Just wanted to check in before I'm off to work.
Kate How the heck did you swing that with your dad?!?!? YIPPPPEEEE! Sounds like you have some great support from the fam! I'm very excited for you. And I KNWO you cna do this- we'll make sure. And CONGRTAS on the 4.5 weight loss- that's PHENOMONAL!!! WTG!!!

ANyone else out there have a dad that would do that for me???? ;)

It seems to be the week of dads doesn't it. How nice for you Glynis that your dad sent you that email. Make sure you print that up and save it. Read it when yopu get down- it will be a good motivator for you!

It's times like this when I miss my dad the most. But, I can't talk about that now.... or I'll cry.

Anyway- did anyone check out the Marathon training thread on the WISH board?

Everyone needs to cry from time to time. It can be sad when others talk about something that we might not have anymore. Sending  :grouphug: your way.

I am a horrible wimp about the cold too. Also, if it is snowy or icy it is just too difficult to walk outside. But actually we have had an unusual # of days of weather above freezing and there is currently no snow on the ground, so for a little while I don't have that excuse. I can walk on the treadmill for a mile or 2, but after that it is just way too boring, so I am hoping that when I get up to walking more than that it will be nice outside.

You're welcome for the parking pass.

Ellen

The weather here has been gorgeous highs in the 50's for everyday until next Sunday. So I have been taking adavantage and been going outside and trying to take a walk outside, since I am starting to feel a little better.

I lost 8 pounds this week. Hooray for me. :hyper: :cutie: Now I just gotta keep my self motivated so I keep eating healthy, drinking my water and exercising everyday.

I read a great suggestion for kids on the topic just the other day. A mom was saying that she was concerned about her son not eating a variety, but wasn't going to ask him to clean his plate or eat more after saying he was through. Instead, she started encouraging a few bites of everything at the beginning of the meal and then serving more of his favorites when he asked for seconds.

I like that idea instead of finishing everything. I was always told I had to empty my plate for dessert.

I remember going on a trip to Washington D.C. in 5th grade. One of the people in charge told me I had to eat all of my sandwich, even though I told them it didn't taste right after the first bite. They wouldn't get me another one because the line was too long and we were on a tight schedule. I ended up getting food poisioning, :crazy2: they meat was probably spoiled. I was :sick:sick for like a week and was absolutely miserable the rest of the trip. Luckily, no one else got sick.

Never mind. It appears DH remembers who he is talking to and thinks I can't do this :sad1:

Jennifer,
I am so sorry your DH doesn't think you can do this. He should have more confidence in you. ::yes:: I think you can do this. :goodvibes You can do anything if you put your mind to it and keep on working towards your goal.

I'm sending :wizard: your way that he choses to support you instead of tear you down. Take it one day at a time and keep on working towards your goal and prove him wrong.

That's awesome! Thanks for doing the math. I've been wondering when we'd hit 100. Shouldn't be much longer, especially if more people join this thread. Too cool!

I'm doing so well on the Strep Throat Diet, I should patent this thing. Granted the pain and exhaustion were pretty bad, but the good news is that I can now slip my hand inside the waistband of my jeans! Considering that as recently as October, I was all set to buy a new "fat" wardrobe, I am SO happy about this. Buying a new "skinny" wardrobe will feel like MUCH less of a waste of money!

Now remind me: no gorging myself once I can swallow without pain. I'd hate to lose what progress I've made.

So exciting! DH just asked me for an invite to join our DDA Discovery National Body Challenge group. He's one step closer to becoming a true DDA...

You are in the right place for support! That's what we are here for! :cool1:

Well, I'm a little frustrated this week. I've been really good, haven't cheated with my eating, exercised every day and still only lost 1 pound (almost 2). Oh well, at least it's still losing, right? I do think, though, that I'm gaining some muscle mass with the exercising. My clothes are looser, so I know that I'm still losing fat, so that's encouraging. Someone tell me that this plateau thing won't last forever!

Glynis -- hang in there! I've talked to my Weight Watchers counselors several times about this, and it is true. If you start exercising consistently it will make you gain a little, but it is only because muscle weighs more. The good part is that muscle also burns more calories, so you should see it even off, then begin to notice how much exercising makes a difference!

Now, I just need to make more time for exercise. I did go work out yesterday, but mom broke her ankle this afternoon, so all plays flew out the door! I have to get the kids home for Awanas tomorrow night, so no time to work out after work, but I might try to walk if it isn't too cold after I drop the kids at Church. My elliptical machine is being delivered on Thursday -- I can't wait!

I am sure that the plateau thing won't last forever, and that as others have said, the exercise may cause you to gain muscle mass so you might not notice it on the scale right away. One suggestion that I have heard that I think might help is to take your measurements, so that if you don't see the weight loss, you will probably see improvement in your measurements, so that you will still have some quantifiable results. Also, I know for me that the weight loss does slow down at some points, and that if you are still losing even 1 pound per week that you are definitely making progress.

If you have started an exercise program that you wouldn't have done in the past then you have made awesome progress on that alone, and you should be extremely proud of yourself!!

:cheer2:

Hope that helps, you are doing great, keep up all the hard work and it will definitely pay off!!

Glynis. Plateaus are really tough. They can take a while to work through. Don't give up, just because the scale isn't cooperating doesn't mean that your body isn't changing. My experience has been plateaus that lasted up to a couple of months (very frusterating) followed by a big drop in weight all at once. I also noticed that the closer I got to my goal the quicker the plateaus came and the longer they lasted. I'm not trying to discourage you because I think you are doing awesome, I merely want to warn you of my experiences so that you can be prepared and not get frusterated when they come. Chris also had similar plateaus. Just keep plugging away and you will eventually see the results. When I get really frusterated I have to remember that I didn't gain the weight overnight, it took years so I know that it could take just as long to get it off. I'm determined and so are you. Keep up the good work.

I'm so sorry about your mom. I hope she's going to be ok! Thanks for the words. I am seeing weight loss only it's in ounces, not pounds. That's kind of hard since I'm used to seeing pound losses each day. I'm sticking with it, though. I feel so much better since I started exercising more!

You guys are the BEST EVER!!! I really needed all those words of encouragement. Believe me, I'm feeling really good with the new exercise program, and I don't plan on stopping. Besides, I've got to be able to do the half marathon! I honestly can't believe how excited I am about doing it! I NEVER would have thought I would be excited about walking 13 miles in a day! NEVER! But I am. DH is being so supportive! I love that about him! He is behind me; you guys are behind me and I know that with that kind of support there's nothing I can't do! Thanks again for caring about me! :flower3:

OK, is anyone else thinking about the WDW 10K? Here's the info:

http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....durance10kClassic2006EventInfoEventDetailPage

For DH and I, this is much better than the DL half marathon, although it would be SO COOL to be part of the inaugural run. But WDW is driving distance, taking DD out of school MAY not be an issue (she gets a Fall Break at some point, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed), and this helps clinch the decision to buy an AP again this year.

Now to run this past DFIL (AKA the man our hopes are pinned on to babysit during the race).

Hmmm, we may be downgrading to a Studio for our next trip if all works out. I may have to change my countdown tag line.
