DD had 106 fever last night!!!

Can you give the children Advil? I know for a fever over 100, it always worked for my kids... although I don't know what the current thinking is to be honest (and my kids aren't much older than yours)... we've been really lucky for years, no high fevers (thank god).... I do remember when DS had rotovirus at a year, we alternated with Advil/Tylenol & I wound up bringing him back like four times....

About the DVC points can you rent them or use your one time banking exception to bank them into next year?

Thanks so much for all your well wishes!!
I actually just got back alittle while ago because DD was starting to scare me. She can hardly walk and her fever was 105.1. So I had to take her out to go to the Dr. I just didn't feel right with this high fever. Then my little guy starts with this horid cough!! So the conclusion is DD definately has the flu and this high fever will last for a few days. She'll probably be out of it for a week. Dr. told me to keep her home, comfortable, and hydrated. Also tylenol for the fever.
DS just had this a week ago. His fever was 103 at 11am and by the time they took his temp at the doctors office 20 mins later it was 105.2! He was totally out of it!

Anyway, the reason we ended up at the doctors in the first place was that the ibuprofin alone wasn't keeping the temp down. He was running 102 and up when on a full dose of motrin! The doctor said to do a full dose of motrin and take his temp 3 hrs later. If the temp was over 101 then give a full dose of tylenol at that time. Take the temp 3 hrs later again and if still over 101 give a full dose of motrin. We actually had to get the liquid childrens motrin and liquid childrens tylenol because it turned out with the pills(DS is 10 and can swallow adult pills) when we gave him one adult motrin, we were actually giving him 50mgs less than what he needed. Point of the story, if one med wasn't cutting it, we were to go to a 6 hour dosing and alternate the other med at the 3 hr mark. By the second day we were back to only needing the motrin and then we were allowed to use it every 4 to 6 hours instead of a strict 6 hours when alternating. Sorry so long and complex but DS's fever was quite high too and the Dr was concerned. He said if we had any vomiting to go to the ER or if we had a sustained temp of 105 or higher to go to the ER. Obviously, we were to treat the fever with meds, room temp bath, cool cloth, etc but if it stayed at 105 or higher without us being able to bring it down, then it meant a trip to the ER.

We found a room temp to warmish bath really helped a lot with the fever. Try that with your dd.

By the way, if you use adult tylenol for children under 12, make sure its "regular" not "extra strength" as one extra strenth can be an overdose and hurt their livers

Thats really good advice because over 100 children DIE each year from accidental overdose Tylenol poisoning. (from journal of american pediatric association)

Another reason why my Ped (and many) stick to childrens advil or childrens motrin.

This is really great advise, this is what we did for DS when he was so sick (so thanks for posting), I wasn't sure if this was the most recent thinking, so glad to hear that it is.... I always found the motrin to be much more effective when the kids' fevers were more than 100...

Thanks so much for great advice! DD is now in the bath. She threw up from the medicine. Poor thing is tired of taking it. Her fever is still around, but not as high as 105. At first we were giving her the motrin. It was doing nothing for the really high fever. The tylonol seems to be helping her now. It's strange because thr tylonol never really does much for either of my kids. I usually only give them motrin. This time it is the opposite!

Wow! I didn't know it could cause death! Thanks for posting that.

My doctor gave us the OK to use adult strenth advil/motrin/ibuprofin or tylenol(reg, not extra strength) for DS last year or we wouldn't have been doing it. DS can swallow pills so this was an easier route. He said to only give one pill though. Then, when his fever was so high, they pulled out the weight chart and told me at his weight, the 200mg ibuprofin was actually 50mgs less than what he needed and told us to go get the liquid childrens kind so we could give him an exact
dose and hopefully get that fever down quicker. DS hates the liquid but alternating that and the liquid tylenol did help a lot.

This is true of us too, we use advil/motrin/ibuprofin almost exclusively because it generally works better but with this flu, the tylenol was more effective....I agree, it's strange, but hey, whatever works!
