DDA Chapter 3

Anne Marie (and anyone else who knows...) -- Can you tell me something about the location of the CL rooms at BC? Are any of them close to Epcot?

Good morning, Chatty DDA! :)

thanks Elizabeth When do they release park hrs?

They should release them Feb.1. I put my schedule together using the July hours and the hours from our trip last year.

Glad it made it. I was a little worried after your posts about your mail delivery.

There is definitely no reason to what shows up and what doesn't. We still have no ID cards for our vision insurance. :confused3
Did you get the pins?

I stopped at the Talbots outlet on my way home from work. The prices were the same as the retail store. I did find Joe a nice navy sweater and then I went to the Old Navy. Their clearance priced items were another 50% off. I got Joe another pair of cords ($4.75), a long sleeve polo ($4), a nice rugby shirt ($4), a rugby with thermal sleeves ($4), really nice zip hoodie ($4.75), a long sleeve "Old Navy" T ($2.50) and 2 long sleeve T's for Lizzy ($1.50 each).

I never go to Old Navy because the only one around is at the Galleria. It is big and always seems disorganized. The only thing DS could really use more of is pants for school, and those are hard to find on clearance.
I will plan for breakfast at CP on the 16th.:) That will be nice since it will be our last day in the parks!

yes because she would know :lmao:

Thanks I did remember reading that the pics had to be claimed by one person.

Elizabeth, Bernadette and Janet are eating at Cape May on the 14th right?

Yes, dinner on the 14th and you are more than welcome to join us! :goodvibes
I haven't decided what to do about a PhotoPass CD yet.

glad you found us Jo

Hi, Jo! :)

I'm still hacking my head off. I felt better today and less coughing, but now I think it is worse then before, plus I am sneezing now too.:confused3 :confused3

Feel better, Becky! :wizard:

:lmao: That reminds me of Caddyshack! :lmao:

Ha ha ha! :rotfl2: Maybe Chanon should hand out groundhogs with her golf balls!:lmao:

I agree. And I haven't even told you that Emmitt Smith's kids attend the school my kids go to... :goodvibes Another plus for big D!

I didn't know that! (No reason that I would know that, I guess. :rotfl: )

those of you that have traveled with small children before hpw many outfits did you take for a 8 day/7 night trip? I am working on my packing list.

DS isn't small, but I pack 2 outfits per day for him.

Jen I think at some point we have all felt like this. When you least expect it, you will find your one & only :goodvibes

Jen, I got married at 22 and had DS at 25. But the trend around here is to get married around 30 and not have your first child until 35 or older! I don't regret doing it the way I did, but I can see how there might have been advantages to waiting, too.

thanks Deb I had put 14 outfits on Virginia's list It looks lik I might have to do laundry while their

I try to avoid laundry, but with a 2 week trip I think it will be unavoidable.:scared:

so the girl ears are clear and their lungs are clear.

but since Olivia had a little bit of wheezing in Oct. and then a lot with this cold/bronchitis she had this past month the dr wants to put her on preventive astma meds twice a day breathing treatments till may.

and now headed to bed so I can work tomorrow

DS had to take an oral antihitamine and use an inhaler with a spacer twice a day when he was her age. It wasn't too bad.

Well, today is the big birthday outing for DS and his friends! I talked to his one friend's mom last night so at least 2 of the 3 boys are definitely going to be there. I think the 3rd one will be there, too, as long as the dad doesn't back out on dropping him off. The mom said if the dad wouldn't bring their DS that she would go get him and bring him herself, so we'll see.

I guess I need to decide if we are going to give DS his new Wii game today. He really isn't allowed to play video games during the week, so he would probably appreciate having it today! ;)

Leighanna got up and said that her throat felt a little funny too. She seems to be doing better.
She is sad that she is home from school today.
Today is library day, and she loves library day!
She has a Chic a Chic a Boom Boom book that she needs to return. I told her that she can return it next week.

