DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I'd love to join the marathon training at least. I doubt that I would be able to do the marathon as we usually go to WDW in Nov/Dec so Jan is too close. Plus, Phil would most likely not be with us so I would have no where for Terra during the marathon. Maybe sometime I'll talk him into going along for it.

I'd love to do the half or the WDW 10K. Is the time requirement for the 10K doable if you're walking? I *thought* I was going to train and sign up for it in 2002 -- and then found out I was pregnant with DS. :goodvibes Since another pregnancy is not going to happen, I might consider training for one of these Disney runs in the future.

At the time I was starting to think about training for the 10K in 2002 (hoping to run it), I would walk/run along the track imagining it to be World Showcase. It really made trying to learn to run much more fun with a WDW race as my goal.

Isn't it amazing how the more you exercise the more you want to do it? I'm finding that, too. I can put a movie on and walk on the treadmill and feel like I'm being entertained. I'm halfway through "Phantom of the Opera" again. Love that movie. Guess I'll have to think about what's next. Any suggestions? DH got the movie "Clue" for Christmas. I love that one, but have watched it so many times since Christmas I almost have it memorized. I just love Madeline Kahn. So, let me know what you like to watch while you exercise.

Okay - so Nancy and I are in to train for the 1/2 marathon

what better incentive than a trip to WDW? and having people working with me will really help out!!

I talked to DH about it last night, and he sounds supportive so far. Do you think it's doable for someone who has never done a half marathon before to actually be able to do this? I would love to do this and with WDW as my goal, I think I'd stick to the training. I don't think I could talk DH into doing it with me, but I might try my father. Do you think the half would be too difficult for a 74 year old? He walks everyday and people actually think he's only in his 60's. He's a very young 74. He is as obsessed with Disney as I am, so to be able to spend time with him in WDW would be heaven for me. Have I mentioned that I am definitely a daddy's girl?

Also, do you know what the registration fee is and when we would have to register?

Glynis- I had never done a race, let alone a half marathon when I did it in 2005! And I was WAY OVER WEIGHT when I did it! Of course you can do it. Follow that schedule taht I posted above and you'll be good to go- I PROMISE! Believe me, if I could do it- anyone can!!! And you will feel so great about yourself. I was telling Princess Nancy that the first time I saw that I had to walk 6 miles I didn't think I would EVER be able to do it. But I did.... and it was easy for me when the time came! I actually started training to do the half in April 2004 and was ready by January 2005. As for your dad- only he(and his doc) can say for sure- but we saw people of all ages there when we did this.
Kate gave you good info on the registration this year- what I can tell you is that this year's fee went up $10.00 from the year before. Anyone that is a DVC member should know that there is a DVC discount for the registration fee- it's like $10.00 or $15.00- I can't remember exactly - sorry!

WOOOOHOOOO! You mean I won't have to go by myself?!?!? This is a FIRM comittment??? You'll be so glad you did this- it's so exciting to be there and feel the energy from everyone around you! Are ya booking at BCV? I think we will be!!!! That SAB and it's sand bottom on my tired feet and legs was one of my best memories!

I just wanted to say that I did the first day of the training plan, tonight DH and I walked for 25 minutes. :cheer2:

Also, I looked at the Disney Marathon website and it had dates for 2007 as Jan 6th. Karen, you posted it as Jan 13th? Do you think the website is not up to date?

I am actually really excited about this, and I should be able to commit to it after I find out later this month if my job will be ending or not. (Long story, but we are constantly going through downsizing)

Do you know how soon you need to register once they open it up? Because I see that they close it out when they get full, do you know when it filled up for this year?

Ellen

If the website says the 6th- then it's the 6th! Who am I to correct the powers that be at WDW????

Registration usually starts in February or March- I'll keep my eye out for it and let you all know. You should register relatively early though- they usually fill to capacity the number of people for the half. In 2004 they registration was closed in July (I think) for the 2005 half.

do I have to sign up and pay now?

what if I do and then don't train - am I out the money?

Might be a good strong commitment to make!!
