we are located in a cold state so no outdoor activities. I want to have a sleepover for her and 9 of her good friends. Any ideas? Last year we had 2 friends sleep over and did the whole makeover thingy. I am on a tight budget this year. What would you all plan? TIA.

One year I bought white pillowcases and fabric paints, drew a grid on each pillowcase, and then the girls decorated one square on each of the pillowcases. Fairly cheap, took an hour or two, they had a blast, plus they each had something to take home. Add pizza, cake and ice cream, and a movie, and that's not a bad little party!

And we've also tie-dyed before. that was fun, but a lot messier.

I second the pillowcase idea...except that I would suggest fabric markers and stencils as the paint is sometimes uncomfortable on a pillowcase when it dries. We did this at my dd's 10th birthday party and the girls loved it as an activity and as a favor...they all put them on their pillows before they went home the next morning when they were dry.

We also did the pillowcase idea. The girls had a blast with it. We also had an American Girl party. The girls brought their dolls and clothes, and we bought baby undershirts, and they decorated them for nightshirts for their dolls. If they all have dolls this might be an idea. We didn't need any other games or activities. They were too busy playing with their dolls and each others clothes to do any of the other planned activities.

I ahve done sleep over parties where the girls just make their own fun. Depending on the number of girls you could do a sort of sleepover olympic games.

We did this one year and had 2 teams of 4. First we played scene it. the worked in teams and whoever won that got a point.

We had an ice cream making contest (largest, most creative without using whipped cream, etc) points were awarded by team for the various categories (and they got to eat the ice cream!)

Pizza eating contest (we just did the team with the most members who could eat a slice of pizza the fastest)

Doll dress up contest (each team had a doll and had to dress it according to a few guidelines, like most like hannah montana, most likea sports star, etc)

I also vaguely remember a pillow fight as part of the festivities but don't know what happened with that and how a winner was determined.

The team at the end of the 'games' with the most points won and the prize was getting to choose the movie for the evening.

Hope that helps some.

My DD is turning 11 and is having 4 friends over tomorrow night.

We are making stromboli-- I'm going to let the girls help make their own. (We did an afternoon "make your own pizza" party with 10 kindergarteners one year-- this should be easier.)

For teacher/grandparent presents my kids made magnets similar to these:
http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/emoticon-magnets-663515/
We used tiny index photos and cutouts from magazines instead of drawings. The supplies were very cheap and I still have enough left for each girl to make a few to take home.

We're also doing a spa treatment. A friend of mine had some ladies over for to use some homemade spa treatments (maize exfoliant, oat & honey mask, sugar scrub, and lavender foot soak). DD and I are going to mix up the recipies tonight, so they'll be all ready to use tomorrow night. They're basic kitchen ingredients and I just bought a few $1 plastic tubs (that I can reuse) for the foot soak so I didn't really spend any extra money on this.

I bought cute washcloths, fuzzy socks, and a headband for each girl. (This and the magnets will take the place of a gift bag.) I spent about $15 on all of the items.

Would you mind sharing those recipes? DD9 would love to make homemade spa treatments, and seeing as we're having early dismissal today and likely ANOTHER snow day tomorrow, we need all the fun ideas we can get! :goodvibes

Sure. :goodvibes

Maize Exfoliant
1/2 c cornmeal
1/4 c milk
2tsp baking soda
1Tbsp olive oil
5 drops tea tree oil (optional)
--- Mix all ingredients together and rub gently in a circular motion over skin on face and neck or arms and legs. Rinse with warm water.

Soothing Oat & Honey Facial Mask
1 c plain yogurt (I'm going to try vanilla-- they only had huge plain ones)
1/2 c oatmeal
2Tbsp honey
--- Combine all ingredients and apply to freshly washed and dried skin. Leave on for 15 mins then rinse with warm water.

Smoothing Sugar Scrub
1c white sugar
1c olive oil
3-4 drops essential oil (lavender, rose, etc-- can omit this for no scent)
--- Mix all ingredients and set aside. Rinse skin and apply scrub, polishing gently in a circular motion. Use on feet, arms, legs, elbows or anywhere you want smooth, glowing skin. Rinse with warm water and blot dry.

