DC Restaurants

Heading to DC and looking for restaurant recommendations for The Old Town Alexandria area. We are staying there and I think maybe King Street has some places to eat.

Also, are there parking lots there or would we be better off in taxi?

Any recommendations for areas near the museums/mall/capitol would be great.

Most parking for Old Town will be street parking. There is a garage near the court house, but that's about it. A free trolley does run up and down King street.

I'd suggest - Southside 815. It is still considered "Old Town" but I'd suggest driving as it is kind of out there. http://www.southside815.com/ The 815 Biscuits are DELICIOUS!

My DC area knowledge is dated, but in Old Town Alexandria I remember liking Bugsy's Pizza and La Madeleine (especially for breakfast/brunch). Closer to the capitol, I really liked Jaleo (or any of the Jose Andres restaurants), Teaism (bento box lunches), and the restaurants in the Natioinal Gallery of Art, the Sculpture Garden, and the National Museum of the American Indian. There are lots more, but those come to mind first.

King St. is full of restaurants of all kinds. Among them are chains like Austin Grill and Bertucci's, and lots of non-chain pub type places and seafood restaurants. We like La Tasca, a tapas place. It's not cheap though. I believe there's a Brueggers Bagels and a Nando Peri Peri too.

I second the American Indian museum cafeteria. Not your run of the mill food court.

We enjoy Hard Times and Austin Grill. On the fancier side, Brabo and Joe Thiesmann's Restaurant were enjoyable (although Theismann's wasn't as fancy as I had thought). For quick and casual, DH and I discovered The Perfect Pita on our last trip and really enjoyed it.

Sorry, no info on parking lots. We've flown in and had family drive us around.
