Okay -- here's a start to a mini-report with some pics from our
December/January WDW Trip
Since my family believes that you have to have your Christmas decorations down before January 1st, or it will bring you bad luck, we had to get down all our decorations on Christmas day. We did manage to get them all down, and Randy and the boys, along with their cousins, carried them up the stairs and in to our attic the next morning. While they did this, I began packing…the day we were leaving. Actually, since our flight was so early on Saturday (to save money and points), we decided to stay at an airport hotel, so we weren’t actually flying out until the next day. Another bonus -- the rate on the hotel plus the parking that was included in the package made doing this very economical. I think we paid $30 over the cost of parking.
Saturday
We got up at 5, dressed and headed down to the terminal to check-in. All went well, as there was a very short line. After checking in, we jumped on the Skylink tram to take us to a different terminal. We got there, bought a phone charger for Andrew (somehow we packed the wrong charger for him) and managed to get to the gate as they were calling our section. We actually left pretty close to on-time, and landed at MCO on-time. We took the tram to get our luggage, hopped the Hertz bus, and ended up at our Ford Edge fairly quickly. We programmed the hotel in to the GPS, though we know the way by heart, and set off for the Grand Floridian.
Upon arrival, we were met and escorted to the concierge check-in. Our room wasn’t available and our favorite CM’s weren’t working, so we stowed our backpacks with the rest of our luggage and headed to Gaspie’s for lunch. Next we caught the monorail over to the MK. I had warned everyone how crowded it would be to show up at 2 p.m. two days after Christmas… and it was bad. Very bad. We did get to ride in the front on the way over, so that was cool. In fact, it became a mission of Jake’s to see how many times we could ride in the front, and we ended up doing it quiet often. I would have felt a little guilty, but most of the time we walked up to a crowd already there, and no one had thought to ask so Jake got the nod. He really wanted to get enough monorail pilot cards to give to all 11 kids in his class, but he was short a couple of cards on the last day. He and Randy went to the monorail station in the hotel, told them what they wanted, and were given a stack of cards.
After arriving at the MK, we got a fast pass for Buzz, but that didn’t have a return until after 5, so we rode the TTA and Carousel of Progress. It was pretty warm, so we headed over to a cart for drinks/ice cream. The girl liked our shirts so she told us that Mickey was buying our things. (Go longhorns!) We decided to head back to the GF as we wanted to unpack and get ready for dinner.
Our room was ready, and was on the 4th floor, 4417. I really wasn’t that impressed with this room. It didn’t have a Castle view (which I’d been spoiled by) and it didn’t have the daybed so we could separate the boys if we needed to. I politely asked if we could move. The lady behind the desk sort of laughed and said the castle view was full. We unpacked, refrigerated all the drinks I had ordered from Garden G r o c e r, the wine from w I n e dot com, changed clothes and set off via monorail to the Contemporary.
We were going to the California Grill for dinner and quickly checked in before getting in the elevator to make our way to the restaurant. We had never eaten there, but it’s become a new fav. We were as far back as you can be from the windows, but it was will cool. The boys enjoyed going out on the deck and looking at the MK. After dinner, I did a little shopping and the boys headed over to the GF marina to check in for our Wishes cruise. It was the holiday version, and was pretty cool.
We washed our hands constantly and used Purell to try to stave off the stomach bug making the rounds…
