With the coming of the New Year, I will again be turning another year older. The question I have for this august assemblage is: Since the daughters are old enough to be alone for awhile and will neither harm each other or destroy the house, should I have dinner with my lovely bride of 27 years alone, or should we dine with our beloved offspring?

Alone

DW surprises me with the news that there is a sleepover tomorrow. 6 girls under age 10 in the house. My first thought was to go to the liquor store, but perhaps I need to go stay somewhere else. Too bad WDW is such a drive ....

Here's my favorite thing about girls under 10 at sleepovers - they don't really understand the need to control the volume of their voices and they conveniently forget that you are within earshot. Why is this a good thing? Because if you're quiet and unobtrusive, it's AMAZING what you can learn. :3dglasses

Stay out of their hair?? But he was planning to french braid theri hair!!!:rotfl2:

Wait another few years and Lauren will be telling you how she wants her braids redone because they aren't straight! :rotfl2:

Good morning guys. The inlaws are coming, the inlaws are coming :lmao:

We are going to the Children's Museum today. We are taking three nephews and one niece besides our two. My niece and nephews have never been before so I am sure they are going to be excited.

Have a great day gentlemen :thumbsup2

Went to Disney on Ice today.

Took a bunch of pics - most of them are blurry - those dang charactersd won't stay still and pose.

It was the BEST Disney On Ice I've been to. We have been to 4 in the last 3 years.

The show was 100 Years of Magic, and not only did they include Disney Stories, but they did a little piece on the Happiest Place on Earth. The set turned into It's A Small World and then floats came out to the Main Street Electrical Parade Song.

I will sift through the pics, and post some soon.

Good to hear! Thanks for the review

Mornin' Carl!

Mornin' Dads.

I just found out some wonderful news! My DW told me that the tickets we received for Disney on Ice happen to fall on the same day of her extended family's christmas get together. (the weird side of her family)

So it turns out, we'll be missing a good chunk of our get together! Shucks!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Whenever you get the chance to dine alone with your spouse - take it.

That's just wrong.

They also don't have a stop button, and will just talk and talk and talk. If I walk with them or play soccer outside, then they talk the whole time. It is a great way to learn things. My oldest said that a friend in her school told her that she had been sexually abused by her dad. Initially, I was horrified for the girl and then sad that my own child, will be 10 in 2 weeks, has to know about that stuff as well. But, I also know she is talking to us, which is a good thing.

Mine know to fix their own hair, ask mom, or live with what dad gives them. The in-laws? You can hide in my bonus room.

Found out near the end of work today that I only have to work tomorrow morning, rather than a full shift. Which means, I'll have about 9 hours to myself while DW is working. I'm sure I'll spend most of the time trying to beat Batman: Arkham Asylum again (haven't gotten a new video game since February, so I haven't gotten the sequel yet). Of course, I should at least try to clean the home a bit first...

That's too bad... I am sure they won't understand...:confused3
It'll somehow turn out to be your fault. :sad2:

Yes, this is the same get together, that in previous years, I've requested to switch with a co-worker to make sure I had to work!!

:rotfl2:

"Darn it anyway - looks like I'm scheduled to work that day! Maybe next year!"

Playing Portal 2 with my oldest now. It is amazing how good he is at solving those puzzles. :confused3 Plus, it's hilarious! So gives me the opportunity to give him positive reinforcement for figuring stuff out and lets me teach more about humor. I highly recommend it!

My son is the same way... Really good at puzzles, always thinking 2 steps ahead, in fact he has recently asked me to teach him chess (now if someone could just teach me) :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

His teacher gave him an Excellent in Math on his interim report. She said he was the only Excellent in the class - but she had no choice. She said he could teach the class. :thumbsup2

Congrats on your son's math! Never got into Chess (nor my kids), but I know people love it for similar reasons!

This is my son with autism so we're always looking for opportunities to positively re-inforce his strengths. I'm pretty good with math and puzzles, but I was really blown away by how intuitively and quickly he got these puzzles (that involve 3D space, changing gravity and force, and by-passing obstacles with unclear rules). So much so that I emailed his behavior and development doctor to recommend it to other kids.

I guess I need to get a trip planned:thumbsup2 Since My wife was able to take a trip without me I think I should be able to set up some kind of trip to meet up with the DDC( I am sure Mark has my back on this).

So I know it has been talked about and thrown around a few times but lets not let it die.We need a DDC week/weekend.I think it needs to be planned for 2013.I know if we keep bringing this topic up some one will grab the bull by the horns and get this rolling again:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I actually have yet to play a Portal game (although I love the end song to the first one). Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are great games (well, I'm assuming for Arkham City based on what I've read and heard). They are a nice mix of action and, at time, puzzle solving. They have parts where you're supposed to stealthily subdue bad guys (both within the single player campaign and in what they call Predator Challenges). The Predator Challenges especially can be difficult to figure out sometimes (such as take out three bad guys with three different exploding walls). Once you finally complete one of these challenges, you can go back and try to get a better time (while also completing three tasks that are specific to the level, such as perform a silent takedown, or use a single remote batarang to knockout two baddies). There are also Riddler Challenges in both games, where you have to either scan certain references in the surroundings, or picking up riddler trophies (in the first game, there are 230, in the second, about 400). Lots of replay value and problem solving.

Wow...I went on a bit of a speech there...to put it shortly, the new Batman games are fantastic! :thumbsup2