I'm sorry that she's missing library day! Those were always my favorite day, too! I began reading when I was 2 and a half years old, and by the time I was in kindergarten, my reading level was WAY ahead of the other kids. My teacher was not about to bore me with the reading the other kids were doing, so she sent me to the library quite a lot! I became really good friends with the librarian!!!

Could Leighanna take her book in on another day? I know that my kid's librarian will let the kids come in before school, during lunch and after school to return and check out new books if it's not their assigned library day.

Glynis - I finished The Amber Spyglass. I wasn't thrilled with the middle - it was very bulky, if that makes sense. There were too many things going on for too many pages. But I thought it was pretty good. I liked the first book best! And all the negative propaganda that came out when the movie was released wasn't even accurate! There might have been a little bit of an atheist slant to it, but there was so much fantasy and sci-fi type stuff in there the average child would have to work really hard to extract any of those meanings from the text. Just my 2 cents. :) Now I don't know what I will read.

I'm happy to see the boards running more quickly today :thumbsup2 yesterday was frustrating.

So Nick really made me angry yesterday. He had many assignments that had been given to him on Monday or earlier that he had put off. I didn't know about any of them until about 6:30 last night when he started stressing. Mind you I started telling him to do homework as soon as he walked through the door at 3 PM  He had a few smaller assignments that he finished first then he announced that he had to make a map for social studies. It needed to show the "topography" of Canada along with all the Provinces and capitals. So we start Googling Canadian topography maps. That was not what he needed. On to Geographic maps...nope that didn't look familiar either. After blowing my top from asking him for the umteenth time what he actually was looking for and only getting the response. I need the map that is in the World Atlas at school with the different colors. Obviously he didn't bring the map home and we don't own a World Atlas and the maps that I pulleed up from their site didn't look right. I had him call a friend from class who was just planning to name the mountains and plains, but really didn't know what the teacher wanted either. By now Chris had been dragged into the situation and he and I were both raging mad. How can you not know what your assignment was. Why was it not written down especially since he had had it since Monday. I finally called the teacher who was not at all happy that I was calling her at home and could not fathum why this was a problem at 7:30 the night before it was due as he had had all week to do it. I explained that he had drawn the country, added the provinces, capitals and had saved the regions (as it turns out) for last and that he could not bring the atlas home. After she settled down it turned out that he had a map in his folder that had the regions identified:headache: Sure enough he had a study guide for another assignment that showed exactly the information that he needed. Oh yeah, I had shown him at least 20 other maps with the same information  So he finally got the map done around 8 PM and started to read the book that should have been finished on Wednesday. Did we know about this...of course not. I had even been on him Wednesday night to get extra homework done as Thursdays tend to have more homework. He insisted that he didn't have anything that he could do. So when I asked him last night why he didn't work on it on Wednesday he said that the dentist told him to take it easy. (Insert smilie with my head hitting the ceiling) Apparantly reading isn't taking it easy. By this point I was far too angry to be in the same room as him let alone help him. So he started reading. He was on page 60 of a 196 page book. An hour later he was on page 80. Apparently he reads about 20 pages per hour as at 10 PM he was on page 100. At that pace he should get the book read by 3 AM. He was already asking if he could just go to sleep. Um no...he would pull an all nighter if he had to as he put himself in that predicament. So Chris and I discuss punishment as it would be huge. No friends for the rest of the month, no video games for the rest of the month and loss of tv for one day for each hour he is late going to bed. I was feeling better as I added on consequences :rolleyes1 A hot bath and I had calmed down. I ended up reading the book to him from 10:15 to 12:30 when it was done. So this weekend he will write the entire book report and type it or I will cause him physical harm. He will also read another book to be ahead for the next report. Afterall he will have nothing better to do with his time.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Wow! Poor mom and dad!!! Katie has been doing the same thing lately. I don't know why she puts things off until the last minute, as she gets really stressed out and then turns on the waterworks. I saw this happening last term, and so this term I am on great email terms with her teacher. I email her every morning, asking her what homework Katie will come home with. That way, I'm armed and dangerous by the time she walks through the door after school.

