Tis the season Bernadette. And an A-133 audit at that! YAY me!!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:
:eek:I don't really get involved in those. We are a non profit that does government contract work. I might have to help out with a few questions but nothing too bad. We had a change in staff at one of the federal agencies we work with and it has been a nightmare!!!!

We just won a HUGE contract to develop training for emergency responders to electronic vehicle fires. So now that agency (not sure which one it is) will be our primary instead of the difficult new person so many folks in my office are very happy about that!!!!

You know if I were you I might be tempted to stay in Orlando!!!!

theirs a family that could use some prayers tonight. One of the ladies that works on the same floor with me. Her sister was out jogging this morning and was hit by a car. She died from injuries. She had 3 young kids.
Oh no. Very sad. :sad1:

Good morning, DDA!

Believe me I would if I could... but I need to get back to make money for my cruise...:yay::woohoo:

Happy birthday to me! We got up early, had breakfast in the lounge and then were told to meet in the lobby for the Sunrise Safari. It was COLD out, frost was on the ground. They gave us blankets to take on the safari, one for 2 people. Thank goodness because it would have been brutal without them. While we were waiting to leave, I snapped some pictures.

This is my favorite! It wasn't posed either. I pecked him just as I saw the light on the camera.

We had a very nice guide on the Safari. His name was Greg and he is the Curator for AKL. I'm not going to go into a lot of details, but he gave us great information and told incredible stories, mostly about how AK works with, trains, and cares for the animals. Amazing. As we started off the sun was low in the sky and it was turning into quite a nice morning. This was the most active that I have ever seen the hippos. They were walking/swimming all over the place. Most of the time they are just a big blob.

The lion was pacing back and forth, looking for the female, who was still inside, having her breakfast. She finally came out after awhile.

Afterwards we had a buffet breakfast in the back room of the Pizzafari. It was yummy! We said goodbye to our new friends and headed out to explore. First stop, Alyssa wanted to visit with Lilo and Stitch. They played around with her, pulling her hat down over her eyes.

Then it was off to EE, where we rode standby. We tried to get a FP for this at the centralized place right next to ITTBAB, but they had all of those machines closed. One of the many drawbacks of traveling during low season, I guess.

DisneyJan10167.jpg

From here we headed to Dinoland where we rode TS and Dinosaur. As we were heading out of Dinoland there was a meet & greet for Pluto and Goofy. The line wasn't bad and Alyssa loves Goofy, so we got in line. Now, I should say here that the night before we were discussing our plans for today and what we would do in AK. Alyssa asked if we would be staying for the parade. Since we would be up so early for the Safari and I knew it would be a long day, my response was, verbatim, "The only way we will stay for the parade is if we are IN the parade." Who knew? So, we are in line for Goofy. Nicholas spots the handler, who has a green lanyard on (trading with kids only). So Nicholas is bobbing and peeking around all the people in line trying to figure out if there are any pins on his lanyard worth trading for. The handler sees Nicholas doing this and starts playing around, everytime Nicholas would get in position for a view, the handler would move so Nicholas couldn't see. As we get closer the handler tells Goofy and Pluto "5 more minutes" and I worry that we will make it before they leave for break. We made it and the handler announces that we are the last family and they will be back blah, blah, blah. We all interact with the characters, I get kisses for my bday, we snap a few pics, etc etc and then the handler ushers them away. He stops, however, because he knew Nicholas had been eyeing his lanyard. He makes small talk with us, says we look like a "happy bunch" (we repeated this phrase several times throughout the day), asked us if there were just the 4 of us. When he said this a light bulb went off in my mind, but I tried not to expect anything. Then he asked if we were going to watch the afternoon parade. Now I knew it was coming. We of course said yes. Then he asked us if we would want to watch the parade or be IN the parade. The kids exploded with excitement. I did my best to contain mine. So he took down some info from us, told us where to be at what time and said he would see us then. We felt like celebrities! So off we went trying to figure out the rest of our day.

Morning DDA. Off to church, then to brunch, then football.

Have a great day DDA!:dance3:

We did, however, have a logistical problem. Tonight was my birthday dinner at Yachtsman, at 6PM. The parade started at 4:45. There was no way would would make it, using Disney transpo, by 6. (The car was at AKL because we took the safari bus this morning). So we decided that we would head back to AKL and enjoy the resort some, and then drive back to AK in time for the parade. We had some snacks in the lounge and then walked around to some of the lookouts, talking with the CMs about the animals. The warthogs were by far my favorite. This turned out to be the nicest day, weather-wise, of our trip. By afternoon we only needed 2 layers, as opposed to 5, all the other days.

