DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I'm up 1.2 lbs from last week. I know that I am retaining fluids, yet amazed as my nose is running like a faucet :rotfl: I know that I will shed these lbs quickly as it is water weight, but it is still frustrating. I know that I had one bad day last week, but I was really on track the other 6.

Hey guys, it looks like everyone is doing well. I m cutting back on my Soda drinking, and hubby and I are working out 3 times a week. I have about 180lbs to lose...ugh... but, I m down about 10 since the beginning of the year...just need to stay committed.

Good for you on the 10 pounds! That is very significant! Keep up the good work, and we'll be here to cheer you on!

I weighed myself before work this morning & I am only down 1 pound, I was hoping for more. Oh well there is always next week, I will keep plugging along!

A pound is still a great loss! Good for you, Janet! And good for keeping your attitude positive!

Don't get too frustrated! We all know how the TOM can really mess things up! You are doing so very well. With all your added exercise, you may be adding extra muscle, too.

Hey all! Well, I lost about 4 pounds when I was sick since all I took in was IV fluids for several hours :rotfl: It was a temporary loss though, thanks to eating again and TOM. I haven't weighed myself again (not until Sunday) but I'm sure it will be right about where I started. Today has not been a great day as far as eating. I'm not making horrible decisions but I'm not staying on my menu either. Tomorrow is a new day, and dinner should be healthy! :)

Beth -- I'm sorry I missed your post earlier, I skipped a whole page or two! I am now the case manager at a daycare for medically fragile/special needs kids called Max's House. We have about 30 kids enrolled (after only 15 months open!) and average about 15 on a given day during the school year. The illness range from a fragile diabetic to cerebral palsy (all levels) to Downs Syndrome and children with multiple injuries from accidents and abuse.

The job basically fell into my lap, when I had a lengthy phone conversation with the nursing director/founder. She and I had so much in common, and I absolutely loved her vision for the company. It is under a parent company of Maxim Healthcare (nation-wide) and they are looking at opening several more across the state, and eventually the country. We are also working with the state boards to work on regulations for medical daycares, but that's another story

On a daily basis, I do a little bit of nursing. There are 3-4 nurses on the floor each day, as well as special needs teachers and teacher aides. On busier days, the director and I fill some of those nursing roles. The rest of the time, though, we work closely with various therapies, schools, etc to get the kids progressing to their fullest potential. In some cases this also means children's services, etc. I have been passionate about the children of abuse since I worked at Children's, and this is such a rewarding position! Every day I get to foster independence in these kids that are often just set in a corner, fed and changed (if that). We watch them make such efforts both socially and physically, and I absolutely LOVE going in every day. :)

Basically, I'm gradually taking over the role of nursing director at this location so that my current director can focus on growing more of these programs.

Today we had Gapper, the Cincinnati Reds mascot come to visit. It was lots of fun! We only have about 8 people in our location on a regular basis, and all get along well. The hours are phenomenal (6:30-2:30 M-F for the most part), no weekends, no holidays. Days or hours off when I need them (not always paid, but always flexible). It is truly a blessing! I took a significant paycut for the time being, but I don't cry every other day (literally) and make myself sick dreading work! :rotfl:

Jennifer--that sounds tremendous and a great match for you! No amount of pay is worth you crying every other day. I knew that you were unhappy before, but I didn't realize just how miserable. CONGRATULATIONS on having the courage to make a positive change!

Jennifer that sounds wonderful. I am glad you found something that makes you happy.

Thanks everyone! You are exactly right about pay REALLY not being worth it! Every now and then I find myself caught off guard with a smaller paycheck, but I truly LOVE going in every day and I miss the kids when I'm gone! My days fly by and I come home feeling so rewarded.... it's amazing. Of course, it helps that it has NOTHING to do with traditional nursing (no offense Jennifer, you know how I feel about it not fitting me! :rotfl: ). I have so much autonomy and that's also a bonus.

Now, if only I could be so motivated to exercise or eat right! :rolleyes1

Speaking of exercise, please keep me in your prayers on Thursday. I went to an orthopedist after the race. I of course got both yelled at and congratulated for doing it  but it sounds like I did a number on my knee. They referred me to a surgeon "just for a second opinion", but I see him Thursday. I'm a bit scared!

