DCL on ABC TONITE

I have to agree with you tvguy...after the show ended I turned to my DH and said "That show cannot possibly last"...he said it has been on the air three years. I don't understand that one...the cast doesn't even go together, the characters are not likeable, and the plot was ridiculous. They should have just done a story line where the family won a cruise on DCL. I was also disappointed because I expected (unreasonably) that the Magic and DCL would be the star, not the pesky characters.

How cute, that made me chuckle!!!

you make us all chuckle sometime Andy = LOL

I second the opinion of the show. While the setting was cool, the story and production were awful. All I could think about was Eisner's comments about how comedy was going to bring ABC back, that comedy would be the backbone. If that's comedy, all I'm going to watch is sports and news. -- Oh yeah, that's all I watch now.

I had been looking forward to this show for a month. How disappointing!!!!! I would have been happier to just see thirty minutes worth of shots of the Magic without the dumb characters.

Thank goodness, I thought the entire show was very cheezy, and I like the show!! Something is up with Disney Marketing, with all that is going on, I watched most of the shows last night, there were Disney references in all of them. Enough is enough, I know they are trying to keep the disney name out there, but even the local news is raffeling off a Disney cruise, The cute show after this one, even mentioned It's a Small World with referenes to it. Another one mentioned the little mermaid, not sure which one. Is Disney in that much trouble!!

Yes the cruise director was Rachel, she was the CD on our
12-27-03 Eastern trip. Her voice gets like fingernails on a blackboard after 7 days, especially when she screams.

I don't think that was Rachel. Rachel was the cruise director on our October, 2003, cruise and looked and sounded totally different than the person on the show. Rachel has an cool accent (British? Australian?) and we never once her heard scream on our cruise.

I liked Jim's Buzz Lightyear notebook that he used to track the sister's expenses.

We watch the show, some are funnier than others. I liked the one where Jim and Andy were in charge of the girls' slumber party.

This was not one of their better storylines....BUT....bit got them on the Disney Cruise and I loved seeing the ship even if it wasn't for as long as I had hoped!

I have read on some other posts and it looked like to me Cara which is the cruise director on the Magic

I'm a loyal watcher of the show and have to admit that the plot of this particular episode was terrible. Nothing seemed to be working together and it was very much unlike their normal episodes. Very poor representation of their usual comedic situations.

I really enjoyed seeing the different parts of the ship, though, as many of you have.

Do they actually announce your names when you board? I thought that was a nice touch.

Yes they announce your names and where you live. It is very nice. There are usually four or five CM there to clap for you. I am glad I am not the only one who picked up on the sunset at Castaway Cay reference.

That's it!! Cara. She was our cruise director on the Wonder during the pin cruise in November (16-20). That was her.

To be fair, it always seems rather forced when sitcoms go "on location"--think of the Brady Bunch in Hawaii! Someone comes up with an idea and the plot has to be worked around that idea. I was still pretty excited though, since we went on the Wonder before, just seeing the Magic atrium was a rush for me. Looks like next week they stroll on the deck and go to Palo and CC--from what posters said about the cruise, they may have filmed in Cozumel too.
Key West looked cool--I've never been and was thinking it was like St. Maarten when I went there in 88--very commercial and crowded--I was surprised it didn't look like that at all. they even walked by Kinos, where I am bound and determined to buy sandals.

Dizney Dogs: are you on the September 25, 2004 sailing--you count down looks like mine and that's when we're sailing??

Sorry - didn't realize the baby isn't usually part of the plot as I've never watched the show before. And quite frankly except for being back on the cruise next week probably won't again.

Flat acting all the way around IMHO. :p

Rachel was the Cruise Director on the 12-27-03 Magic Eastern trip we took, yes she had an English type accent, which is what I thought I heard last night, and it sure looked like Rachel all 3 seconds she was on the screen, but it's not important.
other boo boos, the cabin door was wood, and didn't have the room number on it, the bathroom was in the wrong place, and it wasn't a split bathroom, so it was definately a re-creation on a sound stage, close, but no cigar if you've been on the Magic.
As my log on name implies, I work in TV, as does my wife, CBS station for me, NBC for wife. My station used to be ABC. I did put in a dig about ABC, but frankly, in my opinion, all three networks and Fox really need to improve their programing. Thank god for Dish Network and 166 channels.