I just wish that Jacob's teachers were that good about communicating! He has a duo of teacher's that ignore their emails, and don't return calls. Luckily, Jacob is a bit more responsible with his homework. Here's knocking on wood that he stays that way!

So, what was the book? Was it worth reading?

I read a little bit about strep and the rash that Colby had. Apparently he had scarlet fever. The doctor may have mentioned that, but there was a lot to absorb. We are over the worst of it as the raging rash that looked that the worst sunburn I have EVER seen has lightened up and doesn't seem to be so hot. I was apply aloe to his hiney about every hour to cool and sooth the area. Now unfortunately the area is completely peeling :sad2: He says that it itches and I bet it does. I really hope that he is completely over this my Monday.

I haven't worked in over a week with everything that has been going on. I was glad that I called them before the schedule was done and had them hold off on scheduling me until the end of the week. I will work tonight and it will be nice to get out of here :rolleyes1 I could use a little peace and quiet for a night. I don't work this weekend, but will go back to a normal schedule next week.

Yikes! Scarlet fever!!! That conjures up images from Little House on the Prairie!

Have you tried soaking him in an oatmeal bath? Aveeno makes a really good one that is very soothing for itchy, peeling skin.

I'm glad that we post stories about our kids here. It is so nice to know that we are not alone in these situations. I was venting to my mother last night and she just kept saying how lazy he is. I agree. She also pointed out that he would not be an A student if I wasn't pushing him every step of the way. I want him to do well and be successful. Right now he doesn't want to go to college, but I anticipate at some point he will want to and what he does now is the foundation for that. I guess I'll just keep pushing him. What ever happened to just wanting to make Mom happy :rotfl:

You are an amazing mother, Deb!!! Nick will realize that at some point, and will be thankful that you push him the way you do. Sometimes I think we want things for our children that they don't, but in this case you are 100% right! Bless you for playing momma bear with him!

I think that we are still going to head out West this summer, but we have been toying with a week at the beginning of August in WDW instead. I have to find out about the Fall sports schedule, but I think we need to be home by the middle of the month.

I need to run to the grocery store. I don't want to go there...

Beth

Come West, Beth!!! Theresa and I would love to have you here!!! Lots of fun stuff to see in our neck of the woods!!!

Chanon, the background is definitely darker than the proof. You can read your names, but the date gets a little lost in the background!
I would send them back and get them reprinted with a lighter background.

I agree with Tom. I could make out your names, but not the date.

I did and I don't even feel a year older!

Sounds like the perfect birthday, good to see you.

Good Morning DDA,

We went out to dinner last night, DH said we needed to try it and see if I oculd find something suitable on the menu. Well, was that ever a disaster. I ended up eating my salad, and leaving everything else. I tried the mashed cauliflower as a substitute for potatos, YUCK! And the green beans had no flavor, I told DH that I would be better off cooking at home, at least there I can use alternate seasonings to give the food some flavor.

We'll try again but not anytime soon.

Chanon - do you think we should go ahead and apply for passports if we are going on a cruise in May? I know you don't need them right now, but they say that may change as early as this summer. DD has decided on the cruise for her Graduation trip.

