DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

Thanks for the kick in the rear. And thanks, Kate for the new logos. I walked 5 minutes longer today than yesterday. I'm starting to feel really good. The stiffness is going away, and now it's starting to feel fun!

Glynis, Glad to help!! ::yes::

Hey guys -- I'd like to join this too. I started Weight Watchers three years ago, and lost 30 pounds during the first 6 months. I've been toying with those pounds since then, and am currently up 5 pounds from the lowest weight I reached. I just started WW again this morning (with my sister, who just had a baby 8 1/2 months ago). I need to lose another 15 - 20 pounds. The exercise is hard for me, as I work continually with a lot of other things going on, so my DH and I gave each other a Precor elliptical machine for Christmas. It will be delivered this Thursday, then I have fewer excuses for not exercising. Plus, we have our annual Spring Break Ski trip in March, and I have to get in better shape by then so I'm not hurting the entire trip.

One encouraging thing -- the last time I attended a WW meeting was probably 6 or more weeks ago. I was down 1.2 today from that weight. I have learned a lot from WW and consider it a lifestyle change, as much as a weight loss program.

To all who already started their programs -- you have been such an inspiration to me. I'm glad I found another "home" on the DIS.

When I order from QVC things arrive sooner than their estimate... USUALLY. So I am hoping we get our meals sooner than they say. My estimate was January 14, when I ordered in the middle of the night.

OH! You ordered it too!! Alright! We're really forming a group here aren't we?!?!? Yippee!! Hopefully mine will come sooner then later! It'll be fun to have someone doing the same plan. Thanks for letting me know you're on board with Nutrisystems too!!

So I haven't really posted on this thread this past week. I have been doing alright but with getting sick I haven't been working out per say. I have been trying to take the stairs and to walk more park further away. I worked out at the beginning of the week and was doing pretty good until Wednesday but then I started to get sick and I haven't really excercised much since then.

I also haven't been eating much of anything. Whatever I can get down that doesn't make me nauseous after a few bites is what I have been eating. I tried to eat a bowl of oatmeal the one morning I took three bites and dumped the rest in the trash because it made me so nauseous.

Today I saw the Chronicles of Narnia I ate like a handful of popcorn and was done. After the movie we went out to eat I got some baked chicken tenders unbreaded, ate one and was done.

I broke down and drank soda Ginger Ale and coke today because it was the only thing I could drink without it making me nauseous. I tried water, grape juice, apple juice, gatorade. Does anybody have any none soda suggestions? I don't like orange juice even when I am healthy, it makes me feel sick.

I am possibly interested in the half marathon at Disney World. 12 years ago I was down there when the marathon occurred and they had stuff all over about it. I was too young at the time to walk, but thought it would be neat to someday complete a marathon, but for now a half-marathon sounds like it might be a good idea.

But then again the half marathon in Disneyland sounds good. I've never been there before. That would make it a very neat and memorable experience.

Hopefully this coming week I will feel better so that I can start and stick to an exercise plan and eat better.

Becky

Kate I love your new designs. Beings I have not officially started yet, I will add one to my signature after my trip. I wish I had the willpower to watch what I eat while at Disney, but that's just dreaming on my part lol

For me, when I am queasy I like seltzer or club soda...I am not a big juice person.

Does anyone belong to Curves? I am not sure if it's a national chain or not...it's popular up here. It's a 30 minute workout to music on equipment. You switch equipment every 3 minutes. It is supposed to "give you the total workout" I keep thinking about it...but it's about $4o+ a month. Which I guess is not terrible if you use it. Anyone belong?

I joined curves last year. For me the workout was way to easy and it just didn't help. My mom did it and really toned. It all depends on the person and how much exercise your body needs. I also had difficulty with the hours as they weren't open past 7 PM and only a few hours on Saturday. For me it was definately not worth the money. I have better luck with the Walk Away the pounds tapes and they are a one time cost.

