 I hope that you can figure it out, and I know that either way, you'll have a magical trip!

It is very scary right now. We haven't had anyone pull from preschool for financial reasons yet, but that is something that probably would be first to go for the families that we have. (Not that I'm bringing in much, but it does allow for some special things.) Also, dh's job at IBM depends a lot on the contracts with the big financial houses. It has me a bit on edge, but there isn't much I can change at the moment in anticipation of job loss. We've weathered insecurity before, I just hope it doesn't become more than insecurity. IBM is famous around here for layoffs just before the holidays. My best friend's dh is a store manager at Sears. He makes more than a typical store manager, because of all his experience both in management and with corporate. They have concerns, too.

I hope things remain as they are for you and your DH, Beth. We weathered the last construction collapse, but it wasn't pretty. Bob was out of work for 17 months and we saw our financial situation go from being very comfortable to very precarious. We are still climbing out of that abyss in some ways 18 years later. I don't wish that on anyone.

Wow you guys were chatty while I was at work. I did manage to catch up though.

I have a nagging little cough, but otherwise I feel fine.

I hope the cough is gone soon. I actually used my video camera a lot on our first couple of cruises. If it isn't too big or cumbersome, you might want to take it. The deck party would be one thing that would be fun to re-live later. I also take cheap plastic lei's for the party.

Debbie - congrats on the new princess!

Robyn - my niece didn't have bangs, but took out a chunk of hair from the front right before Easter a couple of years ago. That made for very interesting pictures that year...

Tom -- a great job with the MAW project!

Well, I am here this morning with a lot of thoughts running through my head. Seems the economy problems are going to affect us too. I had three families tell me yesterday that unless their government contractor husband and wife contracts are picked up (and it doesn't look likely) they will have to withdraw their children. That is 7 students that I teach. It affects my monthly salary as well as the school's profit margin. If it is happening in my classes it is also happening in the other 4 teachers' studios too.

Then late last night Bob told me that 17 of the 18 designers in one of the Florida plants were laid off while we were gone. It is one of the facilities we were looking at for a possible move. Not only are we not going to move any time soon but we are now seeing some impact on large commercial construction. That is what Bob designs. Although he is not "afraid" for his job, he is concerned for his friends and we noticed a significant drop in his bonus amount this last paycheck. About $400 worth. He is paid every two weeks so that could be a major change in our finances.

We are not concerned about day-to-day things. Unless there is a huge financial crash ahead that none of us can possibly predict we are fine. But, we did talk about our Christmas trip late last night. We don't plan to cancel the trip. But I am seriously thinking about changing our resort from AKL CL to a moderate. Obviously the savings would be considerable. But all the special things I had planned with AKL IPO would be lost. This is a hard decision, and in comparison to what others in our country are facing, very minor. But it is one I am not wanting to make. I have until the beginning of November to change our minds, but I am afraid if I wait too long there will be no rooms available for our dates. aaaaack!

Thanks for letting me vent and brainstorm. :goodvibes

Elin -- I think a lot of us are having similar thoughts. (I know there are many factors contributing to our economic problems now, but I personally would love to have 10 minutes in the room with the idiot that came up with the high-risk loan scheme that made millions and millions for him and others, and now has our economy in a downward spiral.) Anyway, we are seeing corporations tighten their belts by cancelling trainings or scaling back on their contracts. My boss is even uptight about it. I think it's smart of you to be thinking about your options and I, too, hope you don't have to change your plans. WDW is my "escape" from my high-stress job and all the responsibilities it carries, and my family recharge time. :goodvibes

I know the adverse affects of the economy are hitting everyone. I was talking to the man at the nail salon the other day and he was saying that their business has really drop. People are having to give up the little things in life, like having pretty hands.

My opinion, I would leave the vacation as is, and start cutting back on others. You have planned this trip for so long, the girls are going, etc. etc. You may not be able to do it up this way for a long time. Live it up and enjoy, knowing that next time may not be the same.

