Well we would rather you stay home and chat with us too.
But work must come first.

I have mixed feeling about this one.....

on the one hand I definitely understand wanting to shelter them from this type of thing...but on the other hand...this is the world we live in today and unfortunately violence is a part of it....

after 9/11, I remember being a part of an all school assembly where victim's memories were honored, the days events were discussed etc.....none of the grades were sheltered from the brutality of that day.

the only advice I have for you is to follow the chain of command....talk to the teacher first....if you don't get satisfaction, THEN go to the principal....

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing? I'm going over in my mind how I'm going to handle it.

They had a lock-down drill at school today. I didn't know it was going to happen. Nicholas told me about it at home tonight, and explained what procedures they went through. I asked him if he knew why they would have a lock-down, and he did. They he procedes to tell me that his teacher told them about 2 boys that went into a school with guns and killed 8 people in the library, and then they "turned the guns on themselves." He would never know what a phrase like that meant unless someone told him. He said it made him a little scared. This is 3rd grade! I don't think this explanation needed to be given. I work very hard to keep my kids sheltered from this kind of stuff, at least until they are older and better able to process the information. I asked Alyssa what she was told about it and she said lock-downs are just another way to keep them safe, like fire or tornado drills. So I'm debating whether or not I'm just going to address it with the teacher, by phone or email, or take it straight to the principal.

Beth-that doe looks like she was born that way...or it had been like that for a long time...it's atrophied

That is exactly what I was going to say, Theresa.

I agree, to an extent, that's why I'm torn trying to decide if I'm over-reacting. This past 9-11 I had a talk with Nicholas about the meaning of it, but I explained it at a 3rd grade level, not like I was talking to another adult. I think that's what irks me most, the bluntness of his statement, and not toning it down to their level. I'll have to think about it some more. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hey Kristine, how was the sleigh ride a WL? Would you recommend it? What time did you do it?

I completely think that this is disturbing too...I would address it with the teacher. I know that, personally, I appreciate it when parents come to my first, and do not go directly to the principal

I had a pretty good time last night. My friend won a nice amount. I could have used that to pay for our airfare. I played just a little, but enjoyed the company.

The skirts I made for the quads arrived today and the mom posted them on her TR. They look so cute!

I am glad you had a good time, and wish YOU had been the one to win that money! Those little girls are precious and I can tell they love the twirl skirts. :goodvibes

I hear you......I guess ask yourself: do you feel like he is has been negatively effected by this? is he afraid or nervous suddenly? or are YOU upset about it more? if it's more about you....then I would probably let it go...but that's just me...and you should really do what you feel is right for you & your kids....does that rambling make sense?

hmmmmmmmmmmm...............

well, you know me, I like to do EVERYTHING...

we did enjoy it....I would do it again...

but, if you only can do 1...go do the one at Fort Wilderness. That one was really great!! You get to see all the neat decorations that the campers have out...and the ride was longer

Tammi,,,I would talk directly with the teacher

I was thinking about how to say this, but Terry came right to the point. I would go directly to the teacher too, Tammi. It seems as if she went a little overboard in her explanation, but maybe doesn't realize it. She needs to know. But I wouldn't think it is something that needs to be reported to the principal at this juncture.

Yes, it does. I appreciate it. I've never had an issue before with a teacher so I'm learning the ropes of how to handle it, or even if it does need to be handled.

Thanks everyone.

Oh that's good to know, thanks. I'm thinking of booking one for Nicholas's bday. We will be at the MK that day and then have dinner at 1900 Park Fare. There's a MVMCP that night, so we won't go back to MK. I was trying to think of something fun to do afterwards.

here's the pic from Ft. Wilderness...they were more flexible on size of the group than WL....

Yeah, I was concerned because ours will be 3 adults and 2 kids. The listing on Allears says they are both the same amt of time, but the FW rides are $35 and WL are $60! Is that correct?

I think I added it right after you posted your good nights.

I came home expecting Phil to discourage us from going for awhile. Instead, he calmed Terra's disappointment about being home by suggesting that she and I pick a date for the next one. I offered Christmas time next year or her birthday after that and she has decided on her birthday. She also says that she wants to do a Mickey's Philharmagic theme for her party that year and have a cake with Donald crashing through the wall on it. :thumbsup2

I would say it's subject to change based on possible offers next year, etc, but I think she's pretty set on her birthday, so we'll plan for starting with her birthday and going into the next week to miss the New England winter break crowds.
So exciting. I am still not sure which month we will be going. Mom mentioned April but I want Nov. so we will see.

I just don't remember....I am thinking that I originally booked 2 rides because of the size limit....but then she took all 5 of us for an hour....that must be why it seemed longer....but as far as price...I have no memory at all
