DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

This thread is addicting!!

Thank you all for posting, for sharing, and for trying!!

I know I have to do something, but I am so afraid, I'm not so much a stress eater, as a "couch potato"!! and I'm so afraid of failing!! I went over to Richard Simmons website, and they want $20 for 12 weeks, than $10 a month after that - for online support!!

I decided I need something to motivate me. I went to wdw last Oct with my parents, dh and dd - it was such a stressful, awful week, I vow to do it again with just dh and dd!! But, finances, (doctor bills, and hospital bills) seem prohibative...

Then I had an idea... I saw an ad for wdw, the $1600 family ad... and I got a meager paycheck, for a 3 week period, it was almost 1/3 of that cost!! WHY NOT? Because I'm fat. I dont fit in my clothes (since surgery)... maybe I need a kick in the pants...

Maybe, just maybe... so I came back to the Dis... and started Disney dreaming... and found the DDA (Kate had made some shirt designs for me, and I wondered what she was up to!! :flower3: :scratchin )

and a few of these threads gave me an idea... :confused3 Why not try just take things one day at a time... have a goal (go to WDW 2 dress sizes thinner!!) and just try...

So, today my goal is to try. To eat less, to plan on healthier meals. Maybe make a weeks worth of healthy breakfasts and lunches to take with me... (i have a great recipe for a healthy muffin - it freezes well!!)

Try... :upsidedow

Welcome. WDW was a big motivator for us losing weight a couple of years ago. We did really well, I lost 45 lbs and Deb lost 50. We definately felt a lot better and weren't tired from walking all day. Looked better with all new wardrobes too.

Chris

Would it be hypocritical to walk a 1/2 marathon and then celebrate by eating a kitchensink by myself?

Chris

Chris (AKA KSG) and Deb

I think it would awesome if you and Deb decided to do the 1/2. My DH and I are planning to try, and I am really excited about it. Of course I am not much of an exerciser either, but this is such great motivation that I think it will work. I am following the training plan that karebear provided which so far is just walking for 20 to 35 minutes a day.

My DH is not a DISer, but he does love WDW and is willing to do this with me. We have the advantage that our kids are older, and will all be in college or beyond by next January. Although my 2 DS will probably be home from college during the 1st weekend of Jan. next year, so by April or so if I am definite about this, I may try to talk them into joining us if it doesn't interfere with their college schedules. They are both in much better shape, so it wouldn't be a huge stretch for them.

Anyway, if it would motivate you to exercise and be healthy, and you have someone who would watch your kids that you are both comfortable with, then I say why not? Chris, I hope you have luck talking Deb into it. You guys have done great already! This would be a great reward for continuing your weight loss plan and getting even healthier.

Chris

And I say if you can do a 1/2 marathon, you definitely deserve the kitchen sink!

Help,
I'm trying to talk Deb into doing the 1/2. She says we cant take the kids out of school. I say it's ok, they aren't old enough to participate anyway. I think we should let the kids stay with Grammy for a couple of days and sneak down for the walk. I think I'm going to need some help from some of her friends on the "boards".
As far as progress on weightloss, I've been extremely diligent on dieting. I work as an auto mechanic so I'm not around food at all during the day. I've even started working through lunch and drinking a gallon of water while at work everyday. It's more of a challenge for me to bring something to eat during the day in order to keep my metabolism going.
As far as exercising, I've convinced Deb that "sexercise" counts. Other than that I'm not too motivated yet. I do intend to do more. I wore a pedometer at work and average 10000 to 12000 step a day. I know that in order to lose weight I need to increase activity, but that proves that I am very active each day.
What do you think of my new signature that Deb made for me? Somehow I don't think Minnie did me justice. Do you think that she's setting too ambitious of a goal for me?
Good luck to all.

Chris

Nancy you are welcome to the logo. You may want to have Kate clean it up because it is really rough around the edges if you were to blow it up. I just don't have her skill.

