The day has finally arrived! I call myself Gimpy because on 9/29 I dislocated my kneecap, although it wasn't as bad as it could have been, it still slowed me down quite a bit. So, at 4:15 AM Pacific time I crawl out of bed and my DH dutifully takes me to the airport to catch my 6:25 AM flight on Southwest Airlines. :o I of course am wanded because my knee brace has metal in it  - but then I slowly make my way down to the gate. I sit next to a great lady named Penny who happens to live in the same suburb my parents just bought a home in here in Oregon (my parents currently live in CA). We talked the entire leg from Portland to Kansas City :chat: and it sure made the time go by super fast. She also was a gimp as she was having knee replacement surgery soon, so the flight attendant called us two of a kind. I only had to sit on the plane during the layover- not change planes, and soon we were off again. Coming into Orlando I could see Universal and Seaworld, but not Disney. My mom, who had already been in Orlando for two days at a nursing conference, met me at baggage claim and I got my bag (it was the first off!) and we were off to her car. It was quite a hike to it cause she had to park far back in the garage, and it was humid and hot:sunny: ! We made it to the main gates and it hit us- we're really, REALLY here! After several set backs (I thought my husband was going to get activated with the military reserves, mom thought she had a brain tumor, my knee) we were on our girl's adventure of a lifetime! We made it up to the Contemporary and we finally got our turn at the check-in desk (check in seems to take a long time here- it did in our first trip here in March). We were staying via Shades of Green, so I had my military ID ready. I had called 3 days before and requested a room close to the building as I couldn't walk well. Our CM was deaf and could read lips, but not super well. It made things quite awkward and I think she was new on top of that because she messed up a few times and had to re-ask me my name & phone number three times. F-i-n-a-l-l-y she gave us our keys and we were off. Unfortunately our room was quite far- almost as far as you can get in the N.Garden Wing. Ugh. On the plus side our room had a fab view of Space Mountain and the fireworks. But it had a king bed and Mom really wanted her own bed. So, we requested a room change which we got the next night. (see more on this for day 2). We settled in a little bit and decided to head over for our Kona Cafe PS. Hardly anyone was there and it was about 6:40- I was surprised considering it seems so popular here on the boards. I was quite hungry- I had packed a turkey sandwich and an apple to eat on the plane, but that meal seemed a lifetime ago. I ordered a Kona sundown (yummy but not too powerful) and the Prime Rib. Mom ordered the shrimp and scallops. Our server, who was very sweet & efficient, brought us some sesame bread, which was like a foccacia bread, and a big cracker with pepper and other spices for starters. These were great! Our food came out lickity split (I mean under 10 minutes from when we ordered! Very efficient!!!:earseek: ) and we dug in. Everything was perfect- my meal came with smashed potatoes and julienned zucchini/carrots/peppers/mushrooms and was so good! Mom's came with a slaw that she also liked very much- not a mayonnaisey slaw, more of a vinagarette. We passed on dessert, although I was tempted by the KoKo puffs and we took the monorail back. It was Mickey's Halloween night, so we saw lots of people in fun costumes heading toward the MK. I noticed the two times it was MNSSHP, the inflated these HUGE pumpkins over the MK entrance archway to the TTC and they were deflated the rest of the time. We stopped by the Food and Fun Center and got a chocolate dipped Rice Krispie Treat to share for dessert, along with some chocolate dipped pretzels from BVG (the gift shop) and showered and got ready for bed. We did watch the fireworks from our room and it was the perfect ending to the first day of our trip.

:goodvibes

Day 2 includes our adventure to Mars, galavanting through Epcot and my thoughts on footwear and common etiquette while waiting for SpectroMagic to begin. :smooth:

Wonderful reviews ~ Thanx for sharing

Kona is really a nice undiscovered gem (except for us Disers who know how good it is). Sounds like a nice dinner to start out the girls trip!
