Hey Philip! (DisDr.)
I'm Late!
:sad1:

Ditto! Happy Birthday, Emma and Phil!

Crazy. Life keeps moving on. I look back in 2011 and see milestones passed, tragedies unfold, and countless blessings given not just to me, but to our family as a whole. Having you guys around makes it easier to share in each of these.

Here's to an awesome 2012! :cool1::dance3::yay: Unless the Mayans are correct, then it's the worst year EVER! :lmao::lmao:

Nice speech, Don!

Well, it happened. The worst thing ever (not counting the Mayans),

a boy called my daughter on the phone. :scared1:  :scared1:  :scared1:  :scared1: :sad1:

Now, there are a two neighbor boys that stand on the sidewalk in front of the house in the AM and compete to walk my daughter to the bus stop. But, I was not ready for the phone call. For her 10th birthday, she was wanting a tablet so we bought her the Kindle Fire (since DW likes it so much). Now, she's talking about having an email and Facebook account. Ahhhhhhhh!

Oh, Norm. You are in big trouble...

I don't want to talk about what comes next.

As for the phone, we have an extra cell phone (no internet or texting) added on the family plan for both dds to use if needed. We will add a 4th when the younger one gets older. If they want an Iphone or data plan, they have to have a job to pay for the additional services.

As for Facebook, she says that EVERYONE in her class has one. DW and I said that when the tablet gets here, then we would sign her up on FB with the condition that she shares her password for us to monitor.

Lots of 5-6th graders have them in my town, but certainly not the majority and mostly girls. Technically, you need to be 13 to have a FB account, but lots of parents sign their kids up anyway. It will come and as most of us can attest to, a large part of someones social life is now spent on line. Just make sure that rules are set up and you supervise what is going on. At my house, we're still holding the line. My 11 year old wants one, but isn't pushing too hard, so we'll probably hold off until next year (6th grade).

Morning guys, and Happy New Year's Eve...

I made Apple Cider Donuts and BACON this morning for the kids.... mmmmmmmm. If you hurry on over, there might still be some for you - though the bacon has been going very, very quickly...

Those look fabulous, Christopher!

Cool. I ordered Space Mountain and DHS Sorcerer's hat. I'm going to wait on the train until our next visit to WDW.

I'm waiting 'til the stuff goes on sale again. Wish I had a bonus room I could keep it in all year long. :thumbsup2

!

I didn't know about the 13 age thing. I'm not a huge stickler for rules, but need to check that - thanks. I'm sure we'll intentioned people came up with these, but developmentally, what's the difference between 12 years 364 days old vs. 13 years and one day? To continue my rant, a brain is developed enough to sign up to die for country in military service, but not enough to purchase a beer to drink at dinner

Space Mountain was on sale but DHS hat was full price. It is starting to fill up. I fell victim to the marketing for free shipping. I could have bought 1 (under $50) and paid shipping, but buy 2 (now over $75) and get free shipping. Wow, I really saved money. Doh!

I told my girls to let me know when they were bringing their boyfriends over so I could clean my gun when they got here. :rolleyes1 I didn't meet too many of their boyfriends. :confused3

In addition to cleaning the gun, you need to tell them how you went to prison once and aren't afraid to go back haha

That always irked me as well! (although I'd rather see these kids home!)

Just took the kids tobogganing, and not only am I wet, cold, and tired... I think I twisted something in my knee...

Making a fresh pot of Starbuck's French Roast - there's sure to be an extra cup or two... anyone up for it?

Oh..... wait, you mean the Hot Wheel's Jeep. Ah... cool. :thumbsup2

Had me worried for a bit.

I just hope she doesn't bring home one that was in prison.

Pretty big uproar here in Shelby County yesterday. A 15 year old boy was shot in the woods about a mile and a half from my house. He was from Michigan visiting family over break and they were going to play paintball in the woods. Somebody heard a noise and thought it was coyotes and fired off 15 rounds from an assault rifle into the woods without confirming what they were shooting at. My cousin is on the FD and had to respond to the call. Said the kid was shot 3 times and the damage made him nearly unidentifiable. Just a sad story, especially this time of year.
.

Really sad story. I'm not sure about assault rifle issue, but if he was shooting at what he thought was coyotes on his own land with a shotgun or pistol, then there would not be a criminal charge. We've had many of those here, still sad, but with people hunting on other people's property without permission.

Both of my DD's have FB accounts. The oldest created one without our knowledge, lied on her age and other personal info, etc. This was a few years ago. When we found out, we had her delete the acct and the email acct she used. When she was 15 we allowed her to open another acct using the email address we know and said we must be friends on FB so we can see what she does. Last year younger DD wanted a FB acct, so DW & I talked and set one up for her, even though she was younger than FB age requirement. She has not abused the privilege and have no problems. I have her sign-on info and check on occasion what she has.

Both DD's are in a singing and dancing group that has participants from age 4 to 18. One of the 8 yo has a FB acct and I told them both that I feel 8 is too young. We were okay with DD12 getting one as she is fairly mature. HTH

I'm still on the fence with mine as she is only 10 & not very mature. But, I can monitor that more closely than I can monitor her F2F conversations with her peers. And, by coaching different teams and being in a small town, it is easier for me to someone that shouldn't be there. Also, she is not my lying child, and will tell us something or ask questions when she is not sure.

I went to the airport and they didn't have a ticket from you. Was I punk'd?

The players from the ohter team were all over him like white on rice...and ironicly they were the white team!:rotfl2: They had three guys on him. I'm not against owning guns, I have some myself, but there needs to be an IQ or idiot test before anyone is allowed to fire one. If you can't see what you're shooting at, don't pull the peanut butter trigger.

that's horrible. People get really dumb this time of year. Alcohol and motor vehicles/firearms don't mix.
