How is this not on the front page of this thread?? This is DISDadism at its best. Father of the Year!

So, dd (11) tried out for local dance company yesterday and did not make the cut. I know nothing about dance, but the company includes high school girls who are older, more experienced, and physically stronger than my dd is, so I can understand that. She was sad, but I used it as an opportunity to encourage her to practice and train harder for tryouts next year.

However, two other girls that did make the dance company included one older girl from a wealthy family and one with a parent as an attorney. The problem is that both girls are in high school, maybe 5.5 feet tall at the most, and about 250 pounds.

I have nothing against fat people, because I am fat people. And, while I know nothing about dance, I do know I have not seen a 250 pound dancer at WDW, AGT, or anywhere else. I just cannot imagine that either girl is a better performer than my own daughter.

I had to bite my tongue not to say that there are times in this world when it doesn't matter how good you are or how much effort you put into it, you're just gonna get screwed by people with their own agenda. It is not about talent or ability, but who you know or who your friends are. Thanks for reading.

I am sorry to hear she did not make it. I know she loves dance...

All I need is a name and an address :cool2:

An unfortunate but important life lesson for a youngster. Its not only about talent and hard work. Connections and influence often tip the balance, which explains a lot about the current state of affairs. I'd imagine everyone else associated with the team knows what's going on including the heifers. Of course it could just be they needed a couple big foundation stones for their human towers.

Rant accepted. Kids get all manner of disappointments just as adults. You can shield them from reality once in a while, it's ok. Go Norm and keep encouraging them!

Thanks. She'll tryout again next year. If she doesn't make it then, I might give you a call with that address. :badpc: :faint:

No human towers in this company, just dance - ballet, point shoes, jazz, tap, hip hop. I'll have to assume this teacher knows what she has doing as she has had two dancers from the company go on to be a NYC Rockette. She did say something to DW about those girls making the team over her, so apparently, she knows more of what is going on than i give her credit for. It is an important life lesson, although I am just too much of an idealist. I knew she needed to learn it, but I was just hoping it would be later in life.

Not sure if any of your DD's or DS's play at Pixie Hollow... but just received notice that Disney is shutting the web site down next month. Get free unlimited access until Sept 19th. My DD certainly has enjoyed the site over the years and has been very entertaining. Thought I'd pass this along.

Just time for a quick skim but looks like prayers are in order for several.

Sorry to hear she had to learn that lesson already. Childhood ends too soon.
It is an important lesson, but a hard one.

Barry, I fixed it for you.

A tough lesson to learn there…
But that nonsense ain’t new and (being as humans are involved) ain’t likely to stop any time soon.

Having the determination to take another crack at it shows considerable resilience and that’s a mighty good thing. The only recourse here is to be skilled to the point where you can’t be overlooked. Something else that ain’t easy, but it is the best response to that kind of ****.

Thanks Shawn, and yes, childhood ends way earlier than it should.

Thanks. I think that is what made it more difficult - the blatent ****. Hopefully, this year will go quickly for her, with different results next year.

Morning guys.

Any of the dads in/on their way to WDW today want to trade places and go to work while I have dole whips at the Poly???:confused3

Just curious.

Unfortunate she has to learn so early that the world can suck at times. Hope she keeps her head up.
