DH had to take DD(8yo) to the hospital last night. She was sick all day with fever and a cough. Well the fever shot up to 106!!! I had to stay home with our DS and I thought they wouldn't be long and it was probably strep or something. Well they ran blood tests, urine tests. I was home and I was a nervous wreck! Turns out she has a really bad case of the flu. Poor kid is so out of it. Now my little guy is starting with the cough. I really hope he doesn't get what she has. Now to top it off, DH is working so I'm here alone. I had errands that had to be done today, but the kicker is I am suppose to be having an open house tomorrow because our house is for sale. Our realtor already paid for all the ads. Even if we cancel, people will still show up. I don't know what to do. I can't take DD out of this house and all my family is 30+ min. away.
Sorry I just needed to vent!

Oh no!! I have no advice, but I sure hope she feels better soon.

Many hugs to you!!

Does your DD have a TV in her room? If she doesn't, I would put one in there tomorrow and just have her stay in her room with the door shut during the open house. If anyone is really interested in your home, they can schedule a time with you to come back and see her room when she's feeling better.

Good luck and God Bless!!!

Oh man, kids can run scary high fevers for such minor reasons, can't they? Glad it turned out to be just the flu. Just keep her drinking and wait for it to pass(we had flu at our house this week too.)

I don't think I would hold the open house. Call your realtor now. Your house is full of flu germs and your child is too sick to take her out. Make a neat sign and put it on the door explaining the situation. If people ring the doorbell, just explain that the open house has been rescheduled due to illness. :grouphug:

I feel for u! That happened to my 3 yr old and she started to hallucinate. i was so scared! She thought that there was a cat in the car and began screaming when "he jump in her lap".

I would suggest going to a hotel, but I'm guessing your open house is around lunch time and the hotel would want you out of there. Maybe bundle everyone up and go for a ride.

Most germs are airborne, so I'd put her in a nice warm room, then open the other windows briefly throughout the house and air it out. I do this off and on all winter to keep it fresh; it seems to help us stay healthy. (plus, I hate lingering cooking odors in the winter, eww)

Then I agree with others, bundle her up and go for a ride. But don't bundle TOO warmly as that can have an adverse effect. And hopefully by tomorrow, she'll be feeling much better. Keep the ibuprofen (childrens Advil) going and hang in there!

I'm so sorry for you. The Flu can be so nasty. My kids both had it, one after the other, when they were younger. High fever for about 6 days. Both got bad ear infections from it too. My DH and I got the shot that year and avoided it. Every since that ordeal our Ped has given the kids the shot! It was truly the worst thing they ever had. Could not eat, even walking to the bathroom was an ordeal.

You really may want to try and reschedule the Open house as the germs are all over the place and your little one is not up to leaving. Did the Dr. mention starting the rest of the family on Tamiflu?? It can help you avoid the flu or make it milder. Good luck.

I am so sorry. DD just got over the flu. Now here I am with a bad cold. Never ending cycle. :confused3

:grouphug: to your dd and rest of your family That is scary for a temp that high. Hope she can break the fever soon! I have learned from my dd and ds's ped that high temps(104, 105 and above) is mostly viral (flu type), instead of bacterial like Strep. You would think the high fever is more bacterial, but for kids, it's the viral stuff that causes the higher fever, as well as dehydration brings up the fever. Hope she can keep hydrated as well.
Prayer and PD pixiedust: for your dd and you.
As of the open house, your realtor just will have to cancel. Tell them house is in quarantine this weekend due to very sick child. I'm sure realtor and prospective buyers will understand, at least they should understand.

WOW--106 is SCARY!! My DS starts having seizures around 105. I'm glad that its the flu and not somthing worse (although the flu can be miserable too!!) and hope she feels better soon!

Is she on Tamiflu (I believe they make a dosage for children)? I swear by this medication - I came down with the flu on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and went to the doctor. Took Wednesday to begin recovery and was cooking lunch for 15 by Thursday morning. One day on this medication can make a huge difference. Also, I believe that once you are fever-free you are no longer contagious.

Good Luck!