Kate. Love the new Siggie. Thanks for doing it. Chris and I are both doing excellent on the diet plan and we have exercised more this week than usual, but could still improve. We will update on the progress thread later. He took all 3 boys ice fishing so I'm supposed to be taking down the Christmas decorations. Gotta run.

OK you guys will keep me honest. I would never lie to a DIS friend. I have been on WW for 1 year and 4 weeks, and only lost 15 lbs. Cuz I can always lie to them, but now If I log on here and see you all can do it, then I am going to fly straight and narrow. So count me in!!! I need to be able to slide down the water slides w/o pulling a homer simpson in August!!! I don't mind be pooh sized, but since I am now Bear in the Big Blue House size, I gotta do something!!!

Thanks for starting this thread. :goodvibes

I am subscribing.

I know it could happen - I just don't want to make that my goal - if I set my goal too high I know that I might get discourage and give up - walking the half marathon seems like what I do at WDW anyway!! ;)

I also go commando style there!!!!

I have always wanted to run in a marathon - maybe I could build up in the next few years run the whole marathon!!!

Kate. Does going commando style cause chaffing?

Becky, my grandfather was a pharmacist, and anytime we got sick he would give us a spoonful of Coke syrup. He said there was something in it that would help settle the stomach. I always swore by it, then I got into drinking Coke and Diet Coke and got the same results. I even keep some caffeine free Coke on hand for when my kid's complain of stomach troubles.

Gingerale also works for me. Or it did before my surgery made carbonation a no-no. My mother nibbles on a piece of candied ginger when she feels nauseous. She says it works.

Good luck and get better.

This thread is addicting!!

Thank you all for posting, for sharing, and for trying!!

I know I have to do something, but I am so afraid, I'm not so much a stress eater, as a "couch potato"!! and I'm so afraid of failing!! I went over to Richard Simmons website, and they want $20 for 12 weeks, than $10 a month after that - for online support!!

I decided I need something to motivate me. I went to wdw last Oct with my parents, dh and dd - it was such a stressful, awful week, I vow to do it again with just dh and dd!! But, finances, (doctor bills, and hospital bills) seem prohibative...

Then I had an idea... I saw an ad for wdw, the $1600 family ad... and I got a meager paycheck, for a 3 week period, it was almost 1/3 of that cost!! WHY NOT? Because I'm fat. I dont fit in my clothes (since surgery)... maybe I need a kick in the pants...

Maybe, just maybe... so I came back to the Dis... and started Disney dreaming... and found the DDA (Kate had made some shirt designs for me, and I wondered what she was up to!! :flower3: :scratchin )

and a few of these threads gave me an idea... :confused3 Why not try just take things one day at a time... have a goal (go to WDW 2 dress sizes thinner!!) and just try...

So, today my goal is to try. To eat less, to plan on healthier meals. Maybe make a weeks worth of healthy breakfasts and lunches to take with me... (i have a great recipe for a healthy muffin - it freezes well!!)

Try... :upsidedow

Help,
I'm trying to talk Deb into doing the 1/2. She says we cant take the kids out of school. I say it's ok, they aren't old enough to participate anyway. I think we should let the kids stay with Grammy for a couple of days and sneak down for the walk. I think I'm going to need some help from some of her friends on the "boards".
As far as progress on weightloss, I've been extremely diligent on dieting. I work as an auto mechanic so I'm not around food at all during the day. I've even started working through lunch and drinking a gallon of water while at work everyday. It's more of a challenge for me to bring something to eat during the day in order to keep my metabolism going.
As far as exercising, I've convinced Deb that "sexercise" counts. Other than that I'm not too motivated yet. I do intend to do more. I wore a pedometer at work and average 10000 to 12000 step a day. I know that in order to lose weight I need to increase activity, but that proves that I am very active each day.
What do you think of my new signature that Deb made for me? Somehow I don't think Minnie did me justice. Do you think that she's setting too ambitious of a goal for me?
Good luck to all.

Chris
