WOW! You know how things can change overnight? I mentioned my thoughts to DH about training for the half marathon in 2007. Well, he did an internet search and found that Disneyland is doing a half marathon this September! Even more exciting, he wants to try doing it with me!!!

I would love if some of you fellow DDA'ers would join us.

Here is the link: http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....CoastHalfMarathon2006EventInfoEventDetailPage

Watch out: There is LOUD music when you open the page. I blared it to everyone at work!

Keep us posted on if you decide to do this. We will be heading to SoCal sometime either early summer or early fall. I may be interested in joining you if we plan our trip at the right time.

I need something to put on my fridge and in my wallet :rotfl:

I am a stress eater and today after Nick was diagnosed with an ear infection, croup and a possible strep throat - let's just say I did a little stress eating!!

But i don't feel so good now - which is a good thing!!!!! I will remember this feeling when I go to stress eat again

I hope to start my walking for this weekend and I am trying to talk my mom into joining Nancy and I for the marathon!!

Keep up the great work - I can't wait to see our updates next week!!!

Poor Nick! I hope that he (and Julia) is feeling a little better now. I love the designs and will have to get one added to my sig soon.

Kate. Does going commando style cause chaffing?

Chris

I don't think I even what to touch that question. I just wanted to say that I really like the guy's logo! Did you do it or did Kate (I may very well find out when I catch up, but I'll forget to ask later if I don't.)

This thread is addicting!!

Thank you all for posting, for sharing, and for trying!!

I know I have to do something, but I am so afraid, I'm not so much a stress eater, as a "couch potato"!! and I'm so afraid of failing!! I went over to Richard Simmons website, and they want $20 for 12 weeks, than $10 a month after that - for online support!!

I decided I need something to motivate me. I went to wdw last Oct with my parents, dh and dd - it was such a stressful, awful week, I vow to do it again with just dh and dd!! But, finances, (doctor bills, and hospital bills) seem prohibative...

Then I had an idea... I saw an ad for wdw, the $1600 family ad... and I got a meager paycheck, for a 3 week period, it was almost 1/3 of that cost!! WHY NOT? Because I'm fat. I dont fit in my clothes (since surgery)... maybe I need a kick in the pants...

Maybe, just maybe... so I came back to the Dis... and started Disney dreaming... and found the DDA (Kate had made some shirt designs for me, and I wondered what she was up to!! :flower3: :scratchin )

and a few of these threads gave me an idea... :confused3 Why not try just take things one day at a time... have a goal (go to WDW 2 dress sizes thinner!!) and just try...

So, today my goal is to try. To eat less, to plan on healthier meals. Maybe make a weeks worth of healthy breakfasts and lunches to take with me... (i have a great recipe for a healthy muffin - it freezes well!!)

Try... :upsidedow

I think that's a great way to start! Anything that gets you going is great. Your goals sound a lot like mine. Eat healthier meals and drink water. That's what I'm starting with. I plan to give a month or two of just working on those two basic things and then reevaluating. If I am still losing, then I will keep with that plan. If I have plateaued, then I'll add another aspect - journaling food, cutting calories, etc. The preparing breakfasts worked great for me last week. I baked muffins on Sunday and took that and a yogurt to eat on the train to work every morning. Much better than my addiction of McGriddles every morning.

Go for it!! We're all behind you 100%. :cheer2:

What do you think of my new signature that Deb made for me? Somehow I don't think Minnie did me justice. Do you think that she's setting too ambitious of a goal for me?
Good luck to all.

Hey, a girl can always dream!

Help,
I'm trying to talk Deb into doing the 1/2. She says we cant take the kids out of school. I say it's ok, they aren't old enough to participate anyway. I think we should let the kids stay with Grammy for a couple of days and sneak down for the walk. I think I'm going to need some help from some of her friends on the "boards".
Chris

I think that's a great idea, Deb! You'd have to have someone to watch the kids during the 1/2 anyway. This would give you and Chris a great excuse for some time away, plus an additional motivator for exercise. I would vote to go for it!!

As far as progress on weightloss, I've been extremely diligent on dieting. I work as an auto mechanic so I'm not around food at all during the day. I've even started working through lunch and drinking a gallon of water while at work everyday. It's more of a challenge for me to bring something to eat during the day in order to keep my metabolism going.
As far as exercising, I've convinced Deb that "sexercise" counts. Other than that I'm not too motivated yet. I do intend to do more. I wore a pedometer at work and average 10000 to 12000 step a day. I know that in order to lose weight I need to increase activity, but that proves that I am very active each day.
Chris

Is there a record for the most replies to a single post by the same person? I don't know why I divided this up, but it was just easier...