We drove back over to AK in time for the 3PM FOTLK show. I was surprised at how many people were leaving the park. We were joking that the park would be empty by the time the parade started and that nobody would be around to see our big debut! We had some time to kill before the parade so we watched ITTBAB and then mosied up to Africa. The kids stopped to drum for awhile.

DisneyJan10198.jpg

Finally it was time to head to our meeting point, back next to the safari. We were so excited!

DisneyJan10199.jpg

Fer, the handler, met us and 4 other families. We were escorted backstage, one family at a time, and outfitted with our safari gear. Fer explained that the only place that we were allowed to take pictures was right where they we got our gear. What a fun experience to be back there where the CMs and floats are lining up, and seeing the logistics of how the parade starts off behind the scenes.

Fer told us that as we entered the park he would be taking pictures of us with a disposable camera and then the camera would be handed off to us. He snapped maybe 6-7 pictures. Then we were instructed by a photopass photographer that they would be stationed at 3 different locations throughout the parade to take our picture and we would get the photopass card. He rattled off the locations but my mind was racing and I only remembered "before you cross the bridge into Asia". They made sure we saw them, though, at each location. We were then handed off to 2 CMs that would be behind us, dancing, during the parade. They escorted us to our float, the tiger, told us how to smile and wave. They even tried to teach Nicholas the Prince wave. Before long we were buckled into our float, waiting for the parade to begin. Donald was atop his float right behind us, and of course, being very naughty. He was ringing and ringing his bell and when we would turn around to look he would stop immediately and give those 'what?', 'not me', 'I'm not doing anything' hand gestures. Soon we were off. I leaned over and told the kids to really enjoy and remember this, it's probably a once in a lifetime experience, and we'll never see any of these people again so don't be afraid to act silly. After we got through the doors I took lots of pictures of the crowds and CMs. The first thing we saw as we entered the park. There WERE still people there!

The end.

DisneyJan10237.jpg

They got us off of our float and collected our gear. We were allowed to stand on the curb backstage and watch the rest of the parade as it exited the park. After many thank yous to all of the CMs, it was time to leave. What a thrilling experience!

We headed out of the park quickly to head over to the Yacht Club. We were a little late but we didn't care! After a few minutes wait we were seated. I asked for Ricardo, Elizabeth's favorite waiter, but he was back home on vacation. I can't remember the name of the lady we got. This is one of those restaurants that I've "been there, done that, don't need to do it again." The food was very good but it was rather stuffy. We had much better experiences at Citrico's and FF. I was wished happy birthday by the waitress, but that was it. I saw others celebrating bday's get a small cake with candle. Could it be that we were all wearing sweatshirts and jeans, after a day in the park? Unfortunately our day didn't let us become more "restaurant appropriate". Oh well. No worries. I had the best birthday ever!

Tammi, I am sorry Ricardo wasn't at Yachtsman that night! I really do think the server makes the meal. Your waitress sounds like the guy we had at Narcoosee's on my birthday. At Yachtsman I had a personalized menu, and a little birthday cupcake. At Narcoosee's the waiter said (as a complete afterthought) "It's your birthday, right?"

I am glad to hear your food was good, because we definitely hit it on a bad night in December.

Tammi,
What a great perspective seeing the parade from your float!! How exciting for you!!!

Tammi - your birthday looks like it was just wonderful. A chance of a lifetime, for certain!

theirs a family that could use some prayers tonight. One of the ladies that works on the same floor with me. Her sister was out jogging this morning and was hit by a car. She died from injuries. She had 3 young kids.

How sad! Prayers said.

Deb - Yikes on the surgery amount! Hooray for insurance!!! Most of all, Hooray that Hunter is ok!!!

Tammi - Your birthday sounds amazing!!! What an experience. Thanks for all the pictures. You all looked so happy! I love the pictures of you all before the safari! It's so cool to hear about your parade experience. What an awesome birthday present!!!

Well, I'm trying to wrestle the kids into church clothes, while trying to decide if I'm going to make it or not. I have a really sore throat! No fever, but I'm not sure if I want to push it. I may just take the kids over and pick them up afterwards. The church is one block from our house, so it wouldn't be too bad to do that. I could make them walk, but it's really cold here.

I've got dinner in the crock pot, and I'm hoping it turns out well. White chicken chili. The recipe called for a can of white hominy (which I love) along with the beans. Cross your fingers that it turns out well. I'll make some biscuits to go along with it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Jennifer prayers for your co-worker & family.

Vicki yay for the Globetrotter tickets!

Tammi love the pic of you giving Nicholas a kiss on the cheek, sounds like you had a wonderful birthday.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Tammi, looks like your birthday was grand!:hippie:

Jen, sorry about the game.:grouphug::grouphug:
