Any suggestions for somewhere reasonable to stay and some place interesting to hit on our last day?

We've got a place to stay most of the time we're there when we head to Reno and Tahoe in a couple months, but haven't reserved a room for our last day before heading back to the Reno Tahoe Airport.

Any suggestions welcome, I've never been there - we'll be in Redwood territory for a while, and of course the casino area and may be doing a side trip to San Fran.... are there any other gems we shouldn't miss or a recommended place to stay that last night?

Thanks!

I live in Reno, so I may be able to help. ::yes::

First, when will you be here? We have a ton of local events that may interest you, but I need your dates to match up with. Are you planning on a Lake Tahoe stay during your trip? Tahoe is an amazing place and I highly recommend it as a must see. So that might me a good place to be your last night.

Give me details of when you will be here, what kind of travel you like (camping?5 star hotels?Pizza and beer?Or Fine dining? etc), etc and I will give you my suggestions. We pretty much have it ll in the region!

We went to Reno last year. We stayed at Harrah's in Reno. It was ok but nothing spectacular. We absolutely loved our day trip to Lake Tahoe (paddleboat excursion on the lake then drove around the lake with a stop off at the casinos.) It was beautiful & I would highly recommend it. However, I would only do it on a day when you are spending the night in the area. Don't try to do it on a day when you are looking to catch a flight. It is a really long drive and an accident on the highway can really cause delays!

As for the day you head off to the airport, I would highly recommend taking a drive to Virginia City. It is a beautiful drive and Virginia City was really interesting/fun. We even got to see wild horses on our drive there! DH and I didn't think we would really enjoy it but it was a real highlight of our trip.

Thanks for the replies... we're looking for somewhere to stay on June 23rd - and something to do if you know of something going on then!

Thanks!

That is the final day for the Reno Rodeo, which will make all of the rooms pretty expensive. I suggest checking out The Atlantis or Grand Sierra Resort in Reno or The Hyatt in Incline Village (North Lake Tahoe) or Mont Bleu in South Lake.

I wouldn't personally drive from So. Lake Tahoe to Reno on the day of my flight unless the flight out is late. But, if you stay in So. Lake Tahoe check out the Marriott Timberlodge. We paid $109 last June for a 1 BR. Studios were $99.

You could also think about the day at Lake Tahoe, then stay in Carson City and drive to Reno in the morning.

We have stayed on the cheap at Eldorado and Circus Circus (but always ask for the newest remodel they have).

I agree about Viginia City. Also, we enjoy visiting Bodie which is a bit of a ways out, but for history fans, fun. Enjoy!

Hm... Virginia City or Bodie sound like interesting prospects, I will be with a history buff. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll also check out those hotel recommendations, we just want something basic and cheap that last night, thanks for the heads up on the rodeo!

I am another vote for South Lake Tahoe and Virginia City. If you have a history buff, Virginia City would be a must see.
If you go to Tahoe, take one of the boats out as the middle of the lake is the deepest blue I've ever seen.

There is the Grand sierra near the Airport, kind of a neat place, they have a bowling alley, they have other things outside to do. They also have a driving range outside. We got a really nice room.

OK, I think Virginia City is a definite, and we have such a late flight, I'm considering staying there that last night. The Cobb Mansion B&B looks amazing, but very tempted by the haunted hotels in town too.... just a little wary of some of the reviews on cleanliness and mustiness. Any votes here one way or the other by people who have been there? Thanks one more time! :)

We didn't stay in Virginia City so I can't help with that other than to say that I would look at the reviews on TripAdvisor. Seems like there are a number of good places to try :)

I think you will enjoy Virginia City. Make sure to go to the museum at the begining of town. They have so much cool stuff in there to look at. Watch the videos in the one room.. They are short but very interesting (at least we thought so!) Also, make sure to go to the Bucket of Blood Saloon. Lots of fun and a great view from the back fo the saloon!
