Thanks as always to DW for typing :
Checked in at the Manchester Virgin desk at 7.00am all well and dandy. Got the seats we had pre-booked (hoorah!) and off we go!!! Club seats are very spacious, but think the plane is looking a bit tired.
Okay, we're 90 minutes into the flight and the Captain calls for the Chief Stewardess 'Urgently'.....not good we thinks! After lots of headless chickens running up to the cockpit, Captain announces we have 'lost engine 4' Our hostess tells our section not to worry, it can fly on 2 engines, so we all carried on laughing nervously. Captain explains we can't get the altitude we need on 3 engines without burning too much fuel and being so close to home the best and safest decision is to turn back to Manchester ~ DOH! We have to circle the Irish sea dumping the fuel ~ sorry Ireland! and then we can land safely. We are met at the airport by several fire-engines just in case! We sat on the plane 2 hours while they tried to find a replacement but the 'spare' had flown out the day before 'to have new fridges fitted'
Those will prove to be pretty expensive fridges! We were put into hotels for the night, we were given 2 rooms at the Radisson. We were told messages will be sent to our rooms as to what would happen......................
