DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

yeah people have to vent, I'm down with that, but in my view and I could be reading it wrong too, a few here to me seem to be trying to tell others who don't care to care. that's that only issue I have lol. I say complain to DCL all you want
marla, usually i think your right on but on this one, well, maybe not so much. no one has to care but they should. with each perk that is being taken away they are saying 'yeah, they bought it. now what can we look at to get rid of'. people should care about this stuff big time. it starts with upping costs for cabanas, taking away mickey mail, increasing costs at palo, early pool closing. the list goes on and on. none of that mattered to me but i knew that until everyone grouped together and cared enough about what was going on around them, not just to them, then it would continue so i have been behind every perk that was taken away. i'll be there to when the cost goes up for someones child in the nursery and when they cut the hours for the kids club. we all should be. i have no dog in those fights, not in this one either, but if i ignore this one then i can't expect support when my issue finally comes round.

take a look at history. anything good that happened took a group effort and it was always more than the group that was the centre of the situation that brought change about. we all needed to band together, we should still be banding together even though this does not affect some. something someday will.

Yep, I am frustrated that people don't care about the change in policy - not about the alcohol portion specifically, but it's one more thing Disney has taken away. It's the general apathy from Disney's fans about similar changes and reductions in service that allows Disney to continue to do this. I'm not sorry for thinking Disney fans should care about that.

Keep fighting the good fight! :thumbsup2

Some of us just to pick and choose our battles, there are benefits to strategy rather than a full blown attack.

Good you shouldn't be sorry about what you think, just I'm not sorry for not caring about little changes. I will admit I'm not a big big Disney fan. I love cruising DCL of course, and I like Disney, but I liked the friendships I made with people more. I'm more upset when I don't see friends I've made on the ships and that has happened lucky for me Facebook and e-mail are here

You're still thinking that this is about people pissed off that they can't drink. They can most certainly still drink!! They can drink at Disney bars, and at Disney dinner locations, and at Disney's pool, and at Castaway Cay...People who want to get ****faced (as you put it) can and will. What it's about is MONEY.

Now, let's say you are someone who likes the occasional drink on vacation. Let's say 2 drinks per day. That's totally reasonable, and certainly not enough to get anyone ****faced. At DCL prices, $10 per drink is not unreasonable. So, 2 drinks per day on a 7 day cruise comes to $280 per couple. Do you like Disney stealing $280 from you and your family? Because that's what they just did to those people who had already paid in full or made other nonrefundable plans. Even if you don't drink and were willing to GIVE that $280 to the Disney company of your own free will, can you not understand the unhappiness of other people who feel cheated out of their money? Do you have so much money that you could easily just take nearly $300 in cash and burn it for fun?
Well stated. Concise. Mature. I like it. Gives me warm fuzzes. 8/10.

you better hope someone is there when you do pick and choose your fight. whatever it is, whatever finally makes you say 'enough', your going to need a group of people saying 'yup, i agree, lets fight this' and you may not have it if you think everyone should only care about what affects them.
just a thought.

Let me put this another way for anyone who still thinks this is about getting drunk. And to Disney execs, which I will in yet another e-mail. Let's say that I am a football fan. My team (the Cowboys, I know, snicker) have made it to the Super Bowl again. So, I buy tickets. Expecting to see the Cowboys play. Well, the NFL commissioner comes down and says, oops, no can do for whatever reason, instead we are letting the Broncos play. Now, I still have my tickets, still get to go to the game, same seats, etc., but I am now not getting what I actually paid for. Just because someone probably retains the right to change things without notice does not make it right, and I would even go so far as to say unethical. Plus, flat out just poor customer service, guess this is another thing that DCL is "more in line with industry standard" than I used to think. If they had simply wanted to rip the band-aid off, they still could have announced BEFORE all PIF dates, or the start date could have been AFTER all current PIF dates. Then, I would not be nearly as upset. I would still care, but would say it was fair of what they were doing, allowing me a chance to change my mind. This did not. And I have yet to receive an offer of a full refund, refund of airfare and nonrefundable hotel room.
Nobody who really understands anything about household/family budgets thinks these concerns are specifically about alcohol. If they were, they would be all about maximizing one's budget for maximum alcohol consumption. Since no one is really saying anything about that, it's clear alcohol is just a service that was essentially free that will now cost hundreds of dollars for most cruises. The issue is money.

this thread is for sure going to make the dis unplugged top 10 list. i can see it going on for days and days. lol

gives disney some good reading though.