Thanks everyone for your support... you all are a blessing! :goodvibes

Jennifer Im new to this board but what you do takes a special person and it will come back to you! Good luck with every thing!

Congrats to the others who lost its always exciting to see the scale fall!

And I know how hard it is to see the scale go up even when it is normal water gain every month I come out and say I gained 5 lbs My DH says your going to start and hes right but its ALWAYS HARD to take! Drink extra water it will help!

:teacher: A wise woman told me she had gained her wait by bits and pieces
a littel bit here a littel peice there!
We can loose it the same way!:cheer2:

Jennifer, this job sounds tailor made for you! I'm so glad that you are happy in your work.

By the way, I love the pictures in your siggy! You and Kyle look great!

:welcome: Nettii & amyobald...it's always good that when we get newcomers. Good luck & let us know how we can help.

Well, after my bad week, I faced the music tonight & I only gained 1 lb. I am excited about that  as I thought it would be much worse.

Janet....1 pound equals four sticks of butter....a pound is a good loss. :fish:

Jenn/Tink....I am glad you found a job that you are happier with. I did pediatric oncology for 10 years & didn't even know how badly it was affecting me until I left it after some serious soul searching. Miraculously I now very rarely have migraines (I used to have 1 a week) & my IBS rarely flares up. Good for you for not taking so long to decide that you needed a change. It took me a long time to be able to say it's ok to stop doing this job that I love, but that is killing me emotionally.

Everybody have a great week & let's all keep :fish:.

I wanted to tell you all about some T-shirts that we saw all along the half marathon route. They were worn by a bunch of DIS'ers (lime green shirts, of course), and on the back they said:

DLF>DNF>>DNS

Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start.

I loved that slogan, and felt like it could apply to us here, as well. We should all be proud that we have started! Let's just keep working toward our goals. Together we can make it!!!

They also have lime green bracelets with the DLF>DNF>>DNS slogan on them.

Welcome to this section Amy and Nettii. We have a great bunch of people on here who have been very successful and who also have become like a second family to many of us. Together we can achieve more.

Janet- A one pound loss is better than a gain or maintaining.:thumbsup2

Deb- Hang in there, I know you can do this.

Jennifer- I am so glad to hear that you found a new job, glad this job has made you happier, I also love the new siggie, also I am glad to hear you are feeling better. Hope you don't need surgery and that your knee is feeling better soon.

I gotta get my butt moving more, my eating has been good, but I haven't been excercising enough than again I have been sick, first with a touch of the stomach thing and now some sort of cold. I've been trying to walk but not as much excercise as I would like.

i like that!!!!

I did my weigh in yesterday and I'm not sure I lost any weight. Reallly...I need a different scale, because the one we use is REALLY REALLY old, and it goes by 2's and thus is hard to tell if weight has been lost ;)

I will keep plugging away and drinking my water. I need to excersize more this week for sure. What does everyone do around here for excersize?

I either go to the gym in the mornings (treadmill, a few weights, aerobics) or do DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution) at night.

:cheer2: GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!:goodvibes Lets do the best we can today! :cutie: For ourselves so, we fell good!:flower3:
Drink that water Oprah said"Fat can not leave your body unless it is on a water moulacule! :boat: ":happytv: So drink up Ladies!Drink Up!!:sail: BonVoyage!

I have a home gym so either I lift down there or I do a walk away the pounds for abs video or DDR. It is just important to do something :thumbsup2

I would recommend you pick up a digital scale. Mine measures in tenths of pounds and it really picks you up when you see those numbers go down! It also gives me my current BMI. When you set it up, you input your height and current weight and it calculates BMI. Probably not too accurate, but it's a place to start!

I walk on the treadmill for most of my exercising. When it's warmer, I'll go back out into the neighborhood, and do my 4 mile route. It's just too blasted cold to do that. My fingers and toes don't thaw out for hours, and it gets really painful. So, I'm indoors until Spring. I'm checking out some beginning yoga DVD's from the library, as I've had that recommended to me. So, I'll let y'all know how that goes. If I like it, I'll invest in my own set of DVD's or tapes. I've also been known to put some Richard Simmons on the tv and "sweat to the oldies".

Any kind of movement is a good thing!
