Day to day reservation for next October?

We plan on making our first trip home next October (9th-19th).

Given that the 9th and 10th are on the Columbus Day weekend, is it worth our while to do a day-to-day reservation (at least for those two days)?

Or is an 11 month window from the 19th more than enough time to secure a reservation for a 1BR?

Also... what are the odds of being able to secure a reservation with a 7 month window for the same time at a different resort?

We were thinking of just staying at OKW because it would cost 34 points less. Given that we have never stayed in a DVC resort and have no point of reference, it would not matter where we stayed the first time.

Any thoughts?

If you want a 1 bedroom at your home resort, the 11 month window should be fine. If you want a 7 month ressie at OKW, I think you would be allright too.

Agree with Diane - If I were going at that time, I would only call day by day at the 11 month window if I wanted a Grand Villa(anywhere) or if I wanted a standard view or guaranteed boardwalk view at the BWV.

One call should be all you need to reserve your OKW 1 Bedroom villa - even at the 7 month window.

Best wishes -

Thanks-this is exactly what I was wondering too. Two more questions about that week-
1. Does anyone know what week is the Funai classic in 2005?
2. What are the chances of this being a week for the Food and Wine Festival?

The Funai Classic is Oct. 17-23. The F&W fest will almost certainly be going on then. If going for the F&W fest BW is an ideal place to stay.

I just wanted to let everyone know that alot of NY schools will have off 2 additional days for Yom Kippur the week of Columbus Day. I don't know if that might make it a little more difficult to get ressies. We're planning on going that week so DS will only miss 2 days of school.

Maybe I am being paranoid, but I have seen more than one post stating how busy DVC resorts are during the F&W fest. I'm going from 10/2-10/7, and I'm reserving day to day to get a 2BR standard at BWV. Called today and got 10/2, I'll be calling all week to be sure I get the rest of the days I need.

Unless you're too busy to call it can't hurt to do it one day at a time, and that way you're pretty much guaranteed to get what you want. I guess it's my personality, if I didn't do it this way I'd be anxious all week. I told the CM at MS that I plan to call day by day and she noted it on the ressie.

Having said all this, I do agree with the majority that if you're staying at OKW in a 1BR you're probably fine NOT reserving day by day. As was already said, it's the BW standard views and any of the Grand Villas that are the toughest to reserve.

Stimpy--I was originally going to go the columbus day/yom kippur week too, but then I realized the kids are off for 2 days for rosh hashonah the week of 10/2. I figured that week would be less crowded than the one with columbus day. And there is the extra bonus of a 3 day weekend (due to columbus day) to relax when we come home. By the way are you sure your school is closed for 2 days for Yom Kippur? Ours is only closed for one. :wave2:

Thanks for all the input.

We plan on flying to Orlando using frequent flyer miles and cannot reserve a flight until around the 22nd of November. Perhaps, it would be best just to make both reservations on the same day.

That weekend is also Canadian Thanksgiving and my wife wants to go then so my daughter will miss one less day of school and she'll use one less vacation day.

We are planning on going from a Sunday to Wednesday for 10 days. We may consider arriving on the Saturday and get a cash reservation at a value resort for one night to add an extra day to our vacation.

As for the Jewish holiday... is it on the Thursday/Friday (6th and 7th) or Tuesday/Wednesday (11th and 12th) of October?

October 3 and 4 are Rosh Hashonah

Yom Kippur is one day, October 13. I don't know why Stimpy's kids are off two days. Either they attend a Yeshiva that observes the holiday longer, or for some reason the school district Stimpy's kids attend gives two days off. Stimpy and I both live on Long Island, but that doesn't necessarily mean the holidays for our schools are the same. Even with public schools the schedules often differ from district to district.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes, you're probably right :) I always get the 2 Jewish Holidays mixed up. This was DS's first year in school, he just started Kindergarten. I may have to rearrange everything now LOL. I'll have to double check with the school. Yom Kippur threw me off this year since it was on a Saturday. Our school is a public one but we get different days off sometimes. For example, the kids get 1/2 day before Thanksgiving break and two half days after the break. Thanks for correcting me!

Columbus Day is on 10/10/05. :D

Is Rosh Hashanah holiday on Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday? Thanks!!

DH is not going to be happy now that I'm probably going to make him change his vacation LOL

I have to correct one thing I said. Rosh Hashonah starts sundown on October 3. But the holiday is actually celebrated (and Long Island schools are closed) on October 4 and 5 (Tues and Wednesday) in 2005. I just double checked.

Sorry if I led people to believe it was 10/3 and 10/4, it's definitely 10/4 and 10/5. Here's a link to a site that has the info so you can see for yourselves (now that I have confused everyone LOL)

Hope this all works out for you Stimpy! And let me know what you decide, if you're staying at BWV (although you seem to be a BCV, perhaps you'll be trying BW that trip) maybe we'll see each other around!

Shalom!

Thank you for the info!!! We're going to get ressies at our home BCV but we're going to try and switch to BWV at the 7 month mark. Will F&W be going on during that week? When does MNSSHP start? The original plan was to try to go to both and celebrate DS's birthday (10/14) during that Columbus week, but now I'm having second thoughts!

Hey that would be very cool if we end up at BW at the same time, being we are "neighbors" on Long Island too! By the way I am in Valley Stream, if you don't mind telling me I'm curious where you are.

If the dates for F&W and MNSSHP in 2005 are the same as this year they both will begin on 10/1. There's no guarantee of course, and they haven't announced the dates for next year yet as far as I know. F&W used to start later in October, but this year it started on the 1st, hopefully it will be going on when I am there next year (10/2-10/7) or my kids, especially my older daughter, will be VERY disappointed.

HTH!
