The Disney Cruise Line Blog is reporting a change to the carry-on alcohol policy, effective September 30, 2015.

Story here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/201...alcohol-policy-corkage-fee-effective-9302015/

Most important info: "Each Guest 21 years and older may bring two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) or six beers (no larger than 12oz) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call."

Edit: Here's the updated policy on the official site:

At least they're letting us take 2 bottles of wine/champagne still, not completely taking the benefit away. :/
And now liquors and spirits are prohibited? I wonder if this stems from the FE gifts... not being able to control smaller bottled spirits given out.

All liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) are prohibited and will be stored until the completion of the cruise.

Not to mention the increase in corkage fee! $15 more than carnival. $10 more than NCL. Equal to RCCL.

Here is the contact information link.

Who will be the first to report back about the use of rum runners?!

Edit- Turns out RCCL isn't charging a corkage fee.

We'll see. Wonder if this is driven by abuse by customers, or just a new policy that will result in more income through more alcohol sales. Disney won't tell us the real reason, they rarely do, so we can speculate.

Easing the new policy in by allowing wine/champagne makes sense, but six beers? That's a strange one. In addition to the OP, the quoted blog also says "All liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) are prohibited and will be stored until the completion of the cruise"

Won't affect us much. I suppose some "won't sail on DCL" if this happens, others will say "other cruise lines have this policy."

Also wonder if this is true...haven't seen any other source for it yet. If so, it was nice while it lasted.

More likely it stems from DCL trying to generate more revenue. Those participating in FE and those giving out alcohol for an FE gift is an incredibly small amount of passengers.

Read more into it, you can bring a six pack per Adult at every port
See all is not lost...
....or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call.

My Beer card/Glass will be used more

I have never brought liquor with me and most likely never intend to, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lose out on some customers due to it. I know I have read some people saying that they don't mind the extra cost so much since they can bring their own alcohol on. Now, this will not make it as good of a deal for those people. I also don't think it is right to say you can bring wine or beer on but not liquor. If I ever were to bring alcohol on, that's what I would want to bring, as I don't like beer at all or wine that much.

Will this affect bringing bottled water or the like onboard too?

Good while it lasted. I am sure it's a combo of sales and abuse of the generous policy. Glad my cruise sails on the 12th!

When Disney got into the cruise business they were ridiculed and told they would fail by the major cruise lines because Disney ships did not have casinos. I have friends that work for Royal Caribbean who told me about how they used to joke internally about Disney getting into the cruise business with ships that don't have casinos and allow unlimited alcohol to be brought on board. It cannot be understated how much income these cruise lines make from the casinos and the on board alcohol sales resulting from "adult" activities such as the casinos. I always felt that the skyrocketing prices over the past few years had to have something to do with this possibly catching up to them. In my opinion this is bottom line driven. I have never, ever seen an abuse of the alcohol policy on board any Disney ship that I have taken. I think that people generally behave themselves, understanding the unwritten rule of don't take advantage of this generous policy.

Unless others have other experiences or know of specific incidents that have driven them to make this as a policy change, rather than a financial one, I think that this may be an a clear indication that this is money driven. This may be an indication that casinos or some form of organized gambling in adult only areas after hours on these ships may not be in the too distant future.

i have read rccl does not charge a corkage fee. i have to say the change to $25 sounds extreme.

disappointing. I used to buy a wine package and bring aboard a bottle of rum and a bottle of vodka. We would still spend a few hundred on adult beverages. We're not huge lushes but enjoyed the liberal policy. It will make us rethink our cruise line options since DCL is creating more and more rules and forgoing convenience.

and the more I think about this, it wouldn't be so bad if the corkage fee wasn't so high...
