DDA Chapter 3

Glynis, BBQ chips! You're a culinary genius! Seriously, you need to be the Food Network's next big star!

See you all soon! :)

Or at least Food Network's next big faker! I'm really good at trying out recipes from magazines and then tweaking them to suit my family. Not so good at just making something up!

My dad did "dream" a cookie once though. It was a really vivid dream, so he got up in the middle of the night and tried it out, and they turned out really good!

I have gotten rid of the kids from hades! My house is not too wrecked, so I'm pretty happy! I do have 4 very cranky kids, however. They spent the last 2 nights staying up too late with their cousins. Looks like we'll have dinner and then to an early bed for them! Good thing, too! Alan brought home the movie Catch and Release to watch. I'm looking forward to it.

Amy - it's been great actually being online the same time you are! That doesn't seem to happen too much lately. Just like old times, eh?

Tia, don't be so hard on yourself. I wouldn't think that Terra would have the energy to play outside or the appetite to eat dinner and two yummy desserts if she feels too terrible. Hopefully her coughing will subside, and a doctor's visit won't be necessary. :wizard:

Well said!!

I was just thinking about Aidan the other day. Glad to hear he is doing well!

Lucy needs to just stop right where she is instead of picking up that nasty habit of growing like a weed that all the other kids have! ;)

Tia - Don't feel bad! The air is dry and her throat is probably just tickling. I agree that if she had enough energy to run around and wanted to make dessert she isn't feeling too horrible!
When DS had chicken pox DH took him outside to play ball the 3rd day he was home from school. He got overheated and ended up vomiting and feeling worse than he had the whole time he had been sick. I was NOT very happy with DH, but DS was fine a couple of days later.

I wish I could just bottle her up.

My little one is just a bit cranky. It is my DH who is the crank and a half! Don't know if he's not feeling well or if he's just had enough of winter but it is getting old!

:wizard: that the crankiness goes away sooner rather than later.

Speaking of recipes, I invented one of my own last night. I had potato chips in the house, and for me, that is bad. I can eat a bag in two sittings. I love chips! I've been known to crush party chip leftovers and dump the crumbs in the garage to avoid eating them! :rotfl:

Anyway, I crushed a half bag of chips, added a little pepper, and I used this mixture, instead of bread crumbs for baked chicken nuggets. I beat an egg and added a little milk to make a binding agent. Baked the nuggets for 20 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping once.

A little salty, but pretty tasty. The kids approved, too.

Sounds good. I was never a chip person until I was pregnant with Lucy. Now I can't stay away from them.

Robyn - We have tried to go to Gay Days twice and it just hasn't worked out. Last year I even had the room booked but the airfare was way too high so I canceled it. I can't remember if I have been to Lucky's for breakfast or not. I know I have been there for dinner. The lady in their corporate office who handles charitable donations was always so nice when I would call her about the AIDS walk that our whole committee went there one evening.
What does Joe do? Maybe I can scout around and help him with some networking!

He worked for Fannie May and just took a buyout in the spring or summer. Now he is a masseuse.

Ummm....I used enough and for just about as long as it should cook.. ;) I really don't remember. It was on low for about...7-8 hours...and I bought a family pack of pork tenderloin and used a third of it.
I hope that helps some!

Why don't you bring the deviled eggs AND what you want? If there is doubles of something...too bad! :teeth:

Sounds about how I cook.

So, talking about recipes, we had tomato soup for dinner last night with sandwiches. I usually just do grilled cheese sandwiches, but I tried 2 new sammies last night. The first one was sharp cheddar with granny smith apples (my mom used to do this, but I've never made them for my family), and the kids loved them! I was so surprised! The second was for Alan and me. I loved these and will make them again.

Grilled Cream Cheese Sandwiches

Butter 2 slices of bread. Spread cream cheese approximately 1/2 inch thick on unbuttered side of bread. Put another slice of bread on top and butter the top side. Grill like you would a cheese sandwich. This was so rich, that I wouldn't do these for the kids. I don't think they would like them, but Alan and I did! They were wonderful dunked in the soup!