As for the 1/2 marathon there are several reasons why we can't do it. 1) the kids are in school and they would never forgive a trip without them 2) my parents live in a different town and work so getting the kids to and from school is impossible and 3) when we go to WDW I want temps in the 80s. It was 48 degrees there this morning.

We have spent a lot of time going over DVC info this weekend and can't see where we'd benefit in the long run. We typically drive down with our camper and stay at FW. Our entire accomodation costs for 14 nights is well under $1000. With annual dues of $800 and climbing just that aspect doesn't make sense. We really like camping, don't mind the ride and save big $$ by driving and we have a car to use without the rental cost. When we do fly and stay at a resort we tend to take shorter trips and since we aren't in the room for long we don't mind staying at a value or moderate. Last trip we stayed nine nights for around $1100. Chris has crunched the numbers and we would end up paying almost $28,000 over the first 10 years including down payment, interest and yearly dues for 200 points. Then we would still be paying the yrly dues which seem to increase yearly or so. With a family of 5 we would have to rent a 2 bedroom or larger or not count one of the kids and sneak them in so 200 points won't go far and vacations would be less than yrly. For the next 14 years we will only be able to go for school vactions which require more points. We just can't make the numbers work for us. So many people are sold on DVC so someone tell us what we are missing. :scratchin. For $28000 I can easily take 7 trips and not skimp on anything we find important and I mean entire trips not just accomodations. Chris is standing behind me hoping that we are overthinking or missing something. We hope someone posts a response.

Congratulations, and thanks for the response - as for taking the kids out of school, as a teacher... Life is too short!! Our first 2 I was the "good mom" trying to do all things the way its expected of us, and there's a lot to be said for setting the positive example, and living it!! Now we have a "surprise" dd we took her out of school, and I dont regret it, would I do it again? Dont know, would depend on the circumstances!! In the whole scheme of life, when we set a goal, and we move towards that goal, and we did celebrate life - I'm hoping that will mean a lot more than her OCD 3rd grade teacher and her "busy" work for no purpose other than punishment homework!! (I've changed in 26 years!! lol!!)

My dh is also into support, and he is into walking, and running, setting a goal of a marathon!! I feel really lucky, and blessed!!

ut oh poor Bengals... :scared:

so... let's GO BEARS!! :cool1:

This recipe is good!! You can buy a bag of frozen mixed fruits (no sugar added) to replace the Rasberries called for - and the Oats are reccommended on several different diet plans...

Muffins

1 1/2 C whole rolled oats (quick cook are ok)
1 1/2 C oats ground w/ food processor till fine (you can buy oat flour at some specialty stores)
2 tsp Baking Powder
12 egg Whites slightly beaten (high in protein, low fat!)(you can use egg substitute but you may need to add a touch more oat flour as they are 'wetter' than if you use fresh egg whites - I use a combo - and dont feel guilty throwing the fatty yolk away!!)

4tsp Splenda
3 Cups Rasberries squished slightly

Combine Oats, baking powder, egg whites and splenda, then add the fruit (IF you use the frozen you may want to slice the larger strawberries) Spoon in muffin tins, slightly sprayed with PAM... Bake at 350 deg for 20 - 25 min

Do NOT put them in baggies or covered containers until they are TOTALLY cooled and dried... (otherwise condensation settles on the muffins they get mooshy and yucky - let them sit out, dry out, then bag 'em and freeze 'em)

These muffins dont raise very much, so fill your muffin tins to the top...

Makes 6 LARGE muffins, and 2 small muffins, or 12 small muffins

Serving is 1 large or 2 small muffins for 1/2 cup carb, 2oz Protein, and 1/2 C fruit!! (its a powerful breakfast!! Filling, and with the protein you dont get that sugar bomb effect!!)

Enjoy!! (I pop 2 small in the microwave, wrap them in a paper towel, and head off to work!! I eat one in the car on the way, and one when I get to the classroom!!)

Ok as I said earler sweets are my downfall, especially chocolate chip cookies with milk! Anyone have any good cookie recipes that are low cal, low fat, ect? I really don't think I can cut myself loose of cookies completly lol Am I helpless or what :confused3

These sound good!
