DDA Chapter 12

HI! :goodvibes

No time really at all to post, but I wanted to check in. I have been keeping updates on the laptop which I posted to the blog today if anyone is interested in the events of our last few days. Don't worry, only "Part 1" (of .... 5?) is very long. It's also the most interesting though, with everything but cows flying along the highway, my adventures in helping my dog pee, etc. It's been interesting to see what a whole day of hurricane winds can do to a city that a) wasn't expecting much and b) doesn't even sell any building materials in town that withstand much more than 40-50mph winds! I'm just glad we don't get the water, too! :wizard:

I hope everyone is doing well. I plan on catching up some day (about 40 pages back so far... slow down! :rotfl:) Please let me know if our friends in Texas and Illinois are doing all right! :grouphug:

Thanks for checking in! I am glad that you are back to being connected to the rest of the world and have electricity.

I see I was delayed in the brain sharing:goodvibes :lmao:

Yeah. My brain was a little slow on that, too. :rotfl:

Take your pick.

Thanks! I pick them all!

Jim says he'll eat most foods but he won't eat any vegetables that start with the letter "a" and he won't eat any milk products except milk and cottage cheese and "regular" cheese. Ranch dressing is one of those no no items.
Dang, it's amazing we ever find anything to eat with 4 picky eaters in the house:rotfl2:

We're pretty picky here, too. Of course, I probably enabled that when the kids were young, because I know exactly how it feels to not like certain foods. Some days I wish there were a lot more that I didn't like!

Ranch dressing is a huge no no item for the boys. Laura and I like it. Dh gags at the smell. Dh is probably the least picky overall, but when he doesn't like something, he really, really doesn't like it.

Oh, Elin! I think Peanut is going to be a musician. I'm sitting here listening to some classical music, and he is kicking in perfect time to the music........right on my bladder. What a prodigy, eh???

Cassidy would kick to the beat...specifically her daddy's instrument. Quite fun to watch my abdomen at basketball games. :goodvibes So you might just have a musician there!!

Gotta tell you all a funny Cassidy said last night. I was getting the specifics from my mom about my newest nephew. Caleb Edward was 8 lb 7 oz and 20 inches long. Well Cassidy, upon hearing the news, went "Yes!! I still hold the record":rotfl2: (She was 8 lbs 10 oz and one centimeter off of 22 inches)

That's great! Amazing what kids will hold on to, isn't it? Katie is thrilled that she is the largest of our babies. They are placing bets on how big Peanut will be. I've told them that because of the gastric surgery, he's likely to be kind of small. Leslie doesn't want him to be smaller than her (5 pounds 2 oz.), so I think she'll be pretty disappointed if he is!

Yes! That's the "spriraling" concept that I was talking about. It drives me nuts! Fortunately, we are all strong in math here, but I have friends who aren't as strong and can't really help at home and whose children don't catch on the first time. It makes math such a mess for them.

That would be us. I don't understand most of the math DS comes home with. DH and DS butt heads on EVERYTHING, and the way DH explains things doesn't make sense to DS. Even though DS brought home that thing saying he failed 3 out of 6 competencies the teacher hasn't bothered to tell me what we need to DO about it. In 3rd grade he had a private tutor to the tune of $50 per hour. We can't do that this year.

I know there is tutoring through the school, but I don't understand how it works. They sent home this chart showing the after school stuff, but it is like a daycare program that you enroll and pay for. It is designed for the kids whose parents aren't home in the afternoon. I don't know if DS would be allowed to go JUST the 2 days they do math tutoring, and I don't know if that tutoring is for honors kids or if it is just for the kids who are in danger of failing TAKS. :confused3 A little input from the TEACHER would be USEFUL.

The other thing is that there are 29 kids in DS's math class. The administration is supposed to "level" the classes so there are an even number in each period. At open house the teacher said she has one class with only 15 kids. The district had an "accounting error" that caused a $64 million budget shortfall this year (that guy lost his job). The district now has a hiring freeze and principals are being told to cut staff if at all possible. That should screw up leveling! AND the district is enrolling hurricane evacuees which may delay leveling even further while they figure out where to put those kids. The guidance counselor doesn't want to have another 504 meeting until she is sure everything is in place for the year, so for now we are just kind of stuck. I did e-mail the math teacher to let her know he has a 504, but that is as far as we have gotten.

Glad to hear she is proud of that distinction! :rotfl2:
I don't think I told you congrats yesterday, so congrats on your new nephew! :)

Off to Bill's colonoscopy...it has been a long 2 days

:rotfl: Laura was my largest at 8 lb 11 oz, but I don't think she even cares. I can't remember their lengths right now. Does that make me a bad mommy? I also make bigger babies than either of my SILs, so I guess she is the biggest all-around.

Congrats on the new nephew!!

pixiedust: that Peanut is at least 5 lbs 3 oz.

 I wish we were closer. I am pretty good at explaining math to everyone that's not my child.

Good luck! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Have fun with that! :scared: I hope it goes OK! :wizard:

DH gets to go on Oct. 3. I just hate dealing with him because he is so GROUCHY the day before and the day of the procedure. The day before all he does is gripe. The day of all he does is gripe. Last time on the way home we had to stop at Wendy's and they didn't give him his fries at the drive-through. I told him he could have mine, to just let it go. He threw a tantrum, made me stop the car so he could go in and demand his fries, whatever. Then he wolfs down all that greasy food and feels like crap. Go figure! :headache:
He also has NO memory of what the doctor says afterwards. NONE. That's from the medication they give him, but it is very irritating. I go in with him for the report and by the time we get home he can't recall ANYTHING the Dr. said, and he acts like I am making it up when I recap it.

Nicholas was 9lb 5oz, and Alyssa was 8lb 15oz. I make big babies. ;)

Theresa - congrats on the new nephew.

Kristine and Bill - good thoughts!

Jennifer - it's good to see you posting again.

I'm going to bed. If I don't finish this blasted budget in the next two weeks, I'm not going to be able to relax on my trip.:surfweb: Nitey, nite

Good luck! We know you'll get it done!

morning everyone--i feel like i just left school and its already time to go back--i hope today flies by!

Hopefully things will calm down for you soon once you have a chance to really settle in.

Hi,
sorry I have not time to catch up...Yesterday was a rough day.

What a day! I hope that Sophie is okay today. Lots of :wizard: and :grouphug: for you all.

I talked to my boss and I will be working tonight. I do feel better, but not 100% and I sound like he ll. There isn't anyone available to cover and I do think I feel strong enough to go so I will. For now I will feed the boys lunch as they are off today for teacher inservice. Then Colby and I will take a nap.

Good to see you back on! I hope your clean up isn't too bad.

Well, I am finally well on my way through my list. I still have a few medium size projects on it, but the rest are just appts for the most part. :woohoo: It feels much better to see lots of crossed out lines rather than continuing to add things. I was kind of hoping to see rain in the forecast over the next day or so to get me out of mowing before we leave, but alas there's nothing by sun. So now I'm off to get more done. I've got a dr appt at 1:30 and then will just head to the mall to wait for Phil to get off work as they are too close together to justify coming home in between. Catch you all this evening!

Tia, your trip is almost here! I'm so excited for you!

Deb, I hope that you are all better soon! I hope that work is worth it tonight, since you have to go in.

I'm almost ready to post another day on my "Out West" TR. I thought it would be a quick one, but it's taken quite a while afterall.

Hi,
sorry I have not time to catch up...Yesterday was a rough day. Sophie came home & told me she passed out in school. Turns out she fell (none of the monitors saw her!) & hit her head & blacked out for a minute. She got up with her friends around her looking at her & she was embarrased so she didn't tell anyone. So of course I took her to the Dr who told me to take her to the ER right away. They did some tests & she has a concussion. No gym for a week & we have to keep an eye on her for vomiting or disorientation. We didn't get in until after 10pm so I am letting her sleep in & she will go to school late.

I had called her teacher yesterday to ask why no one saw her fall & I got alot of baloney. I am calling the principal (who is a real pitbull) to tell her what happened. I know she will blow me off & but I am going to make my point known.

Daniel's bus broke down coming home last night & one of Katie's teachers has some real mental problems so things here are very bumpy at the moment.

Oh & we may be moving before December so that has been a real whirlwind.

Sorry for the long post....Hope all is well you all.

:grouphug: for all of you.