i just have to say January has sucked. y'all know about my dad having hernia surgery. that went fine. once dad got home mom had the stomach bug for about a week. my older brother came home for a wedding this passed weekend and we were going to celebrate out birthdays(by the way i still haven't gotten my birthday cake, but he did and what he wanted to eat). well Saturday we were going to go out to eat. Saturday around 2 in the morning i got so sick. i must have had the stomach thing too. i felt horrible Saturday and Sunday. Monday dad had an eye appointment and he had a cyst removed from his eye lid, so he came home with one eye. Tuesday i had a check up with my neurologist(everything is fine) still wasn't feeling 100% but better. got home and found out dad had to get blood work done again because his potassium in his heart is high, grandmother is back in the hospital for the 4 time in 4 months and then dads foot was hurting so bad that he couldn't bear weight on it. he went to the doctor and he has gout. Thursday i was still not feeling well and it was making me uneasy because i thought i might be going into respiratory distress again and didn't want that happening. as mom and i were talking we decided its me probably inhaling to much air at night under my bypap because i had stomach pains and all it was was burps or gas(sorry to much info). yesterday was an ok day. then we find out today my grandmothers condition is now grave. so 2 hours earlier we were trying to determine what to do with me. my dad is her power of attorney and he cant drive still and needs to be up there. i wanted to go but then i didn't because there is nothing i can do so i decide to stay here. when she passes she is having her body donated to science so there will be no services or anything so if she does die why be up there. i love her and will miss her dearly but she has been in pain for 4 months and the same cycle happens so she is better off. i so need some good news which i might have next week. if dad didn't need to go up today i would have found out today.

Karen - it sounds like you could use a hug! Sorry I can't be there to give you one in person.

I was looking for autograph designs and watching minute men

Katie and Jacob loved Minute Men! I only got to see the last bit of it. When is it going to be on again?

Texas does have lots of space. I bet you want me to put in a good word for you now at the school. ;)

Don't worry about you ex. If he's bragging, it probably means there is really nothing to brag about -- or he wouldn't be texting you!

I agree with Marci! Sounds to me like he's trying to convince himself that he's better than you are. Remember what Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission."

For my May trip I have decided that I am not going to plan ahead for anything, I am just going to wing it! The only sit down food I will have is breakfast with Bernadette. I have the park hours down & when I wake up I will just go wherever. This could be interesting :rotfl:

Call me crazy, but for a solo trip that sounds just perfect!

I completely agree with you! That's exactly the way I felt. I was really angry with the negative stuff being said about the books/movie. I feel like parents should read the books and form their own opinions rather than letting someone else do it for them.

Have you read "The Book Thief?" Fabulous book!!!

Caught up!!!! It was kind of nice to have so much chatter to catch up on!

Beth - it's so nice to see you popping in. Here's hoping the ball and the meet both go well, and that Laura doesn't burn her candle too hard at both ends!

Marti - How fun to see you popping in again! I hope you'll make a habit of it! I really miss your sense of humor!

Elizabeth - Well, Katie is in the middle of her science project. She and her partner are studying how ingredients work together to create bread. They are baking 4 loaves. One as the recipe states, one without salt, one without yeast, and one with only part of the flour. I was not crazy about the project, but at least I don't have to do anything except contribute the camera for the pictures they will take. The other mom bakes bread every day, so she's helping them with that! I really wanted them to do something very cool, but my SIL told me that the bread thing would be fine. Last year's district winner project was "What design of paper airplane flies longest."

DH and I went to Cheesecake Factory last night with our really good friends. It was so much fun! We had a wait of about an hour and a half, so we spent part of that time cruising the mall next door, and just talking. Once we were seated, we ordered the hot spinach and cheese dip, and an order of buffalo blasts for appetizers. Very yummy!!!

DH had the Cobb salad, our neighbors had a bacon and avocado club sandwich and grilled salmon (respectively) and I had the Romano crusted chicken. So incredibly yummy!!! Thanks for all the warnings about the size of the portions! I have enough for lunch and dinner today, and probably tomorrow as well!

The cheesecake was to die for, as well! I ordered the Lemon Raspberry Cream Cheesecake, DH had the Brownie sundae cheesecake, Carol had the White Chocolate Raspberry, and Scott had the Chocolate Tuxedo. So amazing! We all shared bites of each others, and still had plenty to bring some home! It was such a fun night! We love going out with Scott and Carol! We have similar likes, and it makes for some fun conversation!

Nothing much planned for today. The kids are cleaning their rooms, and I'm cleaning around the house, and catching up on my journal entries. Nothing too exciting!
