DIS Dads DDC XXIX: We’re Over 750 Dads, With A Disney Problem!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Probably not until after the first of the year :worried:
Some friends just got their girl in China this week and it made me think of you. There journey has been longer than yours I think but the smile on their faces in the blog assured me that it's all worth it.

On another note, our Ukranian visitor comes back to the states on Friday. That should be interesting.
Hmmm... you have a good idea there, Norm! Sort-of like letting the girls hang out in the living room while the dads are smoking cigars the den?

In all seriousness, I think she'd be hanging out in the living room alone. This is the only girl that's asked to join in all the years I've been hanging out here. If this current applicant were to "join" I think she'd realize this place is like Vegas. Nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there.

I've been waiting for this to happen...

This is from the Welcome to the DISDads sticky.

So, what say you?

Ladies are welcome to read and post, since there is no policing or restricting of that sort here on the DIS. The only thing that would be missing is an assigned DisDad number, right?

I like the idea of a separate thread for the ladies within the confines. 'Coed Thread ' or something. Maybe we could take suggestions for a name of the thread.

And smell nicer too.

Are you in favor of a DisMom's thread or are you just floating the idea out there?

I just don't know how much fun they'd have here. Do women really like bacon, bourbon, and flatulating as much as we do? Seriously- someone answer that cuz after all these years my wife is still a vegetarian who won't drink and says, "Ewww, you're gross".

I thought that was a done deal and she didn't want to stay in the US? Did I miss something? Is she staying with you? Sorry if I'm bringing up a painful subject. If so, please feel free to ignore me.

Am I missing something...did someone pretending to be a Dad come in?

You go away for a few weeks....:lmao:

Conclusion: Do you think we could add a DisMom's thread to our sub-forum over here? Maybe not just make it a DisMom exclusive thread, but maybe a DisDad and DisMom - No Hateful Need Apply thread, where CaollinsMom and others could have some fun, and we could still keep our club house as well.

Not a bad idea. Other moms pop over here once in a while to ask questions from a dad perspective.

Is she staying with you guys?

Not a painful subject at all. I was glad she turned us down. My biggest regret is that it took away my reason for studying Russian. If that was the biggest bummer out of that whole ordeal, then I'm doing ok!

Is she staying with you guys?

This time she's going to Minnesota with a family who already has 7 kids (at least one adopted). Their adopted daughter is from the same orphange that our girl was from. The girls were friends at one point but our girl didn't want to Skype with her last year. She was mad that her friend had left her and went to a family (a common sentiment among those left at the orphanage). The Minnesota family is hosting our girl plus another with the intention of adopting both. It will be very interesting to see how that plays out. I don't think our girl is aware of the MN family's goal. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she finds out.

That stinks that you have to wait so long, but worth it in the end. Well continued prayers for everything to go smooth and as planned. Those are some lucky kids!:thumbsup2

Thank you

But you can still use it to point out grammatical errors in Cold War films. So there's that.

Wow, this sounds like a soap opera. Maybe it was a blessing that things didn't go the way you thought they would.

No contact. Her birthday was Monday and we sent a card to her new host family in Minnesota. I think my daughter or wife may have sent her something but we haven't gotten anything in return. I don't know if I mentioned it back then but she was pretty hostile towards me. My proudest moment was when I overheard her say to one of the Ukranian chaperones, "Я не люблю своего отца." Which is Russian for, "I don't like the father". Sure it was a bit of a gut punch at the time, but dude- I EAVESDROPPED IN RUSSIAN! How cool is that? Rosetta Stone works.

It would make for good reality TV. I remember all the trouble she put you guys through.

Eavesdropping in Russian? You're like James Bond.

I'm sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you have some career choices opening up in being a spy!

In fours hours, you can be quite successful in being intoxicated.

Did your neighbors ask you what was wrong? Might have been a good way to play up and injury or illness for neighborly gifts of food sympathy.
.

Yes I can get my drink on, especially since there is Dobble Bock beer. Dark and high Alcohol content.

Neighbors never asked. Very weird but hey whatever. I would mess with people a lot and bring it to parties or events.

My neighbors know everything. If someone stops by for a visit and they are not a regular, I'll get a question about it. It's not a nieighborhood watch, just a nosy neighbor watch program.

Some days I manage to put two or three thoughts together into a valid and coherent argument...:rotfl2:

That can be complicated for me. I try to just live with some simple logic - if you find your hands are bleeding, you might not have a twist off cap.

If there is a DIS Mom's section, where women can discuss topics relevant to them and their interests and a DIS Dads section where we can discuss stuff that's actually cool and relevant then it would make sense to me that there is already a co-ed board where the two can co-exist... http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

True. I'm not likely to click over there. Too much effort. I'll check the sub-forum on occasion.

And smell nicer too.

My wife likes bourbon and bacon. Two other reasons I married her. She is from KY, so our women are required to like bourbon and good college basketball teams. She does find it gross when I lift my leg to fart.

It's possible. But as others said, we get some visitors and some of our wives have visited (& posted).

So, I'm bummed that she didn't like you, but that is really freaking cool that you can spy in Russian.

I enjoy listening to Eric and I really respect his opinions, but I think his palette is more sophisticated than mine. It seems you Chris and Eric have probably the broadest experiences especially with Signature dining. It'd be really interesting to hear the 3 of you argue the merits of the final 4 and maybe let each one of you argue on behalf on something that you felt was eliminated before it's time.

Eric has a way more refined palate than mine. I'm more of a beer and bar food eater. I made the decision years ago that I wanted to try and eat at all the restaurants at WDW because I like the new experiences. Since the Quest for the Holy Grail was already filmed, I figured this quest was a good as any other.

Go Irish :thumbsup2 If I had tickets to a game would you go?
:

Of course I would go. What, are you drunk?

Hmmm... you have a good idea there, Norm! Sort-of like letting the girls hang out in the living room while the dads are smoking cigars the den?

That was my thinking, but I like your analogy. It's not like we can exclude anyone on these threads, just not give a number. I really can't imagine any girls wanting to join us here with our conversations. But, as DW was also bored on the DisMom's thread, I figured she might find a thread that is a little more fun to post (just not this one).

24oz Milwaukee's Best Ice, I Dream of Jeannie, and Mary Tyler Moore. A rough evening.

Makes up for 8 solid hours of meetings today. :headache: I don't know how you guys do it that have to do that every day or even once a week.

.....
Henry Winkler had a bit walk on part on Mary Tyler Moore tonight.

Wow, one girl posts in here and this place gets all giddy and fills up 4 pages in a few hours... It's like middle school in here! :rotfl2:
