okay so at work we have to do our schedule 2 months in advance. So I am already thinking of Halloween. Since its on a Sat. this year I am thinking of having a Halloween party for the kids.

So what would be your favorite party game adapted to Halloween. Their are so many its hard to decide.

Also got any ideas on how you would make a haunted house. and do cute decorations cheaply?

Very nice, Deb!

Elizabeth - glad you got the schedule sorted out. Sort of.

Tomorrow night Nicholas has a friend sleeping over. Well, maybe. According to his mom, he has given it valiant efforts, but he has never made it through the night at a sleepover. They've always gotten a call around midnight to go pick him up because he wants to go home. Any ideas or suggestions on how I can make this little guy comfortable and relaxed enough to not want to go home? I want to be the winning Mom! ;)

Never had that problem with kids who stayed with us... we had trouble getting them to go home. But I had to go get both our girls once or twice. I hope this sleepover is the one that "works!"

I would just keep him extremely busy from the time he gets there. Try to wear him out and keep him distracted. Find out from Mom if he has a special bedtime routine or anything they do at home to get him to calm down and relax before bed that you could do a your house.

Does he sleep at home with a fan, special blanket, stuffed animal, nightlight on, pillow or something else that you could replicate at your house? If he has a special pillow, stuffed animal blanket, etc encourage Mom to bring it along. I would also give him time to familiarize himself with where he will be sleeping while it is still light out if possible, so he can see it is not a scary place. Maybe even explore that area while Mom is there.

Also is there a particular reason he has stated as to why he wants to come home? If so is it something you can try to accommodate or adapt to?

Good luck and I hope it is a successful sleepover.

I am taking a short break from the party stuff. I still have cupcakes to ice. The rest is happening tomorrow. I really want to head to bed, but I gotta finish some stuff before heading to bed.

Hope you all had a great Friday.

Thanks. He's been here before so it's not a 'new' environment, but never to stay overnight. Nicholas was wanting to 'camp out' in the living room, but I don't think that's going to happen. I'm sure the boy will prefer to be upstairs where there are PEOPLE. I'll talk to mom and boy more tomorrow and find out more about the issue.

Nicholas is supposed to have his first football game tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that the rain holds off until about 5 or 6. They are playing on the high school field, of the team that won that state championship last year, so it is rather exciting for the boys. Plus, they've practiced so hard for 4 weeks and are really looking forward to the game.

When I was class mom for Katie a few years back we had a Halloween party. I was asked to have a game for them. I took peices of paper & drew a picture of a bat, a ghost, a witch, a spider, a pumpkin, etc on each paper. I then put one folded paper with the drawing (1 word/drawing per paper) & put it in a white balloon. Blew up the balloon & drew a ghost face on it. I made as many of these as we had kids. Each child would take a balloon & pop it any way they wanted which was half the fun. They then had to do a charade to get someone to guess what was on their paper in the balloon. The kids who guessed was next until all the balloons were popped & everyone had a chance to do a charade.

The kids loved this game & I got a cute thank you note from the class. :goodvibes

Good luck to Nicholas!!!!:cheer2:

No advice on the sleepover..I can't get kids to leave my house! I like what Becky suggested, hope that goes well.:goodvibes

Well I made the local news.

We had gone to our fair and while waiting for our potato crisp, the worker was telling us about a drug bust the night before. We looked down towards the game where it happened, and there stood a reporter and camera man.
Well he saw us and started shooting (so we were on the news) luckily he didn't focus real well so we looked farther away then we really were.

Tammi - Good luck with the sleepover. I think Becky gave great advice.

Anne Marie - That game sounds great. I may need to use it!

Jennifer - Check out Family Fun magazine for some ideas. They've had some great Halloween ideas in the past. For a Halloween party I really like the creative food ideas.

Does anyone know what is approriate to do for the family after a death if they are Jehovah's Witness? One of Mom's co-workers passed away suddenly yesterday. Usually they send flowers and/or a meal to the family, but they aren't sure if that's appropriate based on Jehovah's Witness beliefs.

Well tonight was such a fun night. I ended up going to dinner with friends for one of my friend's birthday (and 3 of the people that were there, are going skydiving with me!). We ended up back at one of the houses and played catch phrase for a couple hours til i realized it was midnight and i have to get up at 6..so here i am, but now im wide awake!

Well I was just dressed , ready and walking out the door--and we got the phone call that it was cancelled! So here we all are, awake and ready at 730 on a saturday morning!

Tammi good luck with the sleepover tonight!

Jen sorry to hear the sky diving was canceled.

Becky I hope the shower flows smoothly for you today!

Tia sorry to hear about your mothers friend, no advice on what to take over though
