DCA Feels Different

I absolutely DCA. (hmm I got an idea for bumper sticker now!) :cool1: :lovestruc

I have only experienced DCA for the last two years that I have had my pass so I don’t know what it was like years ago but *in* those two years I already see this big change coming, I see the park :lovestruc improving a lot already. And Imho I totally think that DCA will be even better as a theme park after Cars land is in, not that I don’t’ think it’s a swell and exciting park already because for me it is. I just love the rides, the food etc! I also don’t think that DCA get’s much credit for the park that it is now,I hear a lot of “oh dca is not that great, it’s a small park ..etc etc” and I just think those comments are weak as that is just looking at the glass half full. But that is my take on DCA! :cloud9: :lovestruc

Who ever got together with who ever and thought of glowfest, man I just want to shake there hands and tell them they are smart for having that dream become a reality—because that has to be the funnest dance fest I have EVER been too!. :worship:

These comments come up so often. It's reputation is aweful. On another board somone started a thread to rank the US parks. Some of the people who in one place bash DCA wrote on the thread and said they had never been there. Plus people who went there when it opened don't relize that a lot has changed already.

Bugs land, TSMM, ToT, Monster's is a remodel of an original ride. These things alone changed the rides in the park for the young and old termendously.

People talk about all the walls, remember when one went 75% of the way around paradise bay? It's not there now.
But frankly those people that spoke so negatively about it, I don't care to stand in line next to them anyway.

i was not talking negativly about dca.. i was actually giving it credit even though i have no idea what it was like years before.. i only know in the last 2 years i have seen a big change and i love the park!!

The only changes I don't like is that they took the ears off the loop on Screaming. Also their plans to take down Boomer. It's fun and usually walk on for single riders. Besides what are they going to put in its place? It has a really small foorptint! If anything get rid of Zephyr... It be blocking the WOC views from the villas!

Ohh crazyduck, you are sooooo right! I agree with the zepyher!

And they are going to put like a picnic area or something in boomer’s place……

I love dca!
Just wanted you all to know that!! :cool1:
:dance3:

I understand tempted too. We all get tempted when at DLR. You can imagine how tempted I was to break into very un-Disney language and snap into a very un-Disney mood when an evil, spawn-of-satan child on my IASW Holiday boat last year decided to pick up two large handfuls of canal water and hurl them in my face. I had to go to a very zen place at that moment as I wiped up my glasses, my hair, my shirt, etc., and try to enjoy the ride. Let's just say...that devil child is lucky he didn't end up overboard.:rotfl2:

Sherry, glad you were able to control yourself. :rotfl2:

I've noticed that we've been spending a lot more time at DCA than we used to. I've always liked DCA (even that first year the park opened) but I've noticed that there have been several times recently that we've only gone to DCA and didn't go to DL at all.

Alright I'm going to chime in.

I agree DCA has made great improvements. I like Silly Symphony and was really impressed with WOC. The early pictures of Little Mermaid make it look like another win for DCA. The hope for another land in the form of Cars will be a big bonus. I am also pretty fond of the idea of the red car trolley. Great idea on their part.

I am not so fond of the new park entrance. Too much of a clone of Hollywood Studios. I am personally fond of the California letters so it will be sad to them torn down. WDW has stolen so many ideas of DL that I think its time to take one from them. Phillharmagic needs to be added and as much as I hate to see Muppets go its probably time for it. Tear down Mulholland Madness/Goofy's Flight School and give me something more unique.

One last gripe. What happened to the Victorian style games on the boardwalk? There are a few next to Toy Story Mania but then its Manhattan Beach and the others that don't have the same look. Am I wrong here? I always remember the Leave to Beaver episode of "Gus in the Net" where they ride the wooden rollercoaster. I always relate it to Belmont Park. I had heard of a Snow White mine cart ride in development. Would that be a good fit? Maybe not. Maybe thats the spot behind Frontierland that Al Lutz reports they are eyeing.

Anyways its exciting. I agree with Hyrdroguy that DCA has stepped up its game. Hope they come through with some good food options.

