Day One:
Cast: Me, Kim, Disney Trip planning Fanatic
Mom, Phyllis, Retired from the Phone Company, few clues about Disney
Well, its the Monday after Thanksgiving and US Air says get to the airport 2 hours before the flight. Flight time is 9:15 am, so that means getting there by 7:15, that means leaving the house at 6:00, because I have no clue about traffic on the Parkway West at that hour. What do I know? I live in the eastern section of Pittsburgh and take the bus to work. So we are both awake before the alarm. I do a quick check on the flight on the computer and the weather sites and we are out of the house by 6:00. Get to the airport for curbside check in by 6:30. No traffic. Hand over the 2 checked bags and go park and catch the shuttle back to the terminal. Got back to the terminal by 6:45. HUGE security lines. Not unexpected. The line moves fast and we are on the subway to the airside by 7:10. Breakfast at McDonalds. We eat slowly and go the the gate about 8:15. They are already checking people in. We get in line. We still have the seats I reserved with customer service. Mom must have an aisle. We sit and wait. Tons of kids in the waiting area. Who'd've thunk it. OK, I can't yell at the annoying 3 year olds. They don't belong to our family. We don't have annoying 3 year olds any more. We have annoying 5, 8 and 11 year olds and they are at home with their mother, corrupting my dog. Back to the trip report.
The flight took off a 25 minutes late but only landed 8 minutes late. I knew they padded the flight times. Got to the baggage area and waiting for us was Hector from Tiffany Town Cars. He already knew which carousel the baggage would be on, so after he took Mom's carryon he directed her to wait by the door we would exit by and I went with him to get the checked bags. They must have been some of the first off the plane. Hector got the really big bag and I got the other one and off we went. He went to get the car once we were outside. A few minutes later Mom and I were in the back seat of a very comfy air conditioned car, on our way to the Yacht Club. Less than 1/2 an hour to get to the hotel. When we got there Hector said he would pick us up the next Monday at 3:00 pm. Cool. An hour later than I thought. When we got to the hotel, our room was ready. One of the bell people took the luggage and someone took us up to the concierge floor. Checked in quickly with Trever. She was really nice. Gave me our itinerary of our PS's. Everything was perfect. We got to the room, beautiful. We had the shared terrace that is over the front entrance driveway. Not a problem, and an added bonus to be discovered later. We unpack and head to the lounge for a snack type lunch. We have a 5:30 ps at the Cape May Buffet, don't want to eat too much. They had pastries, pretzels, chips, salsa, popcorn, fruit and drinks, water, lemonade, ice tea.
We then walked around Crescent Lake. We headed for the Boardwalk by way of the ESPN Club end. Checked out the restaurant menus and walked past the Swan and Dolphin. Then we walked to Epcot.
We saw Impressions De France. Beautiful photography and lovely music. Could have used a little more narration, and what narration there was, could have used less of a french accent. I'm not bad at understanding people with accents, but I missed a good part of the words. Walked back to the hotel for a little rest. We then went to dinner. FANTASTIC. Field greens for salad, not iceberg lettuce, tortellini salad with shrimp, marinated mushrooms, pasta salad, peel and eat shrimp, clams, mussels, ribs chicken, grilled sirloin tips with mushrooms. Great desserts. Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, chocolate mousse cups, flan, cheesecake. We were so stuffed. Too bad there was no time to go back during our trip. I will definately be back on the next trip.
We walked back into Epcot and saw the American Experienc and he Wonders of China. Both of them are Wonderful. We enjoyed the night life in the World showcase for a while and headed back to the room. We are both exhausted. Tomorrow, Animal Kingdom and Mickey's Christmas Party.
