DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

This may have been mentioned already, but is anyone noticing an increase in their marketing emails from the other cruiselines? Someone's marketing team is paying attention it would seem...
Not surprising. The companies partner with huge networks to pull key words and phrases from your browser and provide you with ads based on your interests. I'm sure we all have a lot of cruise line and travel-related ads right now.

Between the Characters, princesses, Star Wars, Marvel comic heros, etc...............they bring to the table something that no other cruise line can bring and they charge a premium for it.

But that's all they offer and it isn't worth an extra $2K when it comes to my vacation dollars. My kids loved our cruise last year and are looking forward to the one we have booked, but they are ready for more. My 12yo DS doesn't care about characters, pirate night or fireworks. He wants something with more adventure that other lines offer (rock walls, zip lines, waterslides, ice rinks....). My 10yo DD is still into the characters, but is a thrill seeker too.

I will admit, when I first cruised DCL I came away gulping the kool-aid. However, I moved to FL a year ago and I'm at WDW every two months. The novelty has worn off I guess. I still am a true Disney lover at heart, but I want more than what DCL is offering me right now.

i agree with Bree. its funny what you see once you open your eyes. i realized that i have seen the shows so many times we no longer go. we don't do character interactions, never have. no longer hits the crowds on pirate night. walk past the sail away party and just head to the top deck. while we still se beauty we no longer are awed by the mdr's. quick service offerings don't change a lot. whats left? what are we paying more for? what exactly is dcl giving us that we need to blindly open our wallets to them?
i know everyone is different and there are lots of reasons why people love dcl but my love affair is probably over. i know see flaws.

Still poor taste in my book. I'm not affected by this and don't feel like it is such a terrible thing that I need to stand up for it....

I agree with this. Especially considering that lots of the same people now complaining about this new policy are the same ones who have come on these boards and bragged about how they basically ignored the rules DCL previously had in place for alcohol carried onboard. For example, I can't count how many times I've read posts where people talk about how they mix their own drinks in their staterooms and then bring them up to the pool or to the shows, etc. Their logic was that DCL did nothing about it, so that means they didn't care. Well, they're doing something about it now.

There was no reason to Godwin this thread, guys. That's possibly the best way to get it ignored and have Disney pass us all off as wingnuts.

Except that I didn't *compare* anything to Hitler or Naziism. Godwin's Law regards a comparison of something to Naziism or Hitler, and I made no comparison whatsoever, even going so far as to make sure and say so. I used a famous quote that *happens* to be about that era in time but has relevance to many things in this world. The original subject of the quote does not negate the sentiments expressed therein, nor does it make it irrelevant as regards lesser situations than mass extermination of people.

I'd argue that there are *plenty* of wingnuts in this forum. I can name a few directly, as I'm sure others can. The sycophantic nature of many folks regarding their unvarnished adoration for all things Disney, regardless of any issues that arise, is enough to give room for pause.

To think that this page is the only forum in which people are expressing their discontent is myopic at best. Their Facebook (can I use that word?) page has *exploded* with negative responses to this situation. Disney may read this forum, but it's not the only place people express their discontent, nor is it even the most efficient. Much of this debate is just mental self-flagellation anyway. It is what it is, and they're going to make more money on the whole, which satisfies board members with no attachment to the company other than as a revenue source. It's suspicious that the rollout of the policy was very shortly after Disney's stock tanked, now to the tune of a more than 20% drop. Bottom lines and all that stuff.

I'm going to say it's a weak argument, though. The famous quote in question didn't just happen to occur in an era of time-it's bound to the events of that time. Quotes are always in context to people and events, which is why you get spanked so hard on a paper or a test or in an argument for using them out of context. Now, a quote can be used out of context in an ironic way, say, opening the refrigerator and stating, "I have a dream that the macaroni salad is still fresh!" I can totally get behind use of quotes for irony or humor. But certain quotes in history are kind of like exercising the nuclear option. We better have all our cultural, historical and literary ducks in a row before our fingers even touch the keyboard. I know I have stepped in this before. I tell ya, do not misquote Mother Teresa in mixed company or it gets ugly.

1. I am a wingnut.
2. I love discussing ideas and language with other smart people.
3. That whole macaroni salad thing was SOLID.
4. I know I am not bringing any Stoli Vanil on my upcoming cruise, so I look forward to their beverage plan.

This new policy change is crazy. I have to say I have ran into some really cool people while drinking on the ships. I can not justify the cost and poor selection of drinks on the ships to make it worth it. We are two cruises from being platinum. I cancelled our upcoming cruise on the Fantasy yesterday. RCCL is looking really nice! The last cruise we went on I went to the Gold and Platinum mingle. I was able to sit down with captain. He told me that the ships are not bringing in enough money. I find that hard to believe. I don't think their bars are going to fill up the way they think. I also know we have spent upwards of $20k on paintings and merchandise because of the alcohol we carried on the ship. They also need to think about who it is affecting too. The main reason we go to Nassau is too buy the rum we can't get here. Disney has deep pockets and I don't think they care what we think about their policy changes.

What were you thinking??? You should've consulted your Politically Correct guide. :P

So.......

Its fine to buy a DISNEY DRINK and bring it in to the show, but not your carried on liquor. GREAT LOGIC!!!!

I never brought hard alcohol on board, but did bring a case every trip. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME I CANT CARRY MY BOTTLE ON DECK OR IN A SHOW. If they did I would have started to pour the contents in a cup.

WANT TO BET DISNEY BANDS ALL ALCOHOL CARRY ON AT SOME POINT????

We are Platinum and I agree there is NO WAY the ships arent making enough money. We always go to the bar and order 1 or 2 drinks per night. THIS WILL NOT MAKE PEOPLE SPEND MORE ON THE SHIP!

The previous alcohol policy clearly stated that alcohol brought onboard was not for consumption in public areas or lounges. The exception was wine that could be brought to a dining room with a corkage fee. It's not about the bottle versus cup. Your beer or cooler shouldn't have been consumed outside of your stateroom/verandah.

The policy is written that you can no carry your brought on liquor and it is for in room consumption only. If no one ever told you you can't then that's on them but it is policy. They are dealing with hundreds of other rules as well so I imagine they've been looking over the no brought on alcohol outside your room for a long time simply because they are worried about other bigger issues.

Any thought by anyone about making this a trending topic on twitter? ‪#‎DCLprohibitiongate2015‬ is used on their facebook page- perhaps if it was carried on on twitter as well? I would like to see small bottles of mixed drinks to be included- not a beer or wine drinker.

Cast members don't care about the policy, only those beholden to stockmembers

is this really on twitter? If it starts trending like anything else there I can't wait to make fun of it. Love making jokes about the trending topics on twitter. though I don't think this one will be as catchy as the others