The movie is over...bath time!

Elizabeth, good luck making your ADRs in the morning!

Karen, tell us about your new job some time soon! ;)

Hope everyone (especially cranky DH's) feel better soon!

Love the Valentine pics!! Too cute. :goodvibes

Great job Chanon!:thumbsup2

Glad you survived, the house too! I loved Catch and Release.

We've been during Gay Days and the crowds were outrageous, that was a few years ago and they are worse now. :scared1: It took us an hour and forty five minutes for Splash.

Those both sound delicious. It's a good thing I am full and too tired to cook.

I know I have asked this before, but when you are going to a party or cookout and you are asked to bring a dish.
Do you get to pick the dish you want to bring or are you told what to bring?

Tomorrow is a cousin's 50th birthday party and I have been told as always to bring deviled eggs. Guess I should be happy that they are so popular.

Heidi,

I think that is a high compliment they asked you to bring your deviled eggs.

The first time I was asked to bring my potato salad and then one of my kid's friends came up to me and asked if I had indeed brought my potato salad and then the look on her face when I said yes was priceless. She said she loved it and hoped I was bringing it. Now the friends all tease me that if I didn't bring my potato salad, they would be very disappointed.

Wow - will she get an employee discount?!

I could see how much easier the creative process could be! :rotfl:

So, what are you doing to your AKL reservation?

She doesn't know about the employee discount... :rotfl: But she did mention that every single woman she saw had on extraordinary diamond jewelry. Since she and Kristin don't like diamonds very much (silly fools) I guess I will be forced to have to wear any that she receives. I wonder how high I can stack those rings on my fingers?? :confused3

I have booked a savanna-view Club Level room but it is at rack rate as there were no AAA discounts available on those rooms. Bob and I started talking about what we really wanted to do on this trip. We will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary (a couple of months late, but we can't get away in July this year) so we talked about how to best splurge on this shorter trip.

We both decided there are some amazing signature restaurants we would love to experience so have decided this will be the "September to Remember" definitive food and beverage trip. We are having Chanon book a savanna-view room with the Deluxe Dining package. Even if free dining is an option, I think the AAA discount on the room will offset that cost and make it about the same. (Chanon: I am assuming that Club Level is not available for the discounted AAA package either, but if it is we probably need to talk again... :rotfl: )

We will have a total of 24 TS and 16 snack credits to use for the 5 days we are there. That way we can eat an early breakfast at Boma (or somewhere else, including room service if we wish), use our two snack credits at the F&W Festival booths and then have a late dinner at any restaurant we want (including in-room dining and excluding V&A and Bistro, I think). Everything except the gratuities and alcohol will be paid for already. We won't have to think about the budget if we want to eat lobster at $55 pp or a $20 appetizer that might appeal to one of us.

Good idea Tia, thanks.

If it's your family, I'd just tell them one time that you would like to bring something different for a change. Assure them that you will make the eggs again, but would like have a chance to bring something else that time.

Glad you survived, if you have any sugar free, low carb recipes I sure could use some. We have meat and a green vegetable every night, I made mac and cheese with wheat noodles last night, it wasn't horrible, but I used low fat cheese and it lacked flavor.

Here's another Scapbook page,

buzz-1.gif

Debbie - I LOVE Barilla whole wheat pasta with Omega 3 something or other...It tastes really good! I'll see what recipes I have here for you too.

ETA: I forgot to mention! Another great scrapbooking page!

Glynis thanks for the recipes!

Chanon great job on the picture!

Boy isn't that the truth. One year another cousin had to leave the cookout because his daughter forgot something and by the time he got back the eggs were gone. He freaked.
Heidi, I've found that sometimes when you make something people really like, you get "stuck" making it for years to come. If I were you, I'd make the deviled eggs, and I'd make something I want to make/bring too. :teeth:
Another good idea, thanks Amy.

I was thinking of getting the stuff to make a chili cheese dip, and the chips.

I say go for it! It is always nice to bring something different & something you yourself will enjoy.
