I need advice...

DD(5) has been a military brat for the past three years and has adjusted surprisingly well. We moved to NY from FL in Dec/2002 and she didn't so much as peep about leaving our family behind (we have an extremly close family, my aunts are only 11 yrs older than me and all lived within 5 miles of us). Now, she has a best friend, Sam, who has lived next door to us for the entire time and since his dad is going to Afgahnistan this month, his mom decided to move back home. DD totally freaked out yesterday and is convinced she will never have any friends because of this. On top of this DH is leaving for Iraq in June making it doubly hard on her. We are visiting FL (&wdw) for the months of July & Aug., but I am not sure what to say or do to make DD happy about the situation. What should I do?

  Sorry, I have no good advice for you.

Maybe you and DD could make a scrapbook or memory album your DD could give to her friend. Something to focus on other than the fact that her friend is moving. She could do the same for her dad. I am sure he would cherish it.

Life is so full of little disappointments. I moved a lot as a child and left many good friends behind. I was a prolific letter-writer and really enjoyed keeping in touch with them that way.

Good luck and hugs to your DD.

Denae

This is so sad. I like the idea of a scrapbook. Do other mothers in your position have any advice to offer?
