DDA Chapter 13

Many hugs a PD to everyone in these tough economic times, I made the mistake of looking at our 401k's recently and it wasn't a pretty picture.

Mine is in a stable fund, it doesn't earn as much but it also doesn't lose as much. The company I work for filed for bankruptcy in 2000, our 401's were totally invested in company stock, I watched it plummet thinking that surely it would reverse and go back up. Didn't happen, it went so low that it was dissolved and we lost everything, what really burned my buns was when new stock was issued and sold without those of us who lost our savings receiving anything.

DH's is not in a stable fund and has taken a major hit.

Did he ring twice?

Sorry, the thought of the postman ringing the doorbell brought that to mind.

:rotfl2: I almost added a comment about him NOT ringing twice, but I didn't know if anybody would get the joke. :rotfl:

The police have given the all clear, they've decided that there wasn't another person after all and they have all of them in custody.

Tonight is football, and I've promised Brandon I would take him for Mexican afterwards.

Great news about the all clear!
Have a great time at the game and enjoy your Mexican!

I called my mom on my way home. She did have chemo today, and it went fine. She said next week she won't have the Taxol, just an injection to boost her blood counts. Her platelets were low today but the oncologist authorized her infusion. She said she filed a 66 page insurance claim :scared1: with her cancer policy. Hopefully she will get a lot of money back once they get it all processed! She said those injections to stimulate the bone marrow are $6400 EACH. She has had 4 so far. Insane.

I asked her what else is going on. Ms. Selfish's husband, The Amazing Idiot Boy, won a trip to Cancun. OF COURSE the MIL will watch the kids so they can go to Cancun because that is a really important thing. Watching them so Ms. Selfish could help after Mom's surgery was out of the question. Yet Mom immediately jumped to her defense, saying it was OK, she didn't need to come up there. Right. Because that's MY job.

DS has been invited to a sleepover on Saturday. This is a new friend, but the dad phoned and talked with me so we are going to let DS go. Hopefully it will go well. The boy is in the orchestra, which I think is probably an indication that he is a good kid. There weren't any bad kids in orchestra when I was in middle school.

If she goes with the chocolate party, could you send an invitation my way? :rotfl: Those do sound like great themes with lots of possibilities.

Hmmm...maybe Laura would like a Chocolate Sweet 16 party. Then it really would be sweet.

I think it would be perfect for that! She is thinking a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, chocolate fondue (or fountain) and chocolate party favors. She has chocolate themed games in mind too, but I don't think the 16yos will have quite the same thoughts on those as my 5yo. ;)

Glad Mom's treatment went well today. that DH is in remission as well!

Hope DS' sleepover goes well this weekend. Rachel is about to get either really disappointed or really mad. She wants to go to Six Flags for Fright Fest until midnight on Friday with a parent just dropping them off. I called Mom last night with the info and names so that they could decide if that was okay (they are in Branson). She told me today that she'll call Rachel tonight to tell her that she can't go without an adult at least at the park somewhere. We don't know 2 of the girls going and the group is up to about 8 which, as mom said, is many more brains to come up with ideas. Hopefully, I'm not stuck with a moping 12yo tomorrow night. I know Mom talked to another friend's mom and she's not letting her DD go either so maybe I'll suggest a sleepover instead.

Good luck with that. I did make sure I asked the dad if an adult will be there with the boys. DS isn't sure how many boys are going to be there. I would imagine 5 or so.
There is no way I would drop a group of DS's friends at Six Flags. NO WAY. Did I tell you about the year we went with the Uncles and their friend was ejected from the haunted house? Somebody jumped out at him and he smacked them with his hat. Apparently they told him they COULD have ejected him from the park for it! I guess they figured 3 middle-age gay men and a family with a 6 year old are relatively harmless in the grand scheme of things so they let him (and the rest of us) stay.
A bunch of 12 year olds need an adult inside the park in case something goes awry.

Mom has been considering maybe letting them next year, at least during the day. She's just not ready for this year, plus Fright Fest, plus a Friday night until midnight. Not to mention that Rachel and one of the other girls still get pretty freaked out by some of the spooky characters.

I had a pretty good time last night. My friend won a nice amount. I could have used that to pay for our airfare. I played just a little, but enjoyed the company.

The skirts I made for the quads arrived today and the mom posted them on her TR. They look so cute!

Wow, look at the excitement in those faces   What a wonderful thing you did. Mom looks so excited too.

Good luck with that.:wizard: :wizard:

Jennifer - Do you know how many Photopass pictures there were total when you logged off today?

Elizabeth - I'm glad your mom is doing okay.

Tom - Beautiful. That is so heartwarming.

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing? I'm going over in my mind how I'm going to handle it.

They had a lock-down drill at school today. I didn't know it was going to happen. Nicholas told me about it at home tonight, and explained what procedures they went through. I asked him if he knew why they would have a lock-down, and he did. They he procedes to tell me that his teacher told them about 2 boys that went into a school with guns and killed 8 people in the library, and then they "turned the guns on themselves." He would never know what a phrase like that meant unless someone told him. He said it made him a little scared. This is 3rd grade! I don't think this explanation needed to be given. I work very hard to keep my kids sheltered from this kind of stuff, at least until they are older and better able to process the information. I asked Alyssa what she was told about it and she said lock-downs are just another way to keep them safe, like fire or tornado drills. So I'm debating whether or not I'm just going to address it with the teacher, by phone or email, or take it straight to the principal.

So I decided to do my little bit of research for all of us on the 2 gentlemen and one of them have a wonderfully spelled out website and one has a very, very gobbledy gooked website.....off to decipher!

Is it as gobbledy gooky as the info on the League of Women Voters' site??