Our family was on the "Jim" cruise and I thought I would share a few of my observations about some things people were wondering about.

The scene in the atrium of the family "boarding" the ship was actually filmed on one of our "at sea" days (Monday I think). That's why the regular doors weren't open and the people were in a line that actually leads to the shore excursion desk!

Rachael WAS our actual cruise director that week, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't her announcing the names. Rachael's hair is longer and she has a very strong accent, so I'm not sure who it was.

The filming in Key West took place during the day, which was nice and sunny. But then a big wall of rain moved in late in the afternoon and I think that's why the scene of the family walking past the sandal shop was so dark. It was either just before or probably after the rain, which I think came through around 5:00. I talked to the wife of a crew member (on a tender boat at Grand Cayman) and she said her husband got soaked. Maybe they had to dry everyone off and it got late. You could tell the rain was coming, so we headed back to the ship. I'm sure they didn't have it planned that way. My daughter and I watched a little of the filming (of Jim riding up on a scooter) and it took forever. After about 1/2 hour we decided to go shopping and enjoy the day instead of watching them stand around and do scenes over and over!

Cozumel & Grand Cayman - they didn't do any filming there (again, I talked to the wife of a crew member and she said they would only be filming at Key West and Castaway because it was too difficult in foreign countries because of regulations, etc.). They filmed some "Mexican" scenes while we were actually at Grand Cayman. There's some sort of stage show by the Goofy Pool where they are pretending they are in Cozumel, I think. When I came back from our Stingray excursion, I noticed some tall, inflated red and green peppers on the stage. Strange!
When we really were in Cozumel, they filmed scenes by the Mickey pool with the kids. I was at Chanknaab and shopping, so I didn't see any filming, but that's where they were set up.

The cast and crew had Thursday off (our last day at sea"). I overheard a conversation with the guy who plays Andy and a crew member - they were going over the schedule and were talking about "promo" shots. Those must have been the "Love Boat" shots for the commercials and were not part of the plot (Thank goodness!).

Castaway filming - we were at the far end of the family beach and saw them filming out at the Heads Up bar most of the day. By the time they were finished, the sun was casting long shadows (I know by the photos of my kids on the beach) but it's definitely not a sunset. I could tell from the beach that the characters Cheryl (in a red dress) and the new husband (Jax) were doing the kissing scene with the Magic in the background.

Something strange - I was walking around and I saw a woman dressed the same and wearing a "Cheryl" wig and tall shoes, but it wasn't her. I thought "does she really have a stand in?" Well, I realize now that it's part of the plot and if you really want to know who it is, go to the abc website and look at the photos. I don't want to give it away, but I don't think Jim has anything to worry about regarding the "kissing scene". I think Cheryl has found a way to work it all out!

I did watch "Jim and Cheryl" film a scene up on deck 10 by the adult pool where they are dressed up and appear to be discussing the trip and have a little argument and then kiss and make up. I'll bet that's end show's ending, but I'm just guessing.

A couple of other things I noticed were that the blue chairs on deck 4 are turned and lined up next to the wall as Jim and Cheryl are strolling by (in the previews for next week), and also there are no mirrors in the bathroom above the sink (so we don't see the camera I think!).

Oh well, I hope my memories are accurate and my speculation is just for fun. I must say I was disappointed in the show - maybe I was looking forward to it too much or maybe it took too long to get to the cruise, or maybe there were too many commercials, or maybe it just wasn't very good! Let's hope next week is better. I did see Jim dressed up in a Mexican outfit with a fake moustache which cracked me up (he was at the Internet Cafe at the time) so I'm hoping the show gets funnier! :earsgirl:
