DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I'm a substitute teacher. I'm having a heard time with all of this - mostly in my head of course!

This morning I woke up, turned on the tv - www.nbc5.com/today (I think that's the main page) and the topic is jump starting an exercise plan (similiar I'll bet to the walking plan a very kind dda'er posted!) so I thought I'd share the link - its a good read, it has information on the target heart rate - and the first day concentrate on 10 minutes of walking...

Then to add 2 or 3 days of strength training, I've read some great things about this - remember the Extreme Makeover show on ABC? That 'personal trainer' sells a 6week Body Makeover program I bought (still reading it - the exercise info is good, but the diet seems awfully restrictive for me - I"m hypoglycemic)

anyway, in case anyone is interested >

http://www.nbc5.com/today/5999294/detail.html

So I walked today!! I didnt have a lunch prepared, and found I couldnt eat during the "regular" lunch hour (1:20 is my lunch hour!! aaack - so I walked to the 7 -11 and got an apple, diet dr pepper, baked lays and a can of tunafish!! I walked!!

Good for you! You are doing it! Celebrate the small victories! I remember in college walking to 7-11 with my roommates. We would celebrate our walking by buying nachos and slurpees. Ah the good old days when we could eat what we wanted.

Hi everyone! I'm on my way over to post on the progress thread and just wanted to pop in and say hi. It sounds like everyone is doing well this week. I am thankful to say that I was down 3lbs since last Wed (5 total since the 1st). Considering yesterday was a bad day (work stuff) and I had a Happy Meal for lunch and nothing really for dinner, I don't think that I did too bad. I just keep telling myself that a Cheeseburger Happy Meal with Diet Coke is still better than a Quarter Pounder meal with medium or large fries.

I did manage to get on the exercise bike on Monday after work. It worked out pretty well and I plan to continue doing that most days. It has also been a little less cold so I have walked all 4 legs of my commute the last two days.

Keep it up everyone!

Hey everyone!

So I just got back from the gym, which was fantastic... until I stepped on the scale. I think I've gained 5 pound since I last weighed myself! And I haven't been working out, so it's NOT muscle! :worried: :earseek:

I hate days like this. I was so motivated, and poof! Not so much. Do you think ice cream would make me feel better? :scratchin

That looks great. I never noticed that it was spelled wrong. :confused3 How did you get the edges so clean. I removed the background which took forever, but the edges were still rough. Any tips? Also how did you tip the wording on top? Can images be tipped too?

Of course it WOULD make you feel better in the short run! Don't get down, Jennifer. You were on a trip. We all know how hard it is to lose weight when you are not cooking your own meals, etc. Just start back up where you are. You are just fine!

Hey everyone. I found a new salmon recipe that was a hit with my kids. Is anyone interested? It's Pan Sauteed Salmon in Lemon Honey Sauce. It is 325 calories per serving, 18 g. fat, 5 g. Carbs. Let me know if you want it!

By the way, has anyone heard from Princess Nancy lately? Kate is she ok? I haven't heard from her in a couple of days and I'm starting to get worried.

Thanks. I didn't have ice cream. I had a regular Mountain Dew, but it was my only soda of the day so I don't care. Even though I was on a trip, I REALLY haven't gained weight for a while. I was at a plateau, but thankfully a plateau on the way up! I was quite thankful for that, but I broke through I suppose. Some of it might be water weight.... so I'm really not too hung up on it.

Just a little.

It felt great to work out today, though.... even after the gym we took the dog for a walk, etc. That's better than nothing!

Thanks for the encouragement :goodvibes

I had a pretty large image to start with and then I erased the background with the magic eraser - there is a thing called the transform tool and it gives you a rotator box - you can rotate just about anything!!!

I admit it....

I am an emotional eater. Good or bad, I'm an eater. I love to eat.

Last night dh kept asking dd and I about Disney resorts. He finally came out and said, he wanted us to go back to Disney this coming OCTOBER!! (we have planned to wait till 2007!) He realized our 25th anniversary is this August, but we had such a lovely time at the Party of the Senses... so he said I should plan something!! (Mind you we having the all too familiar finacial woes!!) :cool1:

Of course, I took one look at me in the mirror, and ate a Dove chocolate promise candy!!

I dont know if I can do this... I'm so afraid right now. I'm beginning to picture the way I used to look before I had all those bad problems, and well... I did exercise yesterday, was sore today, but plan on strength training after work...

::yes:: One day at a time.

Try. Just for today. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may never come. Try. Today. Just today.

*sigh... breath in.... breath out. (and :rotfl2: keep my mouth shut!!)

OK, I FINALLY caught up to all you "do-gooders" and started exercising yesterday. DH and I are still thinking about the WDW 10K in October, so I followed Hal Higdon's Beginning Runner's Guide 30/30 plan. My 5yo DD (Beth) came with me, and she was the BEST walking/running buddy I could have asked for.

The 30/30 plan in a nutshell is that you walk/run for 15 minutes and then turn around and go back, so you total 30 minutes. After the first 10 minutes of walking only, you are allowed to run for 30 seconds at a time, recover (however long you need) and then run again. The last 5 minutes are cool-down, so walking only. (As you get better, you can do that middle 15 minutes alternating running with walking every 30 seconds. I'm not up to that yet.)

Beth was great. She kept up with me the whole time, never complained, and then when I was still wanting to "recover" for a little longer (feeling lazy after my illness), she'd ask, "Mommy, can we run again?" How can you say no to that? So I ran a little more than I would have without my favorite little kick-in-the-butt person.

DSIL who ran track in HS and college and is a marathoner says that kids shouldn't really do track until they're older. I need to find out just what Beth is "allowed" to do at this age -- I'd hate to lose my running buddy, but I don't want her to do any damage. I'm off to read Hal Higdon's take on this, but wanted to see if you all had any ideas as well. Most of all, I know that her dietary needs will increase, and I'm going to have to get her to eat a little more. (Ah, to have such problems.) If/when I progress to running only, I think she'll need to stay home, but for now, it's a great way for us to spend time together.

I am here! :wave2: Just a little :crazy2: ! I did not feel like I had much to contribute! Hopefully I will perk up soon.
Thanks for checking on me. :flower3:

Kyle and I did a 1.5 mile warm-up and then strength training (LifeCircuit). For the second day in a row I felt like I could (and even wanted) to work out more! What's up with that?! :rotfl: I didn't though, because I don't want to get burned out (with the same routine at least). Kyle and I did go on a walk with the dog when we got home, so that's a little bonus exercise I guess. Now I'm not feeling too hot (maybe this has something to do with getting 2 hours of sleep? :rotfl:) so I'm pretty much just lounging around. Thank goodness for a 4-day weekend! If only I didn't have a root canal tomorrow! :rotfl: Actually, I found with the first that it was more tolerable than I imagined, but I will now have temporary fillings on both sides of my mouth. Where do I eat?! :rotfl2: Maybe this will be good for the diet ;)
