DCL dropping pre Cruise testing.

not sure the testing really helped anymore. Just got off the Oct. 29 & Nov 6 cruises and like my last two cruises (April and September) I got sick again. both my groups are now filled with sick reports. April I ended up with covid, September the flu and now with a 14 day b2b, RSV appears to be my newest culprit. After my last 2 cruises, I made sure I got my omicron booster and flu shot, especially since it was a 14 day cruise. I guess that worked, but nothing I could do about RSV. The Nov 6th cruise was filled with flu, covid and other respiratory illness according to all the posts in our group. Unfortunately for me, after 9 days, I’m now on antibiotics for a respiratory infection and bronchitis . I just finished my 7th cruise since the after covid restart in august 2021. (30th Disney cruise overall). So sick (literally) of getting sick. Going to take a break from cruising now. Also, we noticed, especially on the November cruise, with 3500 guest, there was no protocols at all. People walked into cabanas and bypassed hand washing, passed on the hand wipes and you never see anyone wiping anything down anymore. Btw, the Nov 6 cruise had 1000 kids onboard! Keep in mind, every cruise I got sick on had the pre-testing required.

When I took my daughter to the doctor's office for her last Covid vaccine in October, I was worried about where the latest vaccine was going to be written. As many have encountered, one card is full. The medical assistant re-wrote all the vaccines my daughter had to date on a new card and wrote in the one she just received. Not even aware of all the problems some people were having with their vaccine cards and safe passage, I took one look at this card and knew it would be a problem. All the vaccines in her handwriting on one card. Come on. Thank goodness she gave me back the old one and then got a new card with recent vaccine. My husband and I had ours done at Walgreens and they just gave us more cards too.
Absolutely this. This is just bad practice by the Walgreens/CVS etc. employees. You don’t “rewrite” vaccination records, ever, in any country. Instead you get an additional sheet/card, and amend. You add to, NEVER rewrite medical records.

Was on same cruise, and others DCL pre-and post restart and agree. We love it obviously, but there is just so much sickness on board, and it will further increase over the next months I’m sure. Regardless, one thing they need to get back to is the Cabanas hand sanitizing wipes (I remember when the cast members would run after people and force the wipe onto them, years before Covid). I will say that on our last cruise, so many kids were sick and coughing right from the beginning. On the cruise earlier this year where (vaccination was required 5+, and) ALL passengers were tested AT the port, we heard nobody sniffling or coughing until about day 3 or 4!!! Imo this likely made a difference for speed and volume of spread overall. (In addition to about a thousand LESS passengers!) I don’t know how the crew manages this level of respiratory illness exposure onboard.

To be fair all those illnessss are spreading everywhere right now.

They are, but a cruise ship, where everyone is constantly in close contact and RE-contact with the same people over and over, just increases your likelihood of exposure. Illness always thrives in any kind of situation where people are living in close proximity. It's basically amplified.

I agree, there were folks you wanted to go to the Heath unit, but feared going there because of all the sick people. its hard to avoid the sicknesses on the ship. It’s definitely going to get worse now that all testing has been eliminated. People really put their guard down On the ship. I don’t know how the crew does it. I do know deck 2 was only partially closed off for crew quarantining because we were assigned a room in the same hall that was part of crew quarantine quarters. The host told us the ship was so full they had to use deck 2 for guest now. At least we got more TV choices because we got crew TV choices. Note, I booked OGT and was assigned deck 2. According to our team, the crew no longer get tested. If they are sick, they test, but no longer required to do random testing. They said they use to test every 3 days. The tables are so close together in the dining room, it’s like others are sharing your table, especially enchanted garden. I carry my own hand sanitizer because you rarely see them onboard, and several were empty when I saw one.

If you are going to cruise during flu and cold season do it at your own risk. This is nothing new for this time of year.

That was the situation on our October cruise. Many in our online cruise group got sick, especially the kids. Mostly with RSV but a few adults got covid, and an elderly person got Influenza A. My child developed a cough on day 3 of our cruise, which turned into an ear infection upon return home. People should just stay home if they're sick but that will never happen.

Absolutely true. We cruised between Christmas and New Year's on the Magic one year when the big health concern was norovirus. So it doesn't matter if it is a cold, flu, RSV, Covid or Norovirus, this is a bad time of the year for all of them.

Yeah that’s why I’m just doing a 3 day this year. Can be off ship each day if we want. Not that it probably matters. Just a luck of the draw, cruise or anywhere really.

Gotta just try and have fun and roll with the punches if any

Is there any mask wearing? I wear a mask everywhere except when I eat or am outside. On my Alaska cruise there was lots of sickness but I avoided it.

Well, we’ve cruised regularly for the last decade, and whether you want to hear it or not, this year the respiratory illness season is here early and extra furious, much more so than many other seasons we’ve cruised. It is what it is.

The 2018 flu season was pretty bad. I think it’s too early to tell what this year will bring. A lot of how “bad“ it is will also depend on how much the media wants to hype it.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner. Not a denier here at all, but the media over the last few years has done a phenomenal job of trying to stoke the flames of fear from covid, flu season, impending nuclear holocaust, politics, and you name it. They want us to believe as R.E.M. sang, "It's the end of the world as we know it."

That’s just to throw people off so they don’t know what the real problems are.

Fully agree.

We saw maybe a dozen people out of 3,000 on the Fantasy wearing masks.

Got off the Fantasy yesterday and off the Wish the week before and probably saw less. Of the five cruises we've done this year, only the first cruise required that passengers wear masks but only in certain locations. So glad no more testing and no masks.