I was saying you were, my post was about you reflection on people who dislike it for unfounded reasons. That's all.

I hate to say it, so many people call it a half day park, but last trip I spent almost as much time in DCA as DL. That's saying a lot since DL was open 4 hours longer each day. I found plenty to do there all day.

yep there is soo much to do and see at DCA,

YES!! Maybe they can move that view blocker to where the Maliboomer was :)

We just made our first trip to DLR and I was surprised at how much we enjoyed DCA. Obviously only know it the way it is now but we really enjoyed the "little" Park. I hope we can get back in a couple of years to see the results of all the construction!

We finally went to DCA in sept '07 and fell madly in love with it. I have never felt an edgy or adult vibe to it, quite the opposite in fact. The music is fun and young (even if WE know the Beach Boys were baby boomers doesn't mean our kids don't appreciate the music), the High School Musical stuff might grate MY nerves but my son LOVES it (and, frankly, I'm starting to miss it myself!), there are some great, not-scary rides in there (apart from TOT) that DS loves or yearns to ride....

I'm sad if the feel that we loved so much is being watered down.
Not much is left of the edgy feel. I would say you can see it in the fact that alcohol is served in many places and with Glow Fest sold right on the street. And I am not sure something like Glow Fest - even ignoring the alcohol - would ever fit it in DL. California Screamin is a much more aggressive rollercoaster than anything at DL. And Maliboomer - while waiting for yesterland now - is a kind of thrill ride you also would not see at DL. Other than that the old, blaring rock music and X-games venue is completely or mostly gone.

IMO....DCA is finally becoming a theme park that fits next to DL.
We never liked the park from the time it opened. We never liked the "California" theme and the cardboard cutout entrance. We grew up there...just not that exciting. I always always felt it should be more like Disney Studios in WDW. Esconce and take you away to Disney feeling:cloud9:

now...as they have added many many attractions that are already at WDW....AND mostly they are completely copying the feel of the entrance at the Disney Studios...finally :thumbsup2 You know the Red Trolley idea was originally for WDW Disney Studios...there are tracks in the street going up to TOT....but the they didn't approve funding and it wasn't finished.

I think this new entrance will give the park a more warm/cozy feel. I also feel that the Carsland heights will block out more city view and esconce you more in the park. I am glad to see more Mickey touches adn Pixar...they needed these draws. This park need more truly inspired Disney touches all over the place.

goodbye mailboomer...stupid lame coaster park ride...sorry for those who liked it. next get rid of that stupid mouse coaster....These are NOT Disney rides..they are carnival rides.

I am glad to see them finally get away from the carny look and more of a TRUE disney themepark with more ambience, themeing, landscape, color, and fun.

YEAH for the changes !!!!! these are just my 2 cents. ;)

ps...if they would have built a Brown Derby restaurant I would have been in heavan:lovestruc

I am still hoping for a Sci-Fi Dine-in myself. :) Maybe in CarsLand?

I would really like that as well. It seems the other TS in the park if filling up alright and now Ariel's and WCT are maxing out from WoC dining. I follow a picture site that shows the carsland being built. They aren't moving any dirt where the drive in was going so, maybe, but maybe not. There is excavation and steel work going on for everything else.

Hopefully this summers numbers help carsland get built out all at once.

Glowfest would never fit into DL. Ever. It’s to “edgy”, it fits with the “carefree/energized” feeling that DCA gives (at least I feel that way when I walk in), and all the while I never rode Mali boomer I am glad to see it go.. if park guests want to be shot up in the air at a thousand feet and be able to see all of America and parts of Canada well Knott’s Berry Farm has a ride just like Mali boomer—it’s called supreme scream. :)

But at the same time I feel IMHO that California Screamin’ is the best roller coaster I HAVE ever gone on, hands down! It’s made to look like an old fashioned wood rollercoaster, and it’s very popular ride and it helps pull people into the park, but other then that, I am sure I am not the only one that rides it over and over again in one day! It’s a thrilling ride, and the designs of the tracks are awesome!

:yay:
