DDA Chapter 13

I called my mom on my way home. She did have chemo today, and it went fine. She said next week she won't have the Taxol, just an injection to boost her blood counts. Her platelets were low today but the oncologist authorized her infusion. She said she filed a 66 page insurance claim :scared1: with her cancer policy. Hopefully she will get a lot of money back once they get it all processed! She said those injections to stimulate the bone marrow are $6400 EACH. She has had 4 so far. Insane.

I asked her what else is going on. Ms. Selfish's husband, The Amazing Idiot Boy, won a trip to Cancun. OF COURSE the MIL will watch the kids so they can go to Cancun because that is a really important thing. Watching them so Ms. Selfish could help after Mom's surgery was out of the question. Yet Mom immediately jumped to her defense, saying it was OK, she didn't need to come up there. Right. Because that's MY job.

DS has been invited to a sleepover on Saturday. This is a new friend, but the dad phoned and talked with me so we are going to let DS go. Hopefully it will go well. The boy is in the orchestra, which I think is probably an indication that he is a good kid. There weren't any bad kids in orchestra when I was in middle school.

I'm glad your Mom is doing okay. That is terrific news about DS's new friend. I hope they have a great time.

I had a pretty good time last night. My friend won a nice amount. I could have used that to pay for our airfare. I played just a little, but enjoyed the company.

The skirts I made for the quads arrived today and the mom posted them on her TR. They look so cute!

Wow -- what you did is so awesome. I've never read any of the threads. Is one of the quads sick?

Randy picked up the chairs I found through Craig's list yesterday. They are terrific! Solid wood and gently used, so they go with our old table. I wish I had as good of news about the shower. Randy still couldn't get it fixed, so I'm going to be calling around about a plumber today.

My shoulder had been doing much better, but of course, I did something yesterday and then couldn't finish getting ready for our guests as it hurt too much to do anything. It's better this morning, so I'll have the boys help me when we get in today. Our friends aren't due until later tonight. Both boys have soccer games tomorrow, so I have a babysitter coming in to take Jake to his while we go to the Texas/OU football game. We'll try to make it home in time for Andrew's soccer game, which is at 4:30. We are supposed to go back to the State Fair on Sunday with my Dad and siblings/nieces/nephews, then we'll go pick up a friend of Jake's and one of Andrew's for a sleepover as they are off of school on Monday. Guess where we'll go on Monday? Yep -- the fair again, unless the predicted rain comes in.

Have a good day everyone!

Elin, hope your boos and her DH are having a great time.

Question...

for those with appropriately aged daughters...did you have them get the Gardasil vaccine (cervical cancer)

I am not granola by any stretch....but I am a little leery of new vaccines...but with all I have read, I am thinking I should get Jackie in for it.

Yes, her name is Keyan, she is the one with the darkest hair.
Here is their TR if anyone is interested.

Solid wood chairs are a good thing, even if they are gently used!:thumbsup2
Sorry your shower is still not working, I know how plumbing problems can be such a pain.
Angie tore her rotator cuff a few years ago and had surgery to correct it. Her PT tore it again after surgery. She still lives through constant pain in it especially if she overdoes it.
Your schedule always tires me out. I don't know how you do it.

Tough decision but my research pointed to yes and my pediatrician recommended it, so we did it last year.

there is no shot that my pediatrician doesn't like....although I will say he has been flexible and hasn't pressured me. I still have misgivings on this chicken pox shot....

I held out on the varicella until the schools required it. I kept hoping that my kids would get chicken pox in the meantime, but they didn't.

There are plenty of pros and cons on all the vaccines, and I have been incredibly lucky that there were no bad reactions for us. It is so hard to make a truly informed decision.

So today was just a waste of a day. At least it felt that way....

Hope you can find some leaders! Does it help to push the new program and how much it's like a "canned" meeting already done for them? I guess the 1st graders at Kassie's school had a leader issue too. I picked Kassie up last night and there are like 15 of them in the troop. They had a lot of Moms there to help, but I'm guessing that only the 2 leaders were the ones willing to step up and lead a troop since there were like 3 Kindergarten troops last year. I know most of Kassie's troop and the leader moved to the Catholic school, but now all of the rest of the girls are in one big troop.

Glad you missed the intersection by a little. That's always scary when you miss an accident by so little. Good luck with the appointments as well.

Thanks for the cake idea too. The wall on top could work out well.

We are a little on the granola side and have done our vaccination schedule a little differently than most. We're also not of the right age yet so it wouldn't still be new for us when the time comes, but I can tell you that Phil has done some reading up and he's already told me that he wants Terra to have it at the age it becomes available.

On the other hand, I can tell you that Mom has not done it for Rachel yet. She is leaning that way, but hasn't decided yet. Part of it is the "new" thing. She held off on the chicken pox vaccine for a few years as well. When she did it, the doctor had a new piece of information/advice for her and it had been around a few more years.

Good Morning. It was my day to transport the kiddos to school. I stayed and helped make clay pumpkins in Colby's art class. Now I'm home for an hour or so in hopes of getting more accomplished around here. I almost have the laundry done AND put away :rotfl: The put away part seldom happens:lmao:

We've been very lucky with our pediatricians that they were willing to help us work with our vaccine concerns, break them up over time, etc. Mom and I both still have misgivings on chicken pox, but the one piece of advice that sold Mom was that as more kids get the vaccine it will be harder for kids to get it as kids. Then they might be more susceptible as adults. Since Phil had it at 21 we knew there was no way we wanted to take a chance of getting that sick.

That's one of the other reasons that we went with the Varivax. Matthew was exposed multiple times in preschool and never had the chicken pox. My peds definitely let us delay/change schedules without any problems as long as we talked about it. As the kids get older, though, I think they have seen too many not return for physicals/immunizations in their teens just from things they have said.

I did a lot of reading for the Gardisil and was still torn. A friend told me that her doctor was totally against it for teenage girls (though more for "moral" reasons than medical) and that he said a better version will be out in a couple of years. I just wasn't sure that I wanted to wait another "couple years" which would put Laura at 17-18. Also, insurance is required to cover it until 18 but not necessarily after that.

I think that this cold in not going away. I actually feel run down today. Of course I won't have time to hit the doctors until Monday, if I can get in. My hope is that it just disappears over the weekend on its own. If not I will go Monday as I will not be sick for this trip.

We haven't gotten it for either girl...but I am not sure why. Oh wait...I gave Cassidy the option and she chose not to after doing the research and Abi isn't quite old enough.

Good morning, DDA! Nothing much going on around here today. Just some cleaning and basic stuff like that. I also want to work on our trip pictures and maybe our trip report. Oh yeah, and a repairman is coming to fix mom's freezer today. It died a year ago and we figured it was just gone. Last month a notice came in the mail that her master protection agreement for the freezer expires in Nov. Mom didn't even remember having one that lasted that long so now we get to fix the freezer for free. Ice cream can finally be hard again. (The fridge freezer doesn't work well enough to freeze ice cream anymore.)

Rachel must have taken the Six Flags news okay as I didn't even hear about it until right before bedtime. The phone never rang last night so I didn't know Mom had called. When I asked Rachel just repeated what Mom said and said that one of her friends was going to ask if her mom could come. So, I guess we'll see what happens there.

Tomorrow we've got swim lessons and then I'm taking Terra, Kassie and Connor to see the Backyardigans Live. Somehow Phil's store got 4 tickets and someone offered them to him for Terra. I was hoping to take Chase too so Kristi can study for her Master's program exit exam, but apparently all ages need a ticket. Most shows are at least 1yo if not 2yo needing tickets so I was hoping. Oh well. After that, Mom and Dad should be home and I was thinking about taking Terra out for the finals of a marching band competition. Guess we'll see how the day goes.

So what's everyone else have planned for the weekend?

pixiedust: that you start feeling better and don't have to go to the doctor, Deb. pixiedust:

Tia, I'm glad that Rachel took the news well.

We don't have too much planned for the weekend. Today we are relaxing and going out to lunch. The older two have a "pasta dinner" night to go to for cross country. Dh is going to drive his car up to his father's and work on getting that new headlight installed. Maybe Miles and I will have "movie night." Tomorrow we have a cross country meet. I'm not sure what we are doing Sunday. Monday we are driving up to Syracuse for a good chunk of the day.

I am sorry you still feel icky!!:wizard: Sickies be gone!

The weekend. Let's see. I'm working tonight and tomorrow night. The kids have bowling league tomorrow morning and Chris has a couple of private clients that need work done on their cars. I am hoping to get my camper cleaned and winterized, but that has been on the list for a month now  I think we have left Sunday open as no one has to work or be anywhere that I can think of at the moment :cool1: I guess we'll try to make sure everything is in order for the trip.

At some point we need to get traveler's checks. The NCL site says that travellers checks are accepted pretty much everywhere. Chase tells us that there is a 3% charge per transaction if we use the card outside of the US. Does anyone know if we can us US money in the Bahamas or do we need to convert?

Not in the same boat as you are, Kristine, as mine are older. But, if they were Jackie's age I would be headed to the pediatrician to get the vaccine, I think.
