Winter solstice today and we have snow on the ground. It is now Winter no matter how you define it.

Astronomical winter runs from winter solstice, usually Dec. 21 or 22, into March.

Solar winter, the N. Hemisphere's darkest quarter, extends from Nov. through Jan. This is when the least solar energy enters the N. Hemisphere, with more than 50% being covered in darkness at any given time.

Meteorological winter spans Dec. - Feb., which are typically the coldest 3 calendar months for much of the N. Hemisphere.

We take the Auto Train out of VA, done it 6 times round trip now, Nothing like getting off the train rested up and only have to drive 39miles to WDW:thumbsup2

I get a lump sum of time off every Jan 1st for the year, This is another thing that I like about the Union, I get

4 weeks vacation
7 sick days
4 personal days

A few years ago we had some time takin from us during contract renewal, I lost almost 2 weeks worth of time off:sad2: lost 1week Vacation, 3 sick days and 1 personal, I lost more time then some jobs give for the year:rolleyes2

Do you rent the beds on the train? We were trying to decide. The friends we would travel with said sometimes they do and other times they sleep in the car. I'm thinking any sleep we get would most likely not happen in the car. Let's here it for new experiences. We have never driven down before.

That stinks they took vacation time away.:sad2: 9 days of paid time off is a lot to lose. I guess there is always something that has to ebb and flow in union negotiations. At least you get 4 weeks. Some companies around here max out at 3.

The benefits of working for a small company is I get 5 weeks of vacation per year. Can carry 4 weeks as a balance and there are no sick or personal days limits. As long as it is not abused the time off for sickness, doctor visits, kids illness are all paid days. They treat us pretty well. The pay is a little lower than I can make elsewhere, but I make my own hours, can work from home if needed and can get home to the family early allowing me to coach sports and spend more time with the kids.:thumbsup2

Nice one. We just sold ours.

we're checking out the market to see what is available. :rotfl2:

Where's the snow? the ice? the penguins? Come on your pulling my leg. That's not in canada. A canadian castle is made from ice.:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Well, it is December 21. I'd ask if this is heaven, but I'm sitting at my desk at work so I already know the answer to that one.

Did the world End?

It must've in Kansas City, as my login at the other site says "ACCOUNT SUSPENDED" :scared1:

Anyone else able to get in over there?
No, glad I'm not the only one!

:We get 26 holidays a year, 12 sick days, and vacation days based on seniority. I think I am at 15 days a year. We don't get OT and have to flex off the time.

26 holidays? I didn't know there were 26 holidays on the calendar. Must be moonshine day, wear a shirt day and eat a pig day in there somewhere? Daisy Dukes birthday and rodeo day? :rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Unfortunately we only get 10 holidays.

I couldn't get in ether.

Well I guess I'm ready for tomm, DD has her daycare Christmas party so we went and bought Christmas cookies( already done the debate so yes I can bake cookies but daycare prefers store bought and sealed cookies) I wrapped her book for the book exchange and I got her teacher (not the previously talked about teacher, this ones hot too but married) got her a gift certificate and a card that DD picked out, so should be good to go.

Also is it wrong to use a gift card that my supervisor gave me for one of DDs birthday presents? I never go to bass pro shop but DD has been wanting a fishing pole so she can fish with me so today I ordered her fishing pole kit with the GC and only paid 1.60 out of pocket

We have to make sure not to use tree nuts or alcohol in any recipes. Other than that, they have never said anything about not making them at home.

Shop away. Not wrong to use the gift card for DD. Sounds like the boss gave you fishing time with your DD. Sounds like a good present to me.:thumbsup2

:rotfl2::rotfl2: I might have to pull over if I ever saw this to avoid crashing the car.

No snow here. Would rather be in FL.

You're not off yet?

Unfortunately we only get 10 holidays.

We get 12 holidays during Christmas, 5 during Spring Break, 2 for Fall Break, and then all the other Federal Holidays. That may be closer to only 22 holidays. Still sick and can't add. I'll submit a request for Daisy Duke day, with a picture of Jessica Simpson from the movie.

Hey guys...school is on Christmas break now. I went to Laurens class and served Christmas lunch to them...man it smelled so good..the parents in her class are good cooks. I was afraid to eat anything because I had just left the dentist office and unexpectedly had to have two fillins on the left and I looked like I had Bell's Palsy in my face :rotfl2: I tried to take a drink of something and I was not able to feel the cup against my face...it was not pretty :rotfl:...I could tell that some of the other parents were looking at me wondering what had happened since they had last seen me :rotfl: Luckily most of the feeling has come back this evening , but ....next week I have to have 3 more on the right side!!!

Tomorrow is Christmas Miracle number 1's Birthday...Hard to believe he will be 8. I will never forget when he was born and all the emotions of adoption coming to a peake! We were able to leave the hospital with him on Christmas Eve. The best gift we ever received that year!! Stuck in a Residance Inn until Mid January before we could cross state lines and come home. Oh the memories....Id go to the local TGarget every night and collect buggies that people had not put back and get the quarter out of them (we dont have to rent buggies here LOL)..Id use the quarters to do laundry each day...LOL

Good luck with the cavities. I hate when you can't feel your mouth due to the medication. Usually end up sore for a while when it wears off.

Happy Birthday to Ethan. I hope when he gets older that he realizes just how lucky he is to have great parents like you guys. Enjoy Christmas, they grow up so fast.

There is no ice in Mass?

:confused3:confused3

No fish-filled lake nearby. We have a place in Maine on a big lake, so that's where we do all our ice fishing.

No Ice in MA right now.:scratchin

We have a few places in our area, but with the weather there is no ice. Last year I don't think any of the ponds/lakes were completely frozen so no fishing last year. We used to fish on Lake Winnepesaki(sp?) in NH when we were kids, but haven't done that in years.

Just in case the Mayans had the time wrong, here are some of Mark Sanchez's career highlights.

‘Morning all…

And welcome to the Apoca-Whoops!

We should do a roll call to make sure everyone is still here. :rotfl2:

Here!

End of the world gives me a reason to drink all the good scotch! :thumbsup2

A strategic error, I do believe.
It’s going to be a might expensive to replace the entire stash

Oh man, is work getting busy...

So what you are saying is there a lot of drunks in the GTA. ;)

It’s more a symptom of the season. We’re all drinking heavily to get through these last few days of commercial oppression.

Look for my car. It's the one with wheels on it. Norm you can watch for it too. It has windows.
Don't tell my nemie, he'll just have to google what wheels are

:lmao:

Unfortunately we only get 10 holidays.

Moonshine day and Eat a Pig Day are just alternate names for Every Day.
Wear a Shirt Day is optional and directly related to ones education level.
If there were a “Rodeo Day”, it would be a western/plains phenomenon, not a South’rn one.

As for Daisy Dukes Birthday…
I’ve seen some of the images y’all post here and especially on the other board.
I dare you to deny that you ain’t already celebrating that one yourself.

You forgot bathe day

That’s every day and twice a day or more if you’ve been doing any heavy work.
We’d never dream of goin’ around in public in such a state.
Assigning a specific day for getting clean must be a Northern thing.

Well, it is December 21. I'd ask if this is heaven, but I'm sitting at my desk at work so I already know the answer to that one.

I’m not working today.
Just keep that in mind as your sitting there the rest of the day
:rolleyes1:
