DDA Chapter 12

I just got great DINGs for October and November. Unfortunately that new furnace will leave us cash poor for awhile :sad1: What makes it worse is that our kids keep bringing up going to WDW again. Oh well, we've been fortunate to go as often as we have. I will just have to plan a better trip for 2010 :cool1:

Eric took 2/3rds of the girls over to his parents after dinner for a bit and came home with some news. Apparently his mom had went to the eye doctor a few weeks back and was diagnosed with cataracts. She went today for a 2nd opinion and found out that the blood vessels in her bad eye are burst or severed. Basically it means that she is blind in that eye. From what I got out of Eric there is little they can do. She has had numerous little accidents/incidences and I guess it all seems to make sense now. She works from the mid afternoon to late evening and I imagine that she will no longer be driving at night if at all.

I guess in the grand scheme of things butter seems insignificant!

Your poor mother in law. I am glad she went in for a second opinion though.

I'm not sure if someone here posted this recipe or if I got it somewhere else. My question: do I put this all in the crockpot at the same time? I am wanting to try this out tomorrow.

Beef Tips in the crockpot:

2lbs beef stew meat
1 pkg lipton onion soup mix
1 can cream mush soup
1 large can mushrooms
1/2 cup red wine (I use Barefoot's Cabernet)

I'd put the meat in first, then mix the rest up together and pour it over the meat. Sounds yummy!

Glynis I see your ticker, only 12 weeks till your new son. It seems like just yesterday you announced you were expecting. :goodvibes

I know! Isn't it amazing how fast it's gone!?! Of course, every time I think I'm ready, I think of about 40 more things I need to do first!

I just found out that with the addition of Peanut (even though he won't be in school for years), my kids qualify for reduced price school lunch....75 cents per meal! That will be a help!!! So, I get to go fill out all that paperwork this morning.

Yep! And it's one of the only ways that Bob will eat tuna! Though I add onion and celery and use different cheese...I do kind of "bake" the boboli bread before adding the tuna though...I find out that the bread it too chewy if I don't do that first. (PS - My hand is good! It's just red and does't hurt much anymore!)

Last night I tried the Boboli thin crust. I usually just use the regular. I like the thin much better. It got nice and crispy in the oven. It was so yummy!

It's so easy, I'm almost embarrassed to post it.

Here goes.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place a Boboli bread crust on a cookie sheet. In a bowl, mix 2 cans of drained tuna with 1/3 cup mayonnaise, and 1/2 cup minced onion. Spread on crust to within an inch of the edge. Top with thinly sliced tomatoes. Bake in oven for 12 minutes. Remove from oven and top with thin slices of American cheese. Back in the oven for 2 minutes while the cheese melts. Slice and enjoy!

we do this but on toast and without tomatoes (:scared: ) and call it tuna melts...we love them!!

Hi,
sorry I have not time to catch up...Yesterday was a rough day. Sophie came home & told me she passed out in school. Turns out she fell (none of the monitors saw her!) & hit her head & blacked out for a minute. She got up with her friends around her looking at her & she was embarrased so she didn't tell anyone. So of course I took her to the Dr who told me to take her to the ER right away. They did some tests & she has a concussion. No gym for a week & we have to keep an eye on her for vomiting or disorientation. We didn't get in until after 10pm so I am letting her sleep in & she will go to school late.

I had called her teacher yesterday to ask why no one saw her fall & I got alot of baloney. I am calling the principal (who is a real pitbull) to tell her what happened. I know she will blow me off & but I am going to make my point known.

Daniel's bus broke down coming home last night & one of Katie's teachers has some real mental problems so things here are very bumpy at the moment.

Oh & we may be moving before December so that has been a real whirlwind.

Sorry for the long post....Hope all is well you all.

Oh, my! Major hugs for Sophie!!!! I'm so sorry. Please tell her I understand her feeling embarrassed! I felt the same way when I passed out in Walmart. It's such a horrible feeling to wake up and see all those people just looking at you! Give her a HUGE hug from me!

I'm so glad that you are calling the principal! There's no reason the teacher shouldn't have been aware of what was going on!

Wish I lived closer so I could help with the move! I'm helping in spirit, though!

kind of looks like my beef stroganoff....my mom always sears the meat before putting it in the crockpot. Me, on the other hand, stick it all in the crockpot at the same time and stir every once in awhile.

HI! :goodvibes

No time really at all to post, but I wanted to check in. I have been keeping updates on the laptop which I posted to the blog today if anyone is interested in the events of our last few days. Don't worry, only "Part 1" (of .... 5?) is very long. It's also the most interesting though, with everything but cows flying along the highway, my adventures in helping my dog pee, etc. It's been interesting to see what a whole day of hurricane winds can do to a city that a) wasn't expecting much and b) doesn't even sell any building materials in town that withstand much more than 40-50mph winds! I'm just glad we don't get the water, too! :wizard:

I hope everyone is doing well. I plan on catching up some day (about 40 pages back so far... slow down! :rotfl:) Please let me know if our friends in Texas and Illinois are doing all right! :grouphug:

I'm so glad to see you back! I was really worried when I got your text! So was Alan! Wish we could have whisked you and the girls out here for a few days.

Poor Sophie!!

When Abi broke her arm at school I got the same run around/baloney even from the principal, but they all knew I meant business. So much so I ended up on the PTO after that. Seriously, make sure you are heard and give Sophie extra loving from her DDA aunties (and uncle!!)

For some reason, my kids will eat it if it's pizza, but not sandwiches. Go figure.:confused3

Math is my least favorite subject to begin with, and it is DS's weakest. The problem I have with the way they teach it now is the way they introduce a concept and then abandon it the next day. They go to something completely different, and then come back to the first concept 3 weeks later and expect all of the kids to remember and reproduce it. DS doesn't catch things the first time around, so to expect him to remember it weeks later is stupid. He still struggles with BASIC, single digit multiplication! Yet he aces that ridiculous state test every year and they put him in honors math. :sad2:

Jennifer - Do you have electricity now? I hope so!! We got your check - thanks! :)

Where's that smiley of the guy beating the stuffing out of his computer. First I had too many images. So I split the post. Still had too many images in the first post. Removed some of them. Then for some reason I was no longer logged in. Logged in (and the message was still there...thank goodness!). Posted the first part of the message. Went to post the second part...had to wait another 14 seconds. WOW!
Take your pick.

Oh, Elin! I think Peanut is going to be a musician. I'm sitting here listening to some classical music, and he is kicking in perfect time to the music........right on my bladder. What a prodigy, eh???

I cut back on the mayo and add Ranch dressing. Gives it a little zing.

Jim says he'll eat most foods but he won't eat any vegetables that start with the letter "a" and he won't eat any milk products except milk and cottage cheese and "regular" cheese. Ranch dressing is one of those no no items.
Dang, it's amazing we ever find anything to eat with 4 picky eaters in the house:rotfl2:

Yes! That's the "spriraling" concept that I was talking about. It drives me nuts! Fortunately, we are all strong in math here, but I have friends who aren't as strong and can't really help at home and whose children don't catch on the first time. It makes math such a mess for them.

:yay: for cheaper lunches, :scared: for all the paperwork.
