I saw a cute ice cream advertised by Baskin Robbins...it was shaped like a haunted house. Christopher's b-day is on Halloween, so I thought it would be perfect. I haven't been to a Baskin Robbins in years...so I look up the number and start calling. Well, I didn't know that there are no more stand alone stores...they are all merged with dunkin Donuts....5 callls so far....no one speaks english!! Unbeliveable!!!

My High School mascot was a Komet ----Kearney Komet---

I think the picture in our yearbook was of a guy on a bike with a comet like thing on top of a helmet!!!! :rotfl:

The district I spent the most time in is the Comets.... I thought it was a lame mascot, but then when I was in high school (and attending a private school (for reasons other than mascot issues ;)) they introduced this really great looking logo that made all the difference in the world! :thumbsup2

All of you that have been posting ... did you change districts/schools between Elemntary, Junior High and High School? Kyle and I were JUST talking about this concept.... the district we live in is the only one (I think) around here where the mascots changed based on the building you are in, instead of staying the same in the district. We thought it would be strange to change mascots so frequently (unless you were changing school districts entirely).... feeling like it might even cause (minor) discordance in school spirit or something throughout the community

But it seems to be very common, at least on the thread.... :confused3
in our area, there are five townships that have their own elementary school. These five elementary schools then combine to the middle school and high school--Greyhounds was the mascot for middle and high school

Holy cow, I think he's looking SO much more like Alyssa than I initially thought! Adorable pictures.... and I will have to show you one of our family ones, in which we were all "stacked" like your 3 kiddos -- it didn't work well for us, either! :rotfl:

Miss you!
I wanna see family pictures1!!

Amy- Cute Pics!!!!!!

Elizabeth- I hope DH gets a chance to photograph the owl! Sorry the brochure is giving you a fit.

My elementary school mascot was a bulldog, my 1st high school was a bee, and the 2nd one that was voted on by the students was knight. (my HS and our rival HS merged my junior year).

Emma's mascot is a lighthouse.

I missed this when you posted earlier! I thought my computer was doing that weird thing where it only shows posts after they are quoted. Anyway...
DH is obsessed with that owl. He took DS to go pick up a pizza and they came in and announced they didn't see the owl. Um, maybe because it's NOT DARK?

The brochure just needs one more block of text and it is FINISHED! :thumbsup2

MIL called last night to tell us that dh's sister's dh was in a car accident. The other driver fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into the passenger side of the truck in which he was riding. Both drivers walked away, but it took 45 minutes for the emergency crews to extricate him, and he was then lifeflighted up to Syracuse. He is still in ICU, though he is stable. They are deciding what to do about the completely smashed knee, and he has multiple fractures (ribs, pelvis, arm, leg) on his right side.

This came right after a friend called to tell me about her friend whose dh was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic by a 17 year old girl who was texting while driving. They lost their 9 year old dd in the accident, and the husband does not currently remember the last ~20 years of his life. He doesn't remember the dd at all or his wife. He keeps asking for his parents who have been dead for almost 15 years.

Sometimes I don't think we remember what our cars are capable of.

Oh my goodness! I am so, so sorry to hear about both of these things. :guilty: :grouphug:

Are you saying that your elementary/middle and then high school all had the same mascot? There has to be more than say one elementary school in each district but they all had the same, is that right?
Our elementary school had it's own mascot, and then my Junior/Senior High had one. Each was in the same district. Every school around here has it's own mascot even if it's in the same district.

Jennifer, do you mean zone instead of district?
We have 5 (I think) elementaries that feed into the middle school, then everybody from our middle school goes on to the same high school unless they transfer to a magnet school.
But even schools in the same zone or feeder pattern have different mascots.

You better pray he gets a pic of that owl soon or that's all you'll hear. :rotfl:

I knew they were the same company - if you want to franchise either one you call a central number. We have stand alone Baskin Robbins and we are seeing an increase in stand alone Dunkin' Donuts. Our Baskin Robbins seem to be owned by Asian families, but they all speak English quite well.

I did call the doctor for my test results. PAP and echocardiogram were completely normal. The mammogram shows a "benign-appearing density" in the right breast. They and the radiologist both recommend a repeat mammogram in 6 months but don't think it's anything to investigate further at this point. I sure hope they are right.

I'm so glad to hear there is nothing of concern! :goodvibes

Tammi, continued prayers for this tragedy.

Beth, prayers for the two families you mentioned also! :grouphug:

That sounds really cute. I want ice cream now!!

None of ours speak English either.

Thats how I would love it to be, just enough for a white Christmas.

I could handle snow the whole month of December.... a white Christmas, a few extra days to play.... but none of this Jan, Feb, March, April crap!

Crying baby...hopefully more later.

Thank you for all your compliments on our pictures! :goodvibes

Because we have 30 elementaries that feed into 4 middle schools then into 3 high schools we have to change according to building otherwise Heritage Lions, Littleton Lions and Arapahoe Lions would be too confusing:rotfl: (those are our three high schools and each gets kids from 2+ middle schools)

That's how this district is, too.... they are the only one that split like that, though. When most of the districts get really big, they just split each grade into it's own building, if necessary. The district we live in (and yours I'm imagining) splits, for example all the K-6 into a boatload of elementary schools, where they could obviously compete with one another even in sports. That's just so weird to me, becuase I grew up with the opposite!

In a lot of places the entire county is a school district, so there are a lot of schools, so they have more mascots. In my county there are 18 school districts. Each with varying numbers of schools. They vary extremely geographically as well. Some are like a square mile others are over 150 square miles.

Some districts have only 1 elementary, 1 Middle, and 1 High School. Others have 14 elementary, 4 middle, 1 High, plus 3 themed gateway schools.

For the most part each of these districts have one mascot. Trojans, Bulldogs, Spartans, Scouts, Red Knights, etc So Reading Red Knights, Wilson Bull Dogs, etc. The elementary, Middle/Jr High, High, etc all refer to themselves as the district mascot even though you might have lots of different school names. So Conrad Weiser East Scouts. Conrad Weiser High Scouts, etc.

Some of the schools I have worked with have quite interesting mascots; Slaters, Koncrete Kids, Bullets

It is one thing I have found that definitely varies from place to place.

Yes... that's totally weird to me, but obviously I'm the "different" one :rotfl:

The district I grew up in has several elementary schools - each serving a different grade or grades, and then the 'middle school campus' is divided into 4 different schools (5th grade, 6th grade and so on)... then there's the freshman building and the high school. Everyone is a comet.

The district we live in currently though, is apparently like the rest of yours. Each of the elementary schools (a dozen+), middle schools (about 5 of them), and high schools (2 + 2 freshman campuses) all have their own individual mascot -- so there are dozens of them, even though they are all the "Lakota Local School District".
