We have booked for next summer. Any idea when Disney will announce shore excursions?? I wonder what they will be??

Ride a Moose

Tan your own caribou pelt

ect...

We are booked for Alaska also. I've been looking at RCL's to get an idea of what excursions may be offered.

The European excursions for this year were announced about 130-140 days before the first sailing. I'd be looking around the end of the year to the beginning of next year for them to be fully listed on DLC's website.

We are on the Alaska MV!!
On the Adventure's By Disney board a recent traveler did both the Med cruise and the ABD excursions. They said that the ABD add on's booked really well for the Med. I have done one ABD and it is worth every penny! The only excursion I really want to do is take helicopter flight and dog sledding so if they do offer ABD and that is on there I will be STOKED!

I want to do a Glacier walk in Juneau!

I haven't booked my Alaska cruise but am planning on booking soon! i just can't decide between May or August!!

Don't wait until DCL announces their excursions, but do your homework and learn about the Alaskan ports now. There are lots of Alaska guide books at your library. I recommend Frommer's Alaska by Charles Wohlforth and Alaska By Cruise Ship by Anne Vipond. The Alaska ports of call board at Cruise Critic will also be helpful: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

Helicopter glacier excursions are more likely to be cancelled in August than in May.

I agree with Nancy (Hi Nancy!!!)

My family went on an Alaska cruise with Princess (couldn't wait for Disney) and we booked all of our excursions independently. It was easy and cheaper than the cruiseline excursions. Met lots of folks on Tripadvisor and Cruisecritic who were on the same excursions.

Hi, Brenda! :)

I met Brenda on Cruise Critic, and later in person at the Denali Lakeview Inn in Healy (near Denali National Park) where we both stayed in August 2008. We also ran into each other at Homewood Suites in Anchorage.

Hey, DH and I were in Alaska in August, 2008, too! We traveled with Princess though so we were in the Princess lodges and Captain Cook in Anchorage. We are going again with DCL in August, 2011.

I was on the Coral Princess in June 2007, HAL Veendam in July 2008, Golden Princess in May 2009, and I'm going to Europe next week! :teeth: I'll be on a 14-night roundtrip on HAL Amsterdam from Seattle in August 2011. :woohoo:

Would this be because of fog or some other reason for August? We are going in August 2011 and this is one thing I would like to do up there.

I've read it's because the summer heat melts some of the ice - especially by late August. Fog will also ground a flight.

Thanks Nancy. I'll hope we can do it and plan a back-up in case we can't.

Thanks for the info! I will probably try for May then!

Any idea which month (May or August) is better to see baby animals and/or Orcas? Thanks!

Thank You so much for the info! I actually called some of the tour operators about 4 months ago and they do not start taking reservations until this Oct. If I can reserve the heli tour and dog sledding its my hope to have that in my back pocket so if the ABd thing does not work out we would be in good shape! Gonna check in the iBook Store to see if are any of the books you suggested are in their if not I will head to B&N!
