Hey all! Well, I lost about 4 pounds when I was sick since all I took in was IV fluids for several hours

It was a temporary loss though, thanks to eating again and TOM. I haven't weighed myself again (not until Sunday) but I'm sure it will be right about where I started. Today has not been a great day as far as eating. I'm not making horrible decisions but I'm not staying on my menu either. Tomorrow is a new day, and dinner should be healthy!
Beth -- I'm sorry I missed your post earlier, I skipped a whole page or two! I am now the case manager at a daycare for medically fragile/special needs kids called Max's House. We have about 30 kids enrolled (after only 15 months open!) and average about 15 on a given day during the school year. The illness range from a fragile diabetic to cerebral palsy (all levels) to Downs Syndrome and children with multiple injuries from accidents and abuse.
The job basically fell into my lap, when I had a lengthy phone conversation with the nursing director/founder. She and I had so much in common, and I absolutely loved her vision for the company. It is under a parent company of Maxim Healthcare (nation-wide) and they are looking at opening several more across the state, and eventually the country. We are also working with the state boards to work on regulations for medical daycares, but that's another story
On a daily basis, I do a little bit of nursing. There are 3-4 nurses on the floor each day, as well as special needs teachers and teacher aides. On busier days, the director and I fill some of those nursing roles. The rest of the time, though, we work closely with various therapies, schools, etc to get the kids progressing to their fullest potential. In some cases this also means children's services, etc. I have been passionate about the children of abuse since I worked at Children's, and this is such a rewarding position! Every day I get to foster independence in these kids that are often just set in a corner, fed and changed (if that). We watch them make such efforts both socially and physically, and I absolutely LOVE going in every day.
Basically, I'm gradually taking over the role of nursing director at this location so that my current director can focus on growing more of these programs.
Today we had Gapper, the Cincinnati Reds mascot come to visit. It was lots of fun! We only have about 8 people in our location on a regular basis, and all get along well. The hours are phenomenal (6:30-2:30 M-F for the most part), no weekends, no holidays. Days or hours off when I need them (not always paid, but always flexible). It is truly a blessing! I took a significant paycut for the time being, but I don't cry every other day (literally) and make myself sick dreading work!