See we will never book a cabana, never did mickey mail, we usually only do Palo brunch and never eat out at home so for vacation meals are at least my treat, and I never go in the pools. went in the hot tub twice in 23 cruises. So that's some small stuff and stuff I'm not worrying about. I have many other things in life to worry about then things I don't do. As for the banning together If I have a dog in the fight for sure I would, but if I don't I'm not gonna, but that's just me I just don't have the time to deal with stuff that doesn't effect me. I will say I am banding together with you all I respect that you don't like changes going on and if you feel that way write DCL, by all means, hope it works out in the end for everyone who is effect though. I just don't support people telling me I should care, but makes me care less

people keep saying alcohol is free or was free. I saw this twice now. can someone tell me where they shop I always have to buy alcohol in stores. You all must be rich or I'm just like to save to much, because at times even 14 bucks for a bottle in shop rite is too much

Hahaha! Ok, I will keep that thought in mind. However this thread is about "DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015", not any of the "other policy changes". So to my point, I am staying on topic and I feel this is not something that affects me particularly, sorry if that displeases others....I can't make everyone happy nor can DCL apparently.

you have missed my entire point. i'm going to respect your response and move on. i just hope when you do find something that affects you, something that bothers you for what ever reason even if it has nothing to do with cruising, you will finally understand.
now, get me some more videos made! i enjoyed your last one and that was sooooo long ago. :flower3:

We'll vote with our wallets and our free positive PR campaign for DCL is over. We've organized groups of friends & families to travel together - many of whom booked
concierge rooms and were just getting ready to book another big expensive DCL cruise group. This change in policy has really limited HOW we desire our vacation to be - it's not so much about the alcohol but that we'd just like to drink the brand of wine/beer/liquor we want, on our veranda, and not have to leave the room to go get and pay for something that we think is bottom tier. The research has just begun for this upcoming trip and we've just crossed DCL off the top of the list. There are too many good alternatives out there that will bust their *sses to earn our dollars with fabulous customer service.

I meant the service of allowing guests to bring their own alcohol aboard was absorbed in the price of the cruise, meaning the sticker shock of cocktails and wine and beer could be lowered substantially by keeping drinks in one's stateroom. I can certainly use more words and extended phrases and drawn out sentences with dependent clauses for you if the former is insufficient. Bearing in mind that you actually, genuinely believed that I meant that alcoholic beverages cost no money at all, I suspect you are a quite literal thinker and unable to grasp the subtleties of written communication. Nevertheless, I can certainly explain further details should you require it.

every time the Nets lose it bothers me. Do you all banding together with me and start hating the Heat, Knicks, whatever team beats them? No prob not because it doesn't affect you guys, that affects me way more then this. I'm not gonna cry over this there have been times I've cried and complained when Nets lost :guilty:

as for videos. I have new ones online under marla07860 on youtube

that post was meant to be funny. But I did see a few others saw free. Not free on land or at sea. I wish though

A six pack or two bottles of wine per port is plenty. Honestly, if the entire cruise is made or broken on getting ****-faced for less, then people need to rethink their priorities.

Okay, nothing in life is free, but you're splitting hairs.

Personally, my wine preferences are cheaper than those you list, but let's take your example of a $14 bottle. If I'm going to drink that same wine through Disney, I'll pay a good $8 per glass. If we assume an average of 4.5 glasses per bottle, I will pay Disney $36 for my bottle of wine. So Disney just more than doubled my wine costs. Now that's WINE, which you can still bring on to a certain extent (so it's really a poor example). Let's look at hard liquor, which you can't bring on at all.

Your $14 is a bit cheap for hard liquor, so I'll more than double that and say you could easily pay $30 for some vodka you bring on yourself. Each bottle contains about 25 shots, so really, you could conceivably get 25 drinks out of it. However, I'll be conservative and say you either like 2 shots with your cocktails, or that you don't drink the whole darn bottle. That would give you about 13 drinks. Disney charges about $10 per mixed drink, so that's $130 for the same amount (allegedly, as many people here claim that DCL also waters down its drinks). That's a $100 difference.

Is any of this free? No, it's not. Because even when Disney did allow guests to save some money by bringing on their own alcohol it was worked into the greater costs for the trip in full.

It's just MATH people! We paid to have this option, Disney has taken it away, Disney has taken our money. I love Disney, but this is a terrible example of customer service. This doesn't even affect me much, because I'm a wine drinker and will probably be fine! But how can anyone PIF not be dismayed over this?! The monetary value of your bought and paid for trip has just been lessened. Even if you had no intention of taking advantage of this option, your perceived trip value has been lessened. Disney, whether you want to admit it or not, has just stolen from EVERYONE who paid in full.

I wouldn't sweat it, dude. I don't think formal rhetoric is big on this one's agenda. She's mentioned nets several times, however. Perhaps she catches crabs.