Also, after getting the flu twice - I can speak from experience - cancel your open house if she's still feeling crappy. Flu 'crappy' so so much worse then cold 'crappy'. Or like someone posted before - eliminate her room in the showing. Take photos of it if you want to show it.

If she is too sick to move, then I would cancel. The real estate agent will understand, and if he/she doesn't - too bad. If you feel you can move her, then I'd consider a hotel room for the day or go by your family (if they'll let you in!). I know when my child is sick, I'm too busy tending to them let alone getting a house ready for an open house. In an open house, the house needs to be perfect - staged so that it looks like no one really lives there (if you know what I mean). This is a huge amount of work to pull together. Unless the sale of the house situation is dire, I would consider rescheduling. Good luck!

I am so sorry DD is that sick....106 is very scary! Hope she starts feeling better soon
Good luck with your realtor, hopefully she realizes how sick your DD is and allows it to be cancelled.
We had our house listed for sale and my oldest DS was very sick with the flu, the realtor phoned and said someone was very interested in our home and she needed to show it. I told her our DS was very sick and since it was winter, not only did I not want to take him out, I had no where I could take him.
She simply said well this is an excellent oppurtunity for her to sell so we had to get out of the house,"drive around if you have to" she told me!! Dumb me...I did what she said.
As it turned out the "very serious" people were one of the owners of the house we were hoping to buy if we sold ours and her friend ---they were just snooping to see what our house looked like to see if it would sell fast!
I was furious because its a very small town so the realtor knew the entire time what was going on---poor DS, he was so sick to his stomach----I had to drive around in the vehicle with him for 1/2 an hour.
When I found out who had looked at our house and that poor DS had to go through what he did for absolutely nothing--I tore a strip off our heartless agent and we ended up taking our house off the market!
I am sure you will have an agent who will be understanding--good luck, let us know how everything goes!

Thanks so much for all your well wishes!!
I actually just got back alittle while ago because DD was starting to scare me. She can hardly walk and her fever was 105.1. So I had to take her out to go to the Dr. I just didn't feel right with this high fever. Then my little guy starts with this horid cough!! So the conclusion is DD definately has the flu and this high fever will last for a few days. She'll probably be out of it for a week. Dr. told me to keep her home, comfortable, and hydrated. Also tylenol for the fever. Now, DD has no school on Mon, but does the rest of the week. No way will she be 100% by Tues. She has already missed too many days because of our car accident. We also had or trip to WDW in May booked and we are DVC'ers and those points have to be used by May 31 because they are from our trip we had to cancel in Nov, also due to our car accident. Now I'm stressing because she can't miss anymore school. Do I cancel this trip again? I'm really not having a good day. I try to take the kids to the Dr. I get in the car, no gas, no washer fluid. I get gas, forget to get money, and washer fluid, rush to Dr. then find out that DS now also has the flu! Luckily my mom met me and stood in the car with the kids so I can get more meds, guess what I forget? The washer fluid. Mom had already left so I had to go to some gas station and pay $4 for washer fluid!!! Then, it's a new car so I couldn't find the hood release!! I had to get out the car book while DD is complaining she's sick, DS is coughing up a lung!!! In the car book I couldn't kind anything. Finally I found it. I was stressing big time. I got screaming, and complaining from my kids, lolipops stuck to seats. Calgon take me away!!!!

One good thing is that our realtor totally understood and is cancelling the open house. She even offered to come by and help with anything I need because she knows DH is working and I have no family near by. I feel bad because I know she pays for the advertising. Anyway, I'll just leave a note on the door in case people try to come.

Now my real concern is keeping these kids hydrated. Especially DS. The Dr told me if he starts vomiting, go to the ER immediately. He is already under weight due to all his issue in the past. :worried:

Thanks for listening!!!

 So sorry you are having such a tough time! How about ordering yourself some chinese delivery and taking it very easy. You deserve it!

It sounds like your realtor came through for you. Can she maybe run by the store and get some popsicles for your DS, (unless your DH can get them on the way home from work)? My DS had the flu with a high fever a month ago, and he bounced right back after a few days. It kind of turned into a pseudo cold/cough after a while. There's nothing worse than trying to show your house! I know, since we've done it so many times, and may be in that boat again here in a few months! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