I am glad you mended your ways and posted pictures of Abi in her concert. Let's guess... the speech slacker is the one with the bangs over her eyes... :rolleyes1

how'd you guess;)

I am sorry Elin. :grouphug:

Thanks everyone for the hugs and compliments on Mo's new 'do. I hope and pray this is the last time she does it. The girl who cut her hair yesterday asked if Mo could have a lollipop and I said no. Mo was not happy about that but she knows why she didn't get one, so hopefully that furthered her understanding. She loves lollipops. Only one little girl at ballet mentioned her getting her hair cut. Eric thinks the other ones and the moms didn't want to say anything!!

We are headed out to Lucy's 15month well check. Then we have some errands to run. I am dropping Lucy off at my sister's today for the night. Emma has a field trip tomorrow so it's easier to just take her there today.

I've read everything but didn't have time to respond individually. :wizard: and 's all around. I've got to scoot.

What did he have for lunch that day?

He always brings his lunch, and he only eats PB&J or turkey. The other really weird thing is I smelled his jacket this morning, and it just smells like detergent. He wears that thing ALL the time, so I expected it to smell even though I washed it Sunday. DH gave him some deodorant, and I told him we will go buy some of his choice this weekend. It's just weird.

I can totally see how manicures would be an expense to be eliminated. I only have my toes done 2 or 3 times a year, and I can't remember the last time I had a manicure.

I think (hope) my job is stable, but I can also see how families would be getting rid of their nannies and opting for less expensive options. :scared:

There is some weird restructuring at DH's work. It sounds like it will be a gigantic mess. Supposedly this new plan will streamline the operations, but I see tremendous potential for it to fail. They want the drivers to go around and drop off product, then a "merchandiser" will follow each driver. This means they can put more stores on each route, which means routes will be consolidated, which means some drivers won't HAVE a route anymore. It's very confusing. I guess right now they are piloting it in a few districts, so they don't actually even know if it will work. DH says they are also going to be eliminating the deal where the drivers get 3 days off every other week, so I have a feeling they will have a LOT of drivers quitting. If somebody told me I had to work an extra 26 days each year I don't think I would appreciate that! That rumor has been going around for awhile though, so it shouldn't shock anyone. It also locks in the "off" days for the drivers, so some will be off Friday & Saturday and some will be off Sunday & Monday, always. Of course this creates challenges with payroll and commission, too. I don't understand how this will increase their profit margins, but I DO understand how it will make a lot of guys really mad. We don't think this will have an impact on DH because he will still be in his current job of covering other guys who are out on vacation or disability. They had a big meeting about it last week and the main supervisor couldn't answer many of the questions that were asked. It sounds like they rolled the plan out prematurely, so the guys will be panicky and morale will plummet while they wait for more details. Not the way I would have chosen to do it. :rolleyes1

Good morning all!

I usually don't stifle my coughs but there was a snotty parent in front of me, who, every time I even moved gave me the "eye" ball. I woke up to worse coughing, so though I hate medicine I took Robittusin. :scared:

Back to pretending I work.

Well, crap.
Help me decide on airfare!
I got an alert that the price on my flights dropped. The departure has gone from $194 to $149, for a total savings of $90 for me and DS. Great! The problem is coming home the flight is still $206. There is a another flight that leaves earlier that is $149. $300 round trip is still high, but not as bad as $421. The 12:20 flight doesn't have any 25K mile seats, so I can't move DH to that flight. I MIGHT be able to move DH to a 3:20 flight so he isn't sitting around by himself for 5 hours. I thought, oh, I'll just book the one way leg now and see what happens with the return leg. No, I won't, because the one way is $234! :scared1:

I have the round trip on hold for 24 hours so I can talk to DH about it. What do you guys think? Book or gamble that the price might come down more, book or gamble, book or gamble? :confused3 Then there is still the issue of us being on different flights coming home...
