist, and many other professions...

I need a raise!

Running about a half an hour late but we will soon be out of here. I will try to post some pics here during the week. Have fun guys, wish you were all going to Orlando with us.

I guess I need to figure out how to find this tumblr page thingy so I can see what's going on.

I have to admit, I've never heard of this tour before. But it sounds cool!:thumbsup2

I don't think I've mentioned it yet, but while I wasn't able to swing the DDCC, I am attending another conference this weekend in Nashville, TN at the Opryland hotel. This is one won't cost me anything, which is why I'll be going there. :thumbsup2 The conference is for a non-profit Ag organization that I work with, and I have the option to go every year, but this is the first one I've ever attended.

Anyway, I was looking at their website yesterday and they listed out the conference dates and locations for the next 5 years or so. This same weekend in 2016 will be Orlando, FL. Might I actually be able to essentially get my family to a future DDCC for very little out of pocket expense??? :scratchin

::yes::

Was it a Rogers thing everywhere?

I couldn't even get through to Rogers support number...

Closest DW could get was one that mentioned technical difficulties...

Wonder if work went down too? That'd be hilarious.