I am with you on the exercise, Chris. Like you, I walk about 10-12,000 steps a day already, with the exception of Sundays. Granted, sometimes in the winter I don't walk all four legs of my work commute, but I still get pretty close on steps. Now to help lose weight I have to figure out how to do more and have the desire to do it. We have an exercise bike, but it is in Phil's office so that Terra doesn't use it as her own personal jungle gym. (I have an almost 3yo who thinks that she's Indy Jones.)

When I get home from work at 1pm, that is supposed to be Phil's time to go into his office and work or go to bed if he stayed up an wrote all night. I think that I'm going to just get past the easy excuse that it's Phil's time to work/sleep and take 30 mins or so as soon as I get home to go in and ride the bike. Hey, he does have it set up right in front of the computer so I could use that time to DIS too. Hmmm...there's an idea. I think that is going to be my goal this week. 30 minutes of bike riding as soon as I get home from work and before Phil's stay-at-home-dad duty is over.

Hey all

well I got myself into a big old mess today :rotfl:

I was telling my dad who HATES WDW that I was planning on doing the 1/2 marathon walking

he sees no reason why I can't do it running and threw out the challenge - we will train togehter (he already runs) and if I keep with him running a 10 minute mile pace for the first four miles - he will pay for my ticket to the marathon but if I don't - I have to pay for his

so he is going to WDW and my kids and nieces and nephew now know that I hold the key to their greatest wish - Papa at WDW

so I guess the stakes are upped a bit now!!! :rotfl2:

Alrighty now, I'm caught up so here's my update...

I have found the #1 problem area for me...Saturdays! I am really going to have to plan ahead for Saturdays it looks like. On Saturdays, Terra and I usually leave the house around 9 or 10. On a good day, we are home by 6, but often it is closer to 8 or 9. Saturdays are our big "go do something fun day" since I work during the week and we have to go do laundry and grocery shop on Sundays.

Yesterday we went to the mall and Chuck E Cheese. Despite a pretty good week of healthy eating, yesterday I ate a Mrs. Fields cookie w/ icing, 4 pieces of CEC pizza, 2 Target cookies and had a large Dr Pepper. Somehow, I don't think the walking around the mall, from the mall to CEC and back again combated that. On top of that I left without my water bottle and never thought to stop and buy some.

Now while I'm trying not to beat myself up too much over yesteday, I do realize that this is going to be an ongoing occurance if I don't plan ahead. Most Saturdays are spent eating out somewhere and not usually somewhere with many healthier options. I can't decide if I should be planning what to take with us or plan to eat places that offer healthier fare.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for healthier breakfast options when eating out. On Sunday's Terra and I always go get breakfast while we're doing laundry. In order to keep her from losing it on me, we go to breakfast while the clothes are in the dryer...this helps keep her sane enough to hang out at the laundry mat for the rest of the process. I had been eating Eggs Benedict every morning, but know that's not good for me.

He certainly threw down the gauntlet didn't he? Don't worry, I know that you can do it. You've got dozens of your closest "friends" behind you! What a great way to celebrate - a trip with the whole family.

Everybody has their good days and their bad days. As for breakfast ideas perhaps just egg whites or egg beaters, fruit, whole wheat toast, oatmeal, whole grain pancakes, grits, yogurt or smoothies, an omelette with egg whites/egg beaters with veggies in it, maybe some lo-fat cheese.

I don't know if this will help or not, but for breakfast if it is a sit down type place you might be able to get an egg beater omelet, which has to be less than eggs benedict. As far as eating out, Wendy's is good for fast food because their grilled chicken sandwich and a small chili, or a plain baked potato with chili tastes really good, and is low cal. Applebee's has a weight watcher menu, and all of those choices aren't too bad.

Another good resource for restaurants for me is a website I learned through weight watchers. It is www.dwlz.com. The link for the restaurants is this: http://www.dwlz.com/Restaurants/1allrestaurants.html

It has lots of restaurants, and shows weight watcher points, but it also shows calories, fat and fiber content. I use this if I know where I will be eating out to plan ahead of time what to order when I get there. That way I don't get as tempted to order something not so good for me if I plan ahead and set my mind on what I will be eating before I get to the restaurant.

I hope this helps.

Kim, When do we officially start with the Discovery Challenge? DO you know what we need to do or any other info?
The official kick-off will be on Saturday, the 14th. It seems that they're adding more and more functionality to the site day-by-day. I didn't see a place to enter starting weight/measurements, but they now have a BMI calculator.

Well, after DH and I discussed it for a little while, I checked on the room situation. There are no on-site rooms left, and the website suggested the Sheraton and Marriott for BIG $$$ a night. I'm hoping we can snag a cancellation.

We're still keeping our fingers crossed that DFIL (retiring this summer) will be able to watch our kids at our house when we go to DL.

Between the scarcity of rooms and the HUGE favor we're asking DFIL for, I don't know that we can plan this for this year. :sad1: But I'll be sure to keep you posted if things change.

Kate, good luck with meeting your 10-minute mile goal! That would be fabulous!
