DDA Chapter 13

Well they've just made a press release so I guess I can talk about it. During a water rescue training exercise, an officer went under and hasn't been seen since about 2:45 this afternoon. This happened in Pohick Bay, an offshoot of the Potomac River. An extensive search is continuing, but hope is waning. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. He has a wife and 3 children. I'm going to watch the news and see if they have anything on yet.

Tammi, this is so tragic! I will definitely keep them in my prayers.

Glynis, There really aren't words...I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Happy, happy, happy 1st birthday to Virginia!

Amy, I love the photos!

Theresa, that sure was a scary start to your morning!

I know that there was more that I read, but my brain seems to have a few holes in it.

thanks Beth

MIL called last night to tell us that dh's sister's dh was in a car accident. The other driver fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into the passenger side of the truck in which he was riding. Both drivers walked away, but it took 45 minutes for the emergency crews to extricate him, and he was then lifeflighted up to Syracuse. He is still in ICU, though he is stable. They are deciding what to do about the completely smashed knee, and he has multiple fractures (ribs, pelvis, arm, leg) on his right side.

This came right after a friend called to tell me about her friend whose dh was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic by a 17 year old girl who was texting while driving. They lost their 9 year old dd in the accident, and the husband does not currently remember the last ~20 years of his life. He doesn't remember the dd at all or his wife. He keeps asking for his parents who have been dead for almost 15 years.

Sometimes I don't think we remember what our cars are capable of.

I did call the doctor for my test results. PAP and echocardiogram were completely normal. The mammogram shows a "benign-appearing density" in the right breast. They and the radiologist both recommend a repeat mammogram in 6 months but don't think it's anything to investigate further at this point. I sure hope they are right.

Really, if there was ANY doubt about it being benign they would have you in there for a biopsy. I wouldn't worry about it.

Good thoughts for both families! :wizard:
It is a $200 fine for talking on a hand held cell phone in a school zone now. The other day I was watching people drive by while I waited for DS. At least HALF of the people had a phone in their hand. :sad2:

Thanks for the reassurance. I really am not worried and was planning to not think about it until I need to call for the appt. in 6 months. I was hoping that was not irresponsible of me.

It is illegal to talk on a hand-held phone while driving in NYS. I know that they were working to get texting specifically outlawed as well. I'm not sure of the status on that.

It is just so sad all around. Neither the sleepy driver nor the 17 year-old texter had any malicious intent, but there were extremely serious consequences. BIL and SIL don't have much medical insurance, so they hope this driver had good insurance to cover the medical bills.

you are so right...I hope your BIL recovers quickly:hug:

I am glad you called on it!!

Thanks!

Matthew's senior pictures came today. I'll try to scan them later.

I'm off to make dinner. Dh remembered something his mother used to make (back in the days when money was tight and ground meat was cheap) called Hamburger Gravy. It seems to be a lot like sausage gravy. I'm making it with mashed potatoes tonight.

Jen how did it go last night?
!
It went raelly well, thanks! i have 12 conferences down..11 to go!

a call from the local police at 8:30 in the morning to talk to you about your daughter is not the way to start the day!! :upsidedow

The police officer was calling to tell me that she was going to talk to Cassidy about an alleged assault at the HS on one of her friends. Still makes my heart race.
o wow, scary phone call!

I just received this note from Glynis:

Theresa,

I'm so sorry I haven't been online. I just spent the week with my mom, and got back to find that my computer died while I was gone. Alan just gave me his extra laptop, so I'm back online, but having a hard time connecting to the DIS.

Could you pass a message along to the DDA for me? I won't be online for some time. Things with my mom are going downhill very fast! Basically, her heart is turning into a stone, her dialysis isn't working well, and she's not going to last much longer. I'm just going to be flexible and do whatever I can to help make her last days happy. So, I'm not sure when I'll be around. I don't want people to worry about me, so I'm hoping you'll update everyone. I'll post when I can. I'm actually feeling pretty ok with all this. Mom and I had some great talks while I was there, and she's at peace. We went over her wishes, and things were made very clear that will make things easier.

Thanks for all the prayers and support. Glynis

I was waiting until this evening to call Glynis anyway so I will give you all another update as I get them.
Ill keep her family in my prayers

I know I've posted the same sentiments before, but I'm literally so overwhelmed and amazed tonight/today that I can't sleep. Thanks for being a part of all of it! :grouphug:
WOW! They are so adorable!!!

I think getting in at 10ish sounds perfect that way you can spend the day in the parks and then call it an early night.

Bernadette getting to Disney earlier is great!
Thanks guys! I'll probably stick with the 7:15 flight but will have to stay at the airport. Just got to figure out how to get there. I think it might be too much for DH.

 YIKES! The poor girl she's lucky to have Cassidy as a friend.

Thanks for the update.

Lots of prayers for Glynis & her family.

Getting ready to leave....why would anyone chose a field mouse as a school mascot?? :rotfl2:

cwp.jpg

cwp4.jpg

His best friend & bunk mate Gunther

cwp2.jpg

A little blurry....this is his group leader. They were excited because apparently he is "cool"

cwp3.jpg

Getting on the bus....my tough as nails kid hugged me 6 times and was close to tears!! :lovestruc

cwp5.jpg
I'm sure they'll have a great time!

Cute pictures, Kristine. I think a field mouse is better than a lot of mascots. When I lived in Baytown, my brother and I were Robert E. Lee Ganders! :rotfl:
Our mascot is a skipper (sailor). Not too tough sounding-maybe that is why the football team is so good-they have to be.

Happy Birthday Virginia!
So cute! Happy 1st Birthday Virginia!!!

Thats how I would love it to be, just enough for a white Christmas.

No!!!! :scared1: We were supposed to get that this morning, but I didn't notice any. Can't they stay away until December 24th and then leave again around January 6th?

Ever have something relatively minor irritate you, and then have your spouse tell you that you have no right to be irritated?
This has nothing to do with him, and I AM irritated although it isn't a huge thing.

And on the subject of things that irritate me, in a completely separate irritation, DH has agreed to pick up an extra shift AGAIN next week! One where he will have to go in at midnight. ON HALLOWEEN!   I know! Why doesn't he expose himself to the absolute most risk/danger possible! He was scheduled OFF!!! The measly extra pay he will get for working won't even pay for an OFFICE VISIT, let alone an ambulance ride to an ER trauma center. :headache: Bonehead.