Lavender Foot Soak
1/2 c Epsom salt
4-5 drops lavender (or any) essential oil (can omit this for no scent)
--- Combine well and store in airtight container. Use by mixing into a tub of warm water. Soak feet for 15 minutes.

We did this at a friends house with about 6 ladies. She had 3 plastic tubs for the foot soak, so we did two groups. Half did the faces first (exfoliant and mask). The other group did the foot soak and then used the same tub of warm water to do the sugar scrub. We washed out the tubs and switched.

She made all the items in advance and stored them in plastic containers (first two in the fridge). I think the sugar scrub makes a lot, but you can keep in in the shower to use regularly.

Have a fun snow day. :upsidedow

I am planning an "almost sleepover" party for dd's 6th birthday in two weeks. I definitly want to do the pillowcase/fabric marker activity, but I'm not sure where I can buy cheaper white pillowcases. Any ideas on where to look/order from?:confused3

Target and Walmart were the only place I found cheap pillowcases around here. Nothing at Micheals.

My DD sleepover 9th party is in a few weeks. She wants and icecream cake (why? it is freezing here) and we are going to take the girls swimming (trying to make a theme here)

Plus I got pillowcases to decorate and Emma already made flip flops to give the girls.

We are going to make star and fish shaped pancakes for breakfast.:goodvibes

I am still looking for ideas besides little summer theme gifts for bingo game prizes.:confused3

We did make your own pizzas and make your own ice cream sundaes for DD7 b-day. The girls loved both activities. I love the pillowcase idea. DD7 will be turning 8 in couple weeks and I may use it.

One other thing that we've done that the kids really enjoyed was to bake the cake batter in ice cream cones, and then provide several different flavors of icing and other toppings, and they decorated their own cupcakes.

My kids' cupcakes were the ones with twice the amount of icing as everyone else! :rotfl: I've taught them so well. :lmao:

For my DD's 9th we had a camping themed party. I know it is cold where you are, but we camped indoors, set the tent up in the family room, made trail mix, decorated tshirts with camp names,

S'mores in the fire place, lanterns, ghost stories, and then a nature hike...which was just a walk around the neighborhood after dark.

We also made up a camp song and did sing alongs.

It was very silly, but the girls had fun.

They sell a cute pedicure kit at Target, comes with a bubble bath type thing with all the nail polishes, emory boards, stickers, etc. for under 19 dollars. I would have them make their own English muffin pizzas for dinner (English muffins/ sauce/ cheese/pepperoni's) that's cheap and fun. Do you or a friend have an indoor Smore maker? Those are always a huge hit with our kids for sleepovers. Have fun!

The year my daughter turned 11 she had a surprise birthday party, only the surprise was for the girls. We told the parents a few days in advance so they would be ready, went to their house around 6:30am, woke them up. We video taped it as we went from house to house so the last one we picked up could see what happened at the first house. I brought them back for breakfast, my wonderful husband made the waffles while my daughter and I did the pick up. Everyone came in their pj's. We had breakfast, played a game, twister I think, then the mom's picked them up around 10:00. Goodie bags were combs, toothbrushes/toothpaste and hair bands.

Fun, different and very inexpensive.

Thank you, these are great, and we have a lot of the ingredients! :hippie:

My DD is having a birthday soon and we are having a Webkinz sleepover. I am on a budget too, so every game/activity, etc. is going to be homemade. If she still likes Webkinz, I can share some more ideas. They will require some work though, which I am dreading, but because your daughter is old enough, she might like to prep some of it herself, my DD does!

I honestly have not themed the last slumber party for either of my girls (10 and 8). They seemed to have their own things they wanted to do. I just had an eating time and a calming down time with movies. During the inbetween times it went quickly and they did the Wii and karaoke. During movie/ settling down time I had a table set up with snacks by where they were sleeping. Worked great!
